And for those with download managers (like the best Free Download manager)
here is the most direct of all direct links:

Downloading the 6.3's now Ivan, thanks!
-
I did some tests - it seems they are fast like 6.2.
I got the same on default clocks 350/300 - 2270 3dmark05
But on the overclocked 409/424 it went up to 3050. That is a bit faster than before.
So far so good. FEAR works fine. Good benchmarks too.
Cheers, -
For the people who prefer the good old Control Panel. Check here:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atidriv.htm
Try it on your own risk.
Edit: Another Mobility 6.3 with control panel. I guess this is becoming more and more usual thing. Who needs the CCC anymore. CP here I come... This one is easier to get.http://www.ngohq.com/showthread.php?t=5448

i had a problem installing the 6.2's on my express 200m will it work with these?
-
Hi Anti-hero,
I don't know. There is no 200M on the list though. I'd try. No harm in trying. Set the restore point first.
Cheers, -
ikovac you beat me to it again~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was going to post this.Jerk face. Haha, j/k.
Great thing about the release of these drivers is that they also have a new encoder as well, for free~!!!
Can't wait to test it out.
Cheers,
Mike -
6.3??? Didn't 6.2 just come out weeks ago...?
-
-
Will wait for Omega 6.3
-
Hi Vidko,
Can you post 6.2 Omega 3dmark05 please. State your card and clocks. If I remember right you have x700? I used to use Omegas, and now i haven't used it for a long time, so I'm interested in the performance difference. If you have Omega 6.3 even better.
Thanks in advance, and cheers, -
Just in case someone missed that Control Panel post above - check it there is another link for another Control panel version... It is obviously very much in demand....
Cheers, -
I have a dv4000 from HP, and running ATI's tool on their site, its says not compatable. I have the x700 card. Can I still download and use this driver?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
You have to follow that direct link Ivan posted, can't go straight though. Only certain notebooks are 'approved' aka the manufacturers don't care - HP wants you to use their drivers, but it doesn't matter. Your card is fully compatible with the Mobility Catalyst drivers.
-
Cool, thanks for the help, I have already downloaded it, just waiting for the "ok"!! LOL
-
Remember people, if you can't install Catalyst Mobility drivers or normal Radeon Catalyst Drivers, download DHmodTool3 and it will let you install the Radeon Catalyst Drivers.
That's what I use. It does wonders.
The new set of drivers seem to be pretty much the same as the 6.2s with a few fixes and the new encoder is AWESOME.
So simple, not as fast as Ati claims, but maybe that's because I have the x700 and the increased encoding is only on the newer x1000's.
Cheers,
Mike -
will do ikova, first with Omega 6.2 and later with 6.3 too, when they arrive.
Regards, VidKo -
Which version is better, CCC or Control Panel? I have yet to use the CCC, so I'm not sure what is even different from the other version.
-
CCC is graphic intensive and a resource hog (but it improves with every new version). My money is still on the good old control panel.
Regards, VidKo -
****, anyone having problems with the 6.3's and Powerplay?
I am. It seems to work fine off a fresh install of the drivers, but after a restart Powerplay changes modes and there's only a "Plugged in" mode and a "Battery mode". Also Optimum power level is set and cannot be changed.
So I just reinstalled 6.2. Also the 6.3 encoder works with 6.2 so no need to install 6.3 if it's similar to 6.2 for those having problems with Powerplay.
Cheers,
Mike -
Hi Mike,
I didn't see that problem with powerplay. NHC must be set to Enable ATi powerplay if you have it! And I get the third low battery setting.
And about avivo encoder/converter. It is supposed to work with x1xx cards right? And you can install it and it works with x700 card?
I have a problem- I can install it, but I can never access the wizard - there is no wizard in Basic view or advanced. How did you install it? Or how do you start it? And yes when I install, it installs transcoder only, I have to start installation again to install encoder from "modify" option in setup wizard. I would like to try the thing.
Cheers, -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I think you have to install the CCC if you want to use the encoder thingy . . anyone confirm?
-
There's a wizard for the encoder in basic view of the 6.3 CCC. You may need to modify your installation of the "parental control yada-yada" to install the encoder - it appears that it's not installed by default.
- Ed -
Thanks guys, but unfortunately it doesn't help.
Let me clarify a bit:
1. Install 6.3 with CCC
2. Restart
3. Install encoder. There is no encoder in basic view.
4. I start encoder installation again - and then I realize that only transcoder is installed. I check encoder and install. Nothing in basic view.
