Hi Guys,
I have been trying to play BF BC2 beta on my CW laptop. Unfortunately when I join 32player servers the dual core cpu cant cut it and I get between 10-20fps! I can play fine on 16player servers.
I know the bottle neck is my dual core CPU so I am thinking about buying an i5 due to the hyper threading I am hoping it will give much better performance.
Has anyone with an i5 cpu tried the beta? If so can you let me know if it is playable in 32 player server and what your FPS' are (I used fraps)
I dont really want an i7 cpu due to the heat and poor battery life.
Any help greatly appreciated

What kind of GPU do you have there?

-
Yep, it is a 230m overclocked nicely. But I know it is not gfx related as I get the same FPS if I play 1024 all low or 1366 all high with AA/AF
I also have a Clevo m860tu with GT260m and to test I benchmarked it with P8600 cpu and got 13-30fps, I then popped a Q9000 in and repeated and got 25-60fps.
Trouble is the Clevo is overkill (and heavy/cumbersome/noisy) for most of my uses so I want to sell it and get an i5 notebook -
i have only tried it for a short time..
with my samsung R480
core i5 430m 2.26 + geforce 330m
using medium setting in all setting and no AA , no AF
14 people server i tried on

Battlefield BC2 is CPU dependant game?? instead of gpu?????
lol so people who are thinking of playing it with their M11X dell will be dispointed ???? as they will only have a su7300 at 1.73 ghz -
Yeah I have done a lot of testing and it is definately CPU heavy! If you could try a 32player server that would be really helpful as I found dual cores could manage 16 ok and 24 at a struggle.
So far I have tested:
Sony CW with P9500 @ 2.53 and 230m @ 600/1320/900
Clevo with P8600 @ 2.4ghz and GTX260m @ 600/1320/900
Clevo with Q9000 @ 2.0ghz and GTX260m @ 600/1320/900
Desktop core i5 750 @ 2.66ghz ati 5770 @ 850/1250
Both dual cores are unplayable on 32man servers regardless of gfx settings.
Both quadcores are playable on 32man servers even at high settings and AA/AF
I would doubt the m11x would have any chance of playing it unless the full game runs hell of a lot better than the beta
PS did you overclock your 330m yet? if it is anything like my 230m you can get a nice overclock for very little extra heat! -
Unless Dice does some final tweaks to the engine before retail launch, i guess BF: BC2 loves mobile i7 quads.
-
Dice have stated the beta is an old build of the game code and the release would be heavily tweaked. Who knows if this is marketing BS to sell more copies though
-
Seems they optimised a lot for Quad and little for dual core. FDinal version should be better.

not really,, only overclock several times...
try to play this game just at stock for now..
when i really need more . i will overclock. -
My performance kinda sucks. at native with all settings off, I'm averaging 30 fps only woot??? Worse than crysis.
-
can you try it again ???
if the fps still stay the same,,,
then this beta is reallly not just cpu dependant,,, it is quad thread dependant..
oo by the way what res you at ? -
GFX settings doesn't affect the fps much.. 4X AA and it stays the same. BAH. I have never had a game besides Crysis drop to the tens fps.
-
u really need a quadcore to rune this game well
-
or quad "thread"
like the core i5 430m
mine with core i5 + 330m( which is much slower then 9800m )
run similar or higher fps
