ok i using hw monitor and amd gpu tools it says my card temps at idle are 50c with power play on and 60c without.
i over clocked to 600/625 and it was around 70c at idle is this right? the computer is only 4 days old.

Could be.. post some in game temps, anything below 80C is usually safe.

That sound safe enough for a 15" but i'd lay off the OC and monitor temps carefully over prolonged gaming sessions. At 90+ your card won't melt but it will probably reduce it's life span conciderably the higher it goes.
If you have to OC your card anyway make sure to run ATI tools artifact scan so you don't push it too far..

You should ask around in the Gateway thread and see what their temps are like. Ask a mod to move this thread over there. If it's any help, the HD 2600 in my 8510p stays around 25 C when idle and kicks up to ~34 after I play an hour of Starcraft. I'm picking up DMC4 sometime soon, so that will give me a better representation of the temp of the GPU under load. I don't think Starcraft really stresses the system you know :)

Edit: Devil May Cry 4 kicks it up to 40 C

The hotest I have ever seen my HD 2600 (DDR2) get is 54 degrees (using HWMonitor whilst playing games), but that is with a overclock to 600/450 on a very hot day. Normally I get a maximum of 51 degrees with the overclock and < 48 without. With powerplay (halfs core clock speed) I get around 28-38degrees. But that is on a cooling pad. Maybe you should consider a cooling pad if you're going to continue overclocking.

idle at around 50c is about right, mine does the same.

Yeah. The 8510p is really good at keeping the GPU temp down.

dude, I have the same computer, and mine is at 450, 405 and it runs 78-79 when I am completely maxing it out (Crysis). Howevr, some games won't, so 600, 450 on other games may not max it out to these temps. But I worry when it hits 79 and the mouse "Jolts" across the screen. I backed i down to 450. But idk what the difference is between our results with both an M-6850FX

    I'll keep you posted.

Also, what is the benefits of a cooling pad?
All it does is pull heat away from the bottum, its like I need something for my GPU. Acording to ATI (when I called them) they told me that setting it to 500,600 for my computer model (M-6850FX) was completely normal, and I may see temps 80-83C. Sp I guess GPU clock should be 500, and Mem clock should by 600 but mine came preset at 300, 400 (weird???)

Are you sure those aren't the power saving settings?

Mine goes down to 250/400 in power saver while in performance I can safely OC to 725/425. (I hate DDR2...)

    LOL@ cooling pad

dude undervolt your temp, my laptop same as yours basically was idle at 60..and shot up to 85c during games...you just need to undervolt your cpu...

The cpu and gpu share the same heatsink, so when one gets hot, the other gets hotter..

too give u an idea im idle at 29c right now and its been on all day running benchmarks
hwmonitor says the max during all this was 71..which is 16 degrees lower than stock ..and i was overclocking gpu 100 mhz and up to 160mhz..

dont get a cooling pad, they only lower the temp about 2-3 degrees..at least mine did..

with undervolting you get serious temperature drops and no loss in performance..also u extend battery life and longevity of your comp, your laptop will last longer even if your overclcoking because of the cooler temperatures

All of your temps are cool! My 4850 boots at 55c and goes up to 95c under load.

Luckily there is that fan fix...

Yeah, I would like to know how to undervolt my CPU, and, how much undervolt is too much???? However, I do belive you though. I just unchecked my "PowerPlay" and my GPU core clock rocketed to 700, 800 with no Powerplay and the temps lowered to 55C idle WHOOT!!!!

Yeah, I got the A200 and I set mine on 705/504 but only with DMC does this config work but with crysis I have to set it to 600/504 due to blank screens I get.

    Whats your experience?

    Help!

I have a gateway m-6862 (HD 2600), and when I run World of Warcraft my gpu temp shoots up to the 90's in minutes. Surely this cannot be normal?

Is there a fix for this? (Ive tried under-volting)

    Thanks

Actually I was reading around, and the Mobility version for small to medium laptops is designed to run safely at temperatures from 75-89C at full load. Max before it cuts out was amazingly 100C (not going to guarantee that it won't do any damage at that temp, but it won't burn it out completely in seconds). ATI says that normal temps for M-6850FX hover from 55-69C Idle and from 78-90C under full load. I asked them about OC and they said, safely you can overclock Memory to 800~850 and Engine to 700~750 "However, any higher then this, your screen may go black or you will bet BSOD" said the guy who I talked to. I also looked into it, my GPU is not the XT version, it is the "HT" which basically means the Pro, except the HT means I have the DDR3 version, that is what the guys at Best buy said when I asked them about the HT which I misread as XT a few times.

I always thought that the Gateway M-6850 / 6864FX's had a downclocked HD2600XT ?? How are you all overclocking this GPU and what program are you using ?? When I try AMDGPUCLOCK the 2D and 3D options are greyed out and RIVATuner is not giving me that setting also. Thanks for any info on how to do this. God Bless :)

I've got my ATI HD2600 from 500/400 to 769/495, max temperature under load does not exceed 65°C (so far). I also undervolted my CPU to 1 V under max frequency.

    My specs:
    Toshiba A200-23Q
    Core 2 Duo [email protected]
    ATI HD2600 512VRam DDR2
    3GB DDR2 667 MHz

I used Atitool 0.27b along with Hardware Monitor (to follow temperature changes). You can use "artifact scanning" in Atitool, but i think you won't know if its good until you try some hardcore 3D application.

Just one question please: What is the difference when Powerplay is enabled, if you chose "maximum performance" in Catalyst Control Center?

sorry to bump a normal thread, but i was wondering if 87 degrees in farcry2 is normal for a brand new laptop, fresh out of the box, considering that my last gpu went at around 60 when i was gaming.
