When I am about to play a game (offline), I disable Avira AntiVir Guard through the sys tray icon (the umbrella closes).
Is that enough to prevent it from interfering with game performance?
I play while not connected to the internet, so I don't care about protection.

That should be enough. If your really paranoid you can stop the whole process via, right click my computer, manage, services, and then stop it. But I don't think thats necessary.
If your looking for a lightweight AV, I would highly recommend Avast, its free and millions of users.
Ive tried, Norton, PC-cillin, McAfee, Kapersky, AVG, LiveOne, and when it comes down to it Avast is always my favorite. -
I play with it on. It is IMO the best anti virus for gamers because it doesnt interfere. For me anyway
-
Any anti-virus with active protection will interfere by definition. Some are just less intrusive.
-
Yea, that's fine. With the AV Guard disabled, it uses almost no system resources. At least, none that will affect your gaming.
I keep it on when I play games as well and I don't really notice a difference with it off, but your mileage may vary. -
i also use avast and havent really noticed any difference when playing games but on my old notebook amd Turion x2 2ghz i did notice a slight improvement with the off.
-
I keep Avira running while gaming, the performance difference is negligible.
I am too lazy to close it down anyways.
-
I play with Avira on too. Avira uses too little resources to interfere with my gaming.
-
Thanks for your replies.
I never noticed it interfering, but I disable it just in case. It won't harm me if I play offline. -
My ping is lower while it's on disable
-
I have avira and COMODO running at all times.
-
The performance impact is if at all noticeable just about 1 fps (after you have completed a full scan at least once, anyways)
@Bill: 2 anti-virus software running at the same time? Do you really think that this is a good idea? -
COMODO is firewall, like windows firewall for example
-
What's wrong? I'm running Mcafee internet suite, Avira (free version), Windows defender and Windows firewall all turned on. What can happen in my situation and if it's not good, what do I turn off?
-
Well, since AVs run similar processes, there's a chance that they might interfere with each other. You could probably just get rid of McAfee and be the better for it. Windows Defender and Firewall are different applications that do different things, so that setup with one AV is just fine.
Windows Defender is anti-spyware, and a Firewall's a firewall. -
It's a good idea to turn off Windows Defender if using active anti-virus. Dual anti-virus is a really bad idea, the two programs will conflict with each other. Lastly, McAfee and Internet Security suits in general tend be to garbage. You're using the combined entity of the two. I would go with archer's suggestion, and ditch McAfee entirely.
Avira while gaming?
