BC2 wont load after update

Hello!
Yesterday I played BC2 on Steam with no problems whatsoever.
Well tonight when I got on, it automatically updated, then I resumed my game (lvl Heavy Metal) and the level begins to load then just abruptly cuts out, exits the game entirely an dpops me back to my Windoes home screen. I've restarted my lappy a couple of times now and have kept trying with the same exact result.
Any ideas why this is happening??

btw I was just wondering if I ever had to physically/manually enter in the product key, I got it off Steam.

not sure about the crash problem you are experiencing, but i had to enter the product key the very first time i loaded the game, as well as that if you have the limited edition version of the game, in the main menu at the very bottom of the Multiplayer drop-down is a redeem button click that enter your steam redeem code to unlock some weapons etc.....the keys can be found by highlighting bc2 in your steams game list right-clicking and then selecting product key....there should be two keys...

I had a similar problem as I had no internet for a bit today so thought I'd continue my single player game. It dumped me out to desktop just as it was loading to the game the two times I attempted it but when I tried multiplayer shortly thereafter it worked fine. Very odd! I didn't even notice a patch, what did it supposedly fix? Can i play with DX10 now?

On a side note anyone who wants an average player as company try adding me, my friends list is awfully empty

The DX10 works fine if you use the 196.86 Drivers but maybe they officially fixed it now. If they have done, I wouldn't be able to tell.

Edit: Nice update, my game now crashes just after loading so I can't play the game anymore. Maybe it is a new form of DRM to replace the one they removed

 

I tried installing the 196.86 drivers but couldn't get them to work, I modified the inf I thought correctly but it was unable to locate drivers for my hardware etc (I have a W860CU also). No big deal as I assume Sager will release the updated driver sooner or later and the game runs fine under DX9.

 

The game does run fine under DX9 but it looks so much better and more atmospheric under DX10. You should try the attachment posted by mobilenvidia post 18, this one worked for me.

 

The game works fine for me after the update but i downloaded the game it from the EA store and not from steam. It downloaded the update when i tried to play BC2. If its possible for steam users try updating it manually by clicking on the BFBC2 updater icon in Program Files/ElectronicArts/Battlefield Bad Company 2

 

i have the steam version of the game and have to say im really happy with the patch, the have fixed a few issues with finding servers and the lag i was getting in game where i was one minute sitting at 110ping and the next at 999ping has been fixed, its easier to join games, faster to find games and i think they may have even done some adjustments with weapons....as i find it easier to get kills.......all and all im really happy with the update

 

Same here, before the server browser would take forever to load.

 

I re downloaded the game and it still wouldn't load so it looks like the problem is obviously with the save. I also did an intergrity check with no issues detected. It appears that the old save with DRM is incompatible with the new save without DRM (for some).

Since I wasn't too far into the game, I just started again and it no longer crashes while trying to load the save now. Of course, if I copy over my old pre (DRM removed) patch save, then it crashes as usual.
