Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with the Ati x1400 in it now. Would it be posible to put the x1600 in it? I took my laptop apart and it is completely removable. Heat is not a big issue, I will drill a hole in the side of it to cool it down if I have to ;) If it didn't work could I just flash my BIOS? Also if it is posible, where could I get one? Phone Dell? Thank you.

Not it is not possible because Dell does not manufacture a mobile x1600 chip.

And anyways it would have to be the same form factor and I do not know if the Dell E1505 could stand up to the temps produced by the X1600.

Rofl, why stop at the x1600 then? Why not go for a x1900 and drill a whole the size of a softball in ur computer...

Ummm...no. Again, it isn't for the E1505 as it is not offered for it. The best you will ever see is the X1400.

Ok well thank you anyways. Is there anything I can do to make my 1400 run better? I have xtream-G drivers, and I tried OC'ing it but my computer crashes.

Ok thank you, the default speeds are 432/392, I have bumped them up to 516/468, The tempurature stays at around 60c, and I have not seen any snow or artifacts whilst play Halo 2 Vista, is it safe at this level? :eek2:

Wouldn't the x1400 and x1600 mobility be the same form factor? I mean Dell doesn't exactly manufacturer the cards. I understand that the BIOS needs to support the new card but leaving that aside, shouldn't the mobility cards be built to some sort of notebook form factor. With so many different notebook companies out there, surely they can't all have their own individual form factor.

No...they do have their own form factor. There are at least three, possibly four different types of modules already out...and each one has several types.

There is no standard, and Dell uses their own standard as well.

The X1400 in 6400 is a daughter board that is installed on the motherboard, and DELL has not made a daughter board containing the X1600 [And you cannot put the X1600 in the X1400 - AXIOM is a dead duck].And they will not make such a module because the 6400 is EOL.