5. I start encoder installation again and check parental control. It installs. And still nothing in the CCC basic view?
Now the only thing I can do is to completely remove drivers and encoder and start all over.
I'll see what happens.
Cheers, -
Have you tried installing CCC separately after getting the drivers installed (don't know if you had to modify them to get them installed)?
That would be the setup.exe in C:\ATI\SUPPORT\6-3_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_30895\ACE\ -
Hi Ed,
Yes I did all combinations. Now I wonder where did you get your encoder? I mean it was supposed to work with x1xx cards? And what card do you have? Where did you find Avivo converter 6.3? I downloaded from here:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1281
I still don't get it in basic wizard.
Strange...
Cheers, -
Mike, do you have modded normal catalyst 6.3 + encoder or you managed to do it on mobility version?
Cheers, -
ikovac,
I got the 6.3 desktop drivers and the encoder from the ATI site. I got mobilemod from http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=602
Installed the drivers with the usual failure, used mobilemod on the XP driver inf file, updated driver in the device manager using the modified inf file, went back and installed CCC and the encoder. Went into the control panel add/remove software for the encoder, modified the installation to add it. And that was it. Whew.
- Ed -
does it say something like "Abit 9600XT" in device manager for you, is that ok?
P.S is CCC necessary? because i tried to install it alone without the driver and the setup file wouldnt let me choose just the CCC without it automatically checking the display driver. -
I only mentioned the CCC update because of the encoder - appears to be the only way to access it. As far as the card identifier, something close is good enough. So if you have a 9600, the label you found above should be fine.
The 6.3 drivers seem really nice to me, though that's subjective.
- Ed -
I have a x1400 in the acer laptop not sure if thats ok?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Yes, the Catalyst 6.3 drivers will work fine with your ATI card.
Any recent mobile ATI card should work with those drivers. -
ok thanks, one more question i tried ati tt, but i get the motherboard not supported error, so i had to disable oc'ing, anyway I can get tray tools to work?
-
Whoa sorry I took so long to reply.
I use the normal Radeon Catalyst drivers and install them using DHmodtool3.
I just install the drivers, then when it asks to restart I say no and then install CCC manually in the ACE folder in the Ati main folder.
Then after I reboot I install the encoder and it works right off the bat without any reboots.
It is viewed only in CCC through the Basic View.
Very strange how you can't get it to work ikovac.
Maybe you have Ati Tray Tools in the background and it doesn't like it?
I still can't understand why I can't get Powerplay to work properly in 6.3.
I'm going to try it again, but I don't know if I should because I have everything working great right now.
After reinstalling a couple drivers and cleaning stuff out my baby is booting up really quickly and shutting down really quickly and no error messages upon boot.
Maybe I should just chill out and use it as is because I like the way my system is working now.
Also 6.3 encoder is working with my 6.2 drivers so I'm happy.
Cheers,
Mike -
Hey Mike, Ed, thanks!
I guess the solution for Encoder is in the MODDED DESKTOP CATALYST 6.3. I was using normal Ati Mobility Catalyst 6.3. Something must be disabled there. So I will download the desktop version and mod it with the DH tool. What do you think will CCC from Mobility ACE folder work? Or should I download the whole bunch again?
Another question - if you read carefully desktop version readme and mobility version readme - desktop version has like 2 or three times more fixes and optimizations. Now that worries me. Why mobility drivers don't follow?
And Mike maybe your powerplay issue with battery sliders is also in connection to the Desktop version? In mobility version everything works as usual.
Cheers, and thanks again.... -
ikovac,
Good luck, and let us know how it worked out.
- Ed -
I used desktop version and modded it and then installed the encoder and it worked fine using EdF's method.
-
ikovac you can just install CCC from the Ace file folder.
My problems are weird and I've never had that problem with Powerplay before. My 6.2s are doing just fine so I'm going to stick with it.
Cheers,
Mike -
There's no possibility to use Catalyst 6.3 on my system. Only the Acer drivers based on 6.1... -
Canaria,
Go back through the thread - there should be an outline of the procedure to follow. The error you see when installing is expected. There are two utilities that can be used to modify the INF file that will be on your disk when the installer fails. Then you manually install the driver, and go back to install CCC and the encoder.
Ed -
Ed,
I have tried both MobileMod & DH Modtool but couldn't install the drivers.
First I downloaded the Catalyst 6.3 (not the mobility), then I uninstalled CCC, ran Driver Cleaner, installed the Catalyst until the message "INF not found", ran MobileMod, manually tried to install the drivers, ran DH Modtool, same...
