Because shooting a tentacle off will make anyone a ruthless murderer.
-
Do the stores refuse to sell it because it doesn't have classification or is it Australian law that forbids selling?

did cod mw2 get released there? airport massacre comes to mind.
-
no adult entertainment ! -
The funny thing is, MW2 was released with no problems. Also, the original Left 4 Dead was released completely unmodified, meaning it actually has more gore than Left 4 Dead 2 in Australia (you can blow off heads in L4D, can't do a damn thing in L4D2, and the bodies disappear upon death). Bunch of hypocrites.

For some reason the US is the opposite. Sexual content is a big deal but violence? A-ok for Johnny-12-Year-Old.
But yeah, it's insane that the censorship is so high on things like this anywhere in the world. -
Heh, when I saw the thread I though, "Why on earth would they ban beach volleyball??"
-
very unlucky... nver had such problems in Singapore... although rulers were stricter...

Did they ban Fallout 3 too? If they didn't ban Fallout 3, then that would be the ultimate fail.
-
They didn't ban Fallout 3, but only 'cos Bethesda changed Morphine and steroids and such into... "Buffout", "Med-X", and so on.
-
Im glad to be in America for that reason then... the AvP series was my favorite for a long time... the mutiplayer had really great classes and challenging play...I have been looking forward to the new AvP and Colonial Marine games for a loooong time

As far as I know, the Australian version of MW2 was not touched in any way.
-
Sucks if you're playing the console version then.
With the PC version, you can just import, it'll be cheaper, Australians gets royally creamed at anything electronics or tech-related stuff.
I'm rather curious though, for these banned games, at least for the PC version, is it the discs that gets released in Australia that gets modified, or does the install reads what region the OS is set to. Because I specifically remember for GTA 3 (those were the days), the Aussie version was supposed to be censored (no with hookers), but simply changing my region to say the US, and you can proceed normally. -

Oh boy, looks like gamers in Australia will not be getting their hands on this game. Rebellion will not tone down violence "for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices."
So this means the game will be completely banned for Australia.

I'm curious what volume of sales go to Australia?

Thats why the title fits this thread.

Both violence and sexuality are natural...
Check out a nature show... violence, death, and are pretty much guaranteed.
Indeed, it is unnatural to deny either.
Why either or violence is offensive to the degree it is completely censored is extremely silly. (having age categories is fine)
The US is very silly on this whole nipple thing... completely dismembering someone is ok while a female nipple is cause for alarm...
On the other hand, Australia seems to be taking the opposite (and equally sillly) stance.
Children do not need to play video game to see or experience extreme levels of both and violence. Frankly, my real experiences before age 12 were a great deal worse than any video game that exists today.
My back yard held more and violence than any game shows and my life really wasn't that bad in comparison to other people. (my parents were normal, but our neighborhood held plenty of screwed up people) I assume other children have the same experience or worse...
I often think these adults forgot what its like to be younger.
Wrapping a child up in a bubble when they are younger does NOT protect them from the real world.
Despite my screwed-up neighbors, my brother and I (and most of the kids from the neighborhood) turned out ok. Indeed, arguably it all made us stronger and distinctly opposed to senseless violence. -
hmmm... this doesnt seem like a good idea. i remember when i was a kid when i did not have violent video games me and my siblings would fake sword fight (beat each other with sticks) that all stopped when we got video games.

AVP2 is going to be massively bloody I think, cant wait to get it I loved the first one. Maybe they will do a chopped down version like they did L4D2?
-
Curtain hangers, hockey sticks, baseball bats... I have to say that video games are a great deal safer.
Oddly enough, neither my brother or I are axe murderers or terrorist gunman either. The way the people who favor this kind of censorship talk, we should have been.
Maybe, just maybe, its not what the kid sees or plays but how the parents instill values in those kids.
Stop blaming video games and blame the autopilot parenting.
Adult content should exist, rating systems are fine, being a complete idiot about it (in either the US way or the australia way) is just plain silly. -

From what I've heard, the Classification board in Oz knows that they need a higher rating for games, as even their own statistics show the average gamer age is somewhere twice the 15 rating. However, it appears to be the one plonker who is blocking such a rating from being implemented.
South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson is acting no better than a dictator, by assuming that he and he alone knows what is best for the people of Australia. I don't know what his reasons are, nor do I care - he is supposedly the ONLY person on the Classification board committee that is blocking discussion on a higher rating, and he is even blocking the option to consult with the public on whether they want such a rating. Unbelievable. -
