artifacting is when you see weird things on your screen because you GPU is too highly clocked or worst burned out...(the latter does happen too much)

    Yes it is a problem!

    I use ATi traytools personally.

Since i don't have ATI (anymore) I don't know which is better. But i believe that ATItool has a better stability test. Try both and see which one you like best. And what johnny said about artifacting is 100% correct

Chaz should post here. His laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon X700 256 MB, and he's the mod. He should be able to answer your queries.

BTW, how come it says in your sig that you have a Geforce 8600M GT in your laptop? EDIT: Nvm, didn't notice it was a pending order.

yeah currently i have a 64mb version of the x700 and it has served me extremely well over the years... and now ive heard about overclocking i thought i could sqeaze a few more FPS from it.

I have downloaded the tool and can see 2 sliders. My default is 351/330... how much higher should i move these two bars up?

alright... but thats surely dangerous since it will be the max the card can do... and the heat increase would be massive too surely? :)

Atitool has a profile system. There's a setting called 3D-detection. when enabled, it loads the OC-profile that you have saved. And then you can set it so that it chooses another profile when 3d is not used anymore. And you can create a profile that's underclocked. And let windows boot with that profile. Everythung will be cooler then

You open up settings. There there's 2 drop-down boxes. Use The top one. There choose 3d detection.

Nope. Unless you watch bluray's or HD-DVD's. It's another setting. I don't remember which though...

... weird. I don't play CS:S, so I don't know why it's like that. I've never had that problem though. But since CS:S is pretty scaleable, don't worry. Just don't OC while running the game. You don't even need to turn off ATItool (under 3D-detection you can add exceptions).
