Interesting article ...
"According to a CDC study, the average person playing video games has more health problems than non-gamers, including more depression, higher body mass index, and an overall lower quality of life."

Just do at least 30 min cardio a day and BMI stands at bay if you don't eat at McOccupants or Dicko-Bell -

That's like saying the average person that watches TV has more health problems than those who don't, I think the fact that they're gamers are irrelevant, it comes down to the individuals. There are people who play games for entertainment, to pass time, and whatnot, and there are those who use games as an escapism.

I know.. the stats can be twisted any way they like. For example, video gamers are obese and addicted to technology, so let's send them all to internet gaming and addiction centers.

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
They should get a Wii. Man I work up a sweat on Swordplay in Sports Resort, lol.

Correlation does not prove causality. I would bet that there is a higher incidence of gamers amongst the depressed and socially feeble than in the population at large. Gaming is a solitary, sedentary hobby, much like reading, except that you don't tend to see studies about people that chose to spend thier time lost in books to avoid life because reading is socially good while gaming are still socially bad.

And They invented Wii sports for a reason.... -

, but when I read a book, I read alone, while I may be able to talk about a book with friends, I can do the same with a game

I don't understand why do they keep doing such meaningless research. I know gamers, who are in top shape, as apart from gaming they do sports and stuff. What about them? -
Unhealthier individuals tend to game or games create unhealthy individuals?
I would lean towards the former if anything. -
cheesy gordita crunch FTW!!!
i'm athletic (wrestling, grappling, muay thai, soccer, football, softball, weight lifting) and i'm majoring in game design.
the stereotype is there for much of the hardcore gamers, but many of the casual / average gamers are ordinary people. -

Furthermore, correlation does not imply causation.
100% of rapists, serial murderers, and terrorists have ingested water in significant quantities throughout their lives. This strongly implies that water is a harmful agent designed to twist the minds of otherwise perfectly healthy individuals. -
I am a hardcore gamer (at least I consider myself to be one). I play LOTRO about 4 hours a day during the work week, 10 hours a day during the weekend (if not more...). I also play some shooters and action games when I need a break from LOTRO.
I live on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, have a tan and run at least 3 miles a day during the work week.
I am a very healthy individual who works 40 hours a week, exercises regularly and games when I can. I do not believe gaming creates unhealthy people. If a person is unhealthy, they have no one and nothing to blame but themselves, not games, not fast food, themselves. Take responsibility for your actions and choices and do not blame your condition on something else. Especially if it is something you can change.
Just my 2 cents. -
Good thing I'm not an "average gamer".

I know of some gamers who are really into it but still sport a good body figure to boot. I think it's one of those stereotypes of the gamer that is emphasized in the study.
