So just got BC2 (my name is PBR ME ASAP or Karma Cakes, if you want to instruct a noob) and have been playing it for just a little while and haven't had any actual performance problems for the hour or so that I played it, but I was running HWMonitor the entire time just to make sure that things wouldn't get too hot in there and found out that it's getting pretty toasty. As in CPU temps around the 80s toasty. I just wanted to know what kinds of things I can do to keep the temps down. I know I could get an actual cooler, and I have been checking out the CRYO NZXT for a while, but until this game I didn't feel the greatest need for it....my computer propped up on soda bottle caps has done its job surprisingly well =)

So are there any quick fixes for it? I run it on medium with a lower resolution (1280x720, I believe). I don't want to fry my computer into oblivion....

Frankly 80 doesnt seem overly hot... Especially for that game. I'd say start to worry if it goes over 90.

Undervolt your cpu and put some new thermal compound in there. 80 is hot for the cpu. My X9000 doesn't go over 50 while gaming.

    80° isn't hot for a CPU??

Now if that was the GPU he was talking about, I would probably agree (especially if it's a demanding game he is playing), but 80°+ for the CPU is quite hot.

Clean the vents and re apply (a non electrically conductive) thermal paste. The advice to undervolt is also excellent and can reduce temps up to 10C in some cases. You might also want to re apply thermal paste to your GPU, especially if they share the same heatsink with the CPU.

Yea my mistake, ive got GPU's on the mind recently. Seeing as i was pushing my 8400m gs over 90 constantly due to stupid Nvidia design flaws.

I wish it was just the GPU, but not the case with this CPU eater...

Hmmm, weird....I just played for about another 2 hours and the CPU temp never went higher than 73 degrees....not the best for the system, but overall not that high

What is your temps like on other games?

Did you clean out your vents?

Temps on games like COD4 and CS:S never get higher than the lower 60s for CPU, and GPU always stays well within safe temps too. I never felt my computer so warm before while playing BC2, it was to the right of my touchpad where it was the worst.

And no, I haven't gotten to clean out the vents yet, I was planning on doing that tonite as well as UV'ing

The heat coming from the right of your touchpad is your hard drive. I don't think there is really much you can do to lower the hard drive temps except buy a cooler.

    ^ What he said.

It's strange that BC2 is the only game that's doing this.

If you have dual HD's, I would try using the other one, and see if it doesn't cool it down.

Other than cleaning out your vents, I don't know what else you could do if it's your HD, other than buy a cooler.

Undervolting is probably the easiest and cheapest (it's free!) thing you could do. I was able to lower my temps from low 80s down to low 60s by doing so.

I used an air compressor to clean out my vents and it helped my BC2 temps a bit.

    Undervolting is another option. :D
