I have a FW465J Vaio and got stable clock speeds at 660/760 when default speeds 450/600. I do get BSOD in Crysis Demo but can play for hours on Street fighter 4. I dont have any other games to test the stability. Anyone else like to share their results?

why dont you bring the speed down to like 600/750 then test crysis.

I also know people that run the actual Crysis game fine with 668/768 so I think i get BSOD from Crysis cause its a demo and released in 2007.

what are your 3dmarks like now compared to stock?

Crysis is not optimized to properly so its not your fault :)

    What's your 3dmark06 score at 1200x800?

I can run Street Fighter 4 at 1600X900 with mostly everything on Max without any AA at 60fps after overclocking, and my brother's brand new MBP can't run it at 1440X900 with all low settings even after overclocking lol. His GPU temps go up to 85C too. MBP FTL

A moderate OC should be stable in almost every games.

    Hey man, you make a "HD 4650 OCing" thread and don't even post 3dmarks benchies ?????? That's a scandal !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

I noticed yours is a DDR2 version. DDR3 should be very impressive then.

wow man your card is really underclocked, the core should be running at 550 and memory at 800 if you have the GDDR3 version. so that overclock you did is just average overall.

I think I have found extremely stable settings. I got a score of 7564 on 3Dmark06 on default settings for the free version and no BSOD in SF4, Sacred 2, Crysis with 650/810 settings. Does anyone else have any experience with clocking this card?

    This is my default... settings...

    Overclocked...(Stable settings).

I am using an application layered overclock which means that on every reboot I will have a default settings so no mess might happen if I don't do while running into my OS...
GPUTool is really good and great for application layered overclock...
    Cheers !

Never, really never flash a notebooks graphics card.

Some graphic cards are on board or are mxm or are another loose card.

If u flash a notebook gfx u got 80% chance of black screen and u can throw your notebook away cuz blind flashing wont work.

    Kayhesse is beyond wrong.

Anyways, flashing theoretically shouldn't be that harmful. At worst, a blind flash should do the trick but there is always a risk of bricking your GPU.

There is no way of doing it through the OS.

Hey, this maybe -slightly- unrelated, but what is a max safe temperature for the mobility radeon 4650? Recently I have been getting screwed while playing Aion, an mmorpg. The GPU temp reaches 124C!!! (and this is WITHOUT o/c) But when I run stress tests like Ati tool, it maxes out at 110C and doesn't blackscreen and shutoff like aion does... (after about 45min) Is this Aions's fault or my hardware/software? I tried multiple driver versions with no success.

    Thanks~

Mine has never gone past 85c even while overclocked.

I would be quite concerned if mine reached 100c, let alone 124c.
Try cleaning out your fans, applying thermal paste or an external laptop fan.

If that fails try contacting your laptop manufacture for help.

Thanks for the responses. I have an Asus laptop, N81vp.(core2 duo T9550 4gb ram and ati 4650) Its only 9 months old. I upgraded it to win7 a couple months ago, from vista (all 32 bit).

I cleaned out my laptop today with canned air, and noticed a small cooldown. I will have to test it tonight to see if it crashes again in Aion. But even with that 'cooldown' it still heats up to 110-115 at times. Is that temp just how my laptop is supposed to be? I really wonder if that's permissible...

According to NBR's review on it ( http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4896&review=asus+n81+n81vp) its cooling system is great.

When did you notice the heating problem: Since you got it, when you switched to windows 7 or just recently?

I'm assuming that your laptop's warranty is at least one year so if your fan is broken or something you can probably get it replaced.

Hey guys, Aion just released a new patch yesterday, and I also found a new Ati driver 10.3 beta, on the net. Seems like those 2 things, along with the cleaning of the fans fixed the problem!!

don't wanna be bumping but didn't feel like this was worth a new topic.
    i have a Pavilion DV6-1360us w/ a 4650 1 gig gddr3.
it reaches about 85 degrees max (in GTA IV) on stock clocks which is quite interesting. i learned it'd seem quite normal. (?)

anyway, most surprisingly, i've been running it OC'd to reference 4670 speeds (675 / 800 !) completely stable and after tweaking the fans a bit faster it doesn't reach any higher in temps.. = WiN.
just wondering, has anyone pushed the card even higher?

Hy guys, I'm new on this forum and I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L555-10R (with 4650 ddr3 - video card) and installed Aliens Vs Predator. The game loads by default with max settings and the game experience when playing with the marine isn't that great. I pulled down the settings, all but the resolution (i get a smaller display size and I hate that :D ) and still the same problem, there are some improvements but still i get delays in movement & stuff. Has anyone tried this game out?

    Cheers,

    Laptop specs (Toshiba Satellite L555-10R (Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P7450, 4GB RAM - DDR3 1066Mhz, 500GB - HDD, ATI HD4650 - 1GB DDR3, 17'- LED DISPLAY 1600x900 )

Check the Asus lounge on these forums and look for your laptop model there, they should know if it is ok or not. Personally your temps are the highest I ever heard of. Take into account some software for reading temps are not accurate, in any case your best shot is to look at the lounge.

    1: Clean your heatsinks.
2: Re-apply the thermal paste with some MX-3.
3: Undervolt your GPU by editing the bios

You dont really have to push the core hard, just push memory, that seams to be the more tolerable of the two these days.

    Hi
    I'm upgrating my acer 6920 Nvidia 9500m GS to ATI 4650 1GB DDR2
    and a new 500GB 7200RPM HDD
what is your memory bandwidth? i saw that the GDDR3 at 800Mhz gets 25.6 Gb/Sec.
and how do you undervolt it?
BTW my ati card come's next week

I'm new with Ati, ive oc'd my 9500 but not quite an improvement max 15.6Gb/Sec. at 470Mhz DDR2 instead of stock 400Mhz at 12.5Gb/Sec.

Well DDR2 gets the same bandwidth as GDDR3 at the same speed, so 800 mhz 25.6 would mean 19.2GB/sec at 600mhz.

I undervolted by extracting the bios using GPU-Z, running it through radeon bios editor (RBE) and reducing the 3d voltage (there is a wizard you can run if your not sure which is the 3d profile since it lists them all) then flashing it using ATI bios flash (tool provided by ati, all these are downloaded at techpowerup.com).

Bios flashing can go wrong, so do so at your own risk. However I have edited my bios many, many times (though always keep your original file saved and untouched, each time you change go back to this file and start over, dont edit the edit)and flashed it many times so it works more often than not

Actually my newest project currently has a 4570 in it. I'm really impressed by the core and memory.

680/500 are the default clocks. The default core voltage is 1.2v (max these cards do) and it reaches 850/650 (thats getting pretty darn close to DDR3).

Getting a 240m soon however and it should be interesting to play with.

using N81Vp, and the temp is no joke when at load...

running Folding@Home, it can reach as high as 110C at default clock (core/RAM @ 550/667)... my guess is that CPU heat affects it as well, since the heatpipes are pretty short...
