    Hi All,

Here is an article about dedicate servers for bad company 2

    http://pc.ign.com/articles/103/1039732p1.html

I feel that it is still somewhat limiting. Not as bad as MW2 though...

Why do we have to rent their servers? Why can we not just make our own?

All of a sudden dedicated server has become a 'feature' after Infinity Ward's MW2 fiasco.

Bad Company 2's setup is not nearly as bad since there are dedicated servers but seriously, why do we have to rent them. It seems like not only will access be limited but also control . . . not good.

Note to game developers - if you're going to make a PC game, just give us dedicated server support. Seriously . . .

Ya...It is strange how there is such a shift...The biggest part about all this that I hate is how taking away dedicated servers limits the amount of people that can play together...8 vs. 8? I mean, that is moving backwards.

In my view, this is just as bad as what IW is doing. I don't support it. It's one thing to offer paid dedicated servers, and also allow them to run their own, but forcing them to pay. I'm not really much a fan of that. Some people may be fine with this, but I run servers, I don't rent them.

Eventually, all new releases will be $60 due to inflation...But I would pay that if they stopped messing with our servers and mods that PC gamers have come to expect.

Im starting to notice a trend here. My captain obvious senses tell me that PC gaming -- as far as FPS' are concerned-- are coming to an end. They would never think of doing this to an MMO or any popular Online RPG.

I have been playing FPS' since 1998, that isn't an incredibly long time, and I have taken my breaks from gaming altogether, but it really is a troubling time when game publlishers/developers decide that the PC platform is an "after thought" and consider the profits on the PC platform no more than a bonus to the console market.

Maybe I'm getting too damn old to play video games. Apparently you need to have the following to play first-person-shooters:

    - inferior hardware
    - inferior internet bandwidth
    - inferior input device (controller)
    - an 8th grade education

    GG's

Uh. Actually you've always had to "rent" servers for every game in the Battlefield series. You can run your own, but it will not be "ranked".

I see it as better way to prevent mods or maps from being run on a "Vanilla" server and limiting modification of
"stock" gameplay, of course I'm sure you would still be able to mod the game, just outside of the "Vanilla" game itself. Much better solution that crappy matchmaking and absolutely NO mod support like MW2.

I'm not sure simply because it is cross-platform title. However, I'm sure that Battlefield 3 will definitely have mod support since it will likely be PC exclusive.