Now I have Omega drivers, based on Catalyst 6.2, waiting for Omega drivers based on Catalyst 6.3 or Catalyst 6.3 mobility supporting X1400 -
Hi Ed, Mike and others,
I finally made it! First I uninstalled and cleaned all of the mobility and CCC and encoder things. For some reason Ati uninstalation utility in Add/remove wanted me to uninstal Ati tray tools and my Sharkoon majestic drivers for USB 5.1 headset!
I canceled both and uninstalled ATI stuff only.
Installed desktop version Ati Catalyst 6.3 with a help of DHmodtool3.
Restarted
Installed desktop version CCC (separate file - different size than mobility version)
Restarted
Installed Encoder (also desktop only file)
Restarted
After a BSOD and another try of the Encoder installation, it works.
Above mentioned procedure worked for me after a few BSODS after the first attempt, restarts, cleanings and reinstallations. I don't know why, but it works now. I guess the old stuff from mobility drivers make this not so easy.
Encoder is good, but surely doesn't depend on the speed of the x700! Temperature isn't affected too. But it works. 1GB vob (MPEG2) can be encoded into 450 MB MPEG4 (divx) in 30 mins top.
It works with NHC and undervolted CPU in the background keeping the temp around 60! Otherwise it reaches 75-78.
And the weirdest thing:
If I start encoding - after a while my wireless dies.Windows stutter and most of the things are just so slow that cannot be used. Now I did a little trick:
http://www.thegamebooks.com/task-priority-t126.html
By changing the CLI.exe task priority I can easily use my Windows and the encoding time changes for a second or two. Everything works perfect now!
So - I don't know how about you guys, but I feel that this encoder is kind of tricky to install and produced BSODs in the process. I needed to go to the safe mode, clean everything and start again. It slows down the Windows if I don't change the task priority, it needs CCC to work (and we all know what that means).
But on the other hand, it works! It is much faster than any encoder I have (Divx Converter for example). DIVx converter needs 10 minutes to analyze and start encoding and then 2 hours to finish with the above mentioned test file.
Some numbers:
15MB vob file (from DVD - MPEG2) into MPEG 4 (divx compatible) - 25 s - 4MB file. 640x480@25fps and 1,2 mbps.
The same file into WMV at 0,7 MB/s and at 320x240 (also good for pocket pc) takes under 10 secs.
And I can watch it in TCPMP on my MDA PRO.
Ed and Mike, thanks again. I wouldn't even try it if Mike didn't say that encoder works fine...
And to all others: if you ever need to convert different video files into some other format (recompression) give this encoder a try. It is fast. Really.
Cheers, -
Congrats ikovac~!
For the DHmodtool3, it will ask you if you want to install drivers now after you've run it. You don't run the original setup file from Ati after running DHmodtool3.
If it's not asking you if you want to install it now then you're doing something wrong or there's some kind of problem with it.
Cheers,
Mike
Edit:: I wonder if someone can get the Ati 6.3 Encoder to work with an Nvidia videocard. Hrmm, Flaxx you there? haha, another pet project for you if you choose to accept it~! -
why am I having so much trouble trying to install these on the N6410? Can i not update the drivers of a notebook with Media Center Edition??
how stupid is that? -
Hi, completely out of practive in updating drivers etc but have found this thread exceptionally useful, thanks all of you!
I've recently bought an Acer Aspire 5012WLMi (small upgrade of memory to 768mb RAM) which has the 64mb X700 graphics card; I'd love to update the drivers for this but the network at work doesn't allow downloads of .exe files. Can anyone tell me where I can find a zipped version of the catalyst mobility 6.3 drivers please? (Home 'net connection is only dial up in case you're wondering)
Any other pointers on tweaking performance from this machine would also be appreciated,
Thanks all
Loof -
thebigloofah, have you ever been to www.ati.com?
They have a separate set of files for dialup users. The drivers separate in a file, WDM drivers in a separate file, CCC in a separate file, etc.
Cheers,
Mike -
Thanks, I'll go check it out; I'd been focusing on getting a zip file but will have to bite the bullett on this one!
-
thebigloofah, it's an executable file, but it just extracts all the setup files to the Ati folder in C:. If it's not there it creates it then extracts all the files to that folder and runs setup, but you can cancel and install manually through the .inf file if you want to.
Cheers,
Mike -
Lol, i knew that bit - I only needed the zip file as .exe's can't be downloaded at work while .zip's can. But thank you all the same, the contributors to this forum are exceptionally helpful
