In games I load my super gaming profile in ATT and everything was fine. Now I start the game (or 3dmark or anything that uses 3dmode) and it resets to the default GPU/MEM! I was testing the new ATT (with fullscreen bench) and noticed that. First, I was thinking of bad ATT, but it did the same thing with the older version (with windowed bench). BTW don't use that new ATT - it gave me a lot of troubles. Now I started to believe that drivers are responsible. I uninstalled 6.4, and installed 6.3 mobility - works fine!I need AVIVO encoder and it works only with modded desktop drivers, so I installed 6.3 desktop with 6.4 converter - again works fine!

Did anybody try his/her ATT profiles with 6.4 drivers? If you have the same issue than that is bad. It means that the new drivers can reset OC tools to the default.![]()

Hrmm, haven't noticed this yet, because I just gave up on ATT ikovac.
Maybe it's true, but I don't see any real benefits of the new drivers so stick with 6.2 or 6.3.
I have yet to benchmark 6.4 on my new and fresh windows install.
I'm about to because I'm drunk and bored.
I'll let you know how I do with the 6.4's.
Oh yeah remember with every new driver release it seems Ati is moving away from driver tweaks to get higher 3dmark scores.

Hi guys. I started another thread here:
http://www.thegamebooks.com/ati-64-cannot-be-overclocked-in-games-with-att?-t190.html
The info so far:
Desktop modded drivers and ATT don't like each other in games. Overclocked settings are being reset to the default.
Mobility drivers with ATT work fine (overclocking and latencies). Games are great.
AVIVO converter works only with desktop modded drivers.
NHC can overclock desktop modded drivers up to 400/400 (in comparison to the ATT with latencies going up to 415/435)
So I have two options:
3100 3dmark05 with 415/435 and latencies set in ATT with mobility drivers.
or
2850 3dmark05 with NHC @ 400/400 without latencies. But with AVIVO converter happily working on my video files (DVD vobs).
Somehow I think I will choose the second option.
I don't have any problems with the speed or anything.Games are also fast at 400/400, but I just wonder if someone else experienced the same problem with desktop drivers and ATT?

Hey Ivan,
You are a experienced overclocker so this question to you:
Is clocking an X700 128 mb (351/297) to 372/330 safe? It gives me a great boost in Oblivion, around 5 fps more, soms even 8 fps more! That makes it very playable at 1280*800 with everything medium...
Thanks,
Charlie-Peru -
Hi Charlie,
Yes that is still very cool. I'd try 350/350 or even 350/370. Keep memory a bit faster than gpu and you will get much better results. 400/400 is my top recommended speed without latencies.
Cheers,
Ivan -
Ivan you're only getting 2850 with those settings???? I thought you surpassed 3000 with those settings.
I'm at 29xx with 378/366 core/mem. Very strange, maybe has to do with software/driver installation issues and margin of error.
Oh and I think I have a faster cpu than you. You really should create a sig with your notebook specs in it Ivan.
-
Hi Mike,
Check the first post.My sig is there.
Yes, 5.13 gave me more I think. It can be CPU. 2GB RAM gives me up to 100 3dmark less than 1GB. So there could be another thing.
But that is not the problem - the problem is that desktop modded drivers with AVIVO converter cannot be overclocked in ATT. Can you confirm that? If you follow the link I gave - there is also one guy who has the same problem.
Cheers,

I just installed the Mobility 6.4's - I can't overclock at all. As soon as I put my usual setting on, my system froze and I had to do a full restart. Getting rid of them ASAP and going to give the desktop drivers a go to see if they are any different.

Update - installed the desktop Catalyst 6.4 drivers using the mobility modder. I overclocked my card fine, and the clocks are maintained in 3D games.

Ikovac...what made you give up on the new ATT? It's been pretty good for me.
BTW I finally set my latenciesalthough I'm still not sure what to do with TRFC (increase or decrease). See my thread if you wanna help out I don't wanna go offtopic here.

Update with the 6.4 desktop drivers installed - I was playing games fine for a few days, now today none of them will launch. I tried them with the standard clocks and overclocked, just goes to launch the game and a black screen stays there. So, I un/reinstalled them, same thing. Odd.
D/loaded the Omeag 6.3's today, and they are much better. I'll be sticking with those.

Chazman, very strange, I'm having similar problems. Not similar for using ATT since I don't, but since I installed the 6.4s I haven't been able to overclock my x700 to the same levels as my previous one since my motherboard was replaced.
I thought my core was okay at 380 like my last one, but since using the artifact tester in Ati Tool, not ATT, I can't get it past 360ish. My memory can't go past 366 either.
I would get black screens as well or the whole screen would go all psychadelic on me with a billion colored squares and rectangles.
I'm going to try the 6.3s and see what happens.
Just food for thought since sometimes new drivers CAN hamper overclocks, like they did with older Nvidia cards, so I dunno maybe it could be the same with Ati cards, but I never noticed anything like that with my old radeon 9500pro flashed to a 9700.
I will report back -
Hi guys,
sorry for a delay. I'm currently in England, visiting my old school. From what I can read, I realise 6.4 are not so good drivers afterall. Thanks for reporting back.
Flav cool - I was trying that new ATT with 6.4. Maybe that was the problem. I will give it another try.
Cheers,
Ivan -
I reinstalled 6.4's and they're actually just fine. I think all the problems people are reporting are just bad driver installations or just driver conflicts with other software issues.
I'm having no problems with these drivers now and realized that the culprit of all my worries is my new gpu.
Doooooh well. -
Hi Mike,
You are lucky then. In my opinion 6.4 are one of the trickiest.
BTW the newest ATT works fine. But not with 6.4. I am still on 6.3 - they are great. Avivo seems to work with Omega, but not with DH 6.4.
Cheers,
Ivan -
Really Ivan? Doesn't work with DH 6.4?
I'll have to check that out once I get my notebook back.
Yes it's back in the shop AGAIN~!!!!! Upon bootup to the windows logon screen I would get black artifacts all over the screen before things went normal.
When I tried going into sleep mode the screen would go nuts on me, as if I had set some bad memory latency settings in ATT and it would freeze.
I uninstalled ATT and NHC and everything was fine. Reinstalled NHC and it was still okay, so maybe it was ATT, but it wasn't even running. I reinstalled the newest version of NHC so maybe that was it, I don't know.
Even still that weird stuff at bootup and my high cpu and gpu temps caused me to send in my notebook for the FOURTH time, yes 4 times~!!!
Rawrrrrrrrr. -
hi mike,
DH 6.4 seems to work with Avivo. They must be based on the desktop modded version then.
Sorry to hear about the problems with the temps and boot. We'd say "third luck", but in your case it is already 4th luck. I hope everything turns out right this time.
Cheers,
Ivan
Ati 6.4 cannot be overclocked in games with ATT?
