I checked out Atlantica Online over the weekend after reading a very positive review on Ten Hammers, and I can say I like it.

The general structure of the game is pretty standard MMO fare, but the combat is really cool.

Rather than the hack 'n' slash/turn-based hybrid most MMOs have it features genuine tun based combat, much like Final Fantasy games.

There are a couple things that set it apart, though:

    1. Each turn has an overall timer and you can select your parties action order however you want

    2. When you quest with other people, you're all dumped into the battle at once (I've only quested with one other person so far), and you all attack the same pool of enemies.

It also has the option to auto-move to NPCs, which is great when you are trying to find them to start or finish a quest.

All in all one of the best free MMORPGs I've played. I'm enjoying it more than Perfect world

    Try it Here

    This Wiki is helpful too

Yeah I played it too, until I got all 9 characters. Can't remember the level, but this game turns into COMPLETE grindfest.

Most of the quests you'll recive will be "collect x item x amount" and those items drop like one per fifty monsters, so you'll be killing them for hours. Not to mention the "story" will basically fade as you'll only recive long and boring sidequests.

    Visuals 6/10
    Sound 4/10
    Gameplay 7/10
    Lasting appeal 2/10
    Overall 5/10

There are better MMO's out there, alot of them. But this one is unique because it's turn based .. it's just sad there isn't much to do after you get all 9 characters. I finished the Witch and Exorciser quest before I quitted.

So basically, it's every MMO to ever exist?

No, it's not, that's the point I was trying to make. The overall structure of the game is the standard mmo fare, but the combat is different, that's what sets it apart.

And it's free, so there's no reason not to at least try it out.

Yea, I like the idea of proper turn-based combat as opposed to the usual "real time" animations that just hide a bunch of D&D rolls.

Just waiting for an MMO that has enough dynamic content to last more than a week without becoming a grind. =)

Can't comment on longevity, cos I just started playing, but the combat is refreshing.
