Hi,
i have been looking all over the net where i could buy the ATI Mobility HD 4870 cards but didtn found any site that sells them, so i was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction.
Thx for any help.

There is no such thing as a 4870X2. There are only single GPUs for notebooks. What notebook do you have?

Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
the asus w90 has crossfire 4850's that asus labeled as "4870 x2"
-
I didn't know that, they weren't even 4870s but 4850s? Come on Asus, what the heck?
-
You can't call them HD4850's.
Even ATI distinguishes them as being a separate model. The one's in the W90 just don't have GDDR5 is all (which everyone knows by now). -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
the only difference between those so called 4870's and the 4850 is a marginal overclock.... whoopie. I can call them whatever I want
-
That's how ATI always is, the HDXX70 is always slightly faster version of the HDXX50, but they do separate them for a reason. 4850's will always have difficulties reaching the same clocks as 4870's.
Saying that they're exactly the same is incorrect.
If you want to call the HD4870's HD4850's, you might as well call:
HD3870's HD3850's
HD4670's HD4650's
HD3670's HD3650's
HD3470's HD3450's
etc. -
Even on desktops the HD 4850 is GDDR3, while the HD 4870 is GDDR5...
-
Several desktop cards have GDDR5...
-
Wasn't it Gainward that pissed off ATI by making a 4850 with GDDR5?

I never said they were "exactly" the same.
However, it is a fact that the label that asus used , "4870x2 1GB", is misleading because it is not a single video card with 1gb memory, but two 512mb cards in crossfire. The desktop 4870x2 is a single card. -
Alienware should have 4870's true soon.
The asus ones were gddr3 4870s (r770xt revision), but they really actually were 4850s in disguise to be fair, they made 4870 seem poor
I'd still have a w90 though, for that mad q9000 overclock *cry* and the beautiful cooling temperatures. -
Correct. If you are going to change the names of cards because they don't match up to their desktop namesake, then you will have to change the name of every Nvidia card. Then see how confusing it would get !
-
Meaning they're the same.
Yes, their labeling was a little misleading.
