Ok, so BF2 doesnt support WXGA, so everything looks a little wierd and stretched. Is there a way I can fix this? I tried forcing bf2 to run at my native res but it crashed at the account loggin, otherwise it works.

Ran great on Omegas with everything on high, lagged a little bit but I was on wireless and I havent yet made optimizations yet. :)

On my laptop, I strangely had that problem too, running it at lower res, 1024x768, it ran fine.....if you want to stick with the higher res, I'm sure you can edit the configartion file to force a custom resolution....

There are people who have tried to make custom video config files to fix this, but they get booted from the server for having an 'unofficial' game files. Those who have succeeded usually end up with top and bottom parts of the screen cut off.

Take a look through this thread to read up on some people's attempts

Please post the exact settings you are running at. 40-50FPS isn't what I call lagging.

If your are stuttering, then that's because of your RAM - BF2 is a RAM hog and really needs 2GB to run best.

It runs fine on 1gig of ram though, and thats talking from experience - I ran BF2 on 1024x768, all options high, af 4x, ran smooth no problems on 1gig.

I recently upgraded to 1.5gig to speed up loading times but to be honest a gig is perfectly fine too....

For widescreen add the following to the command line:

    +szx 1440 +szy 900

or whatever your widescreen resolution is. Some people will tell you that you need to change the "+fullscreen 1" to widescreen, but you don't, unless it makes you feel better.

wow, wow, wow. 40-50 fps is stuttering? Man, i play on my pc with a geforce 5600 128 mb at 1152 x 864 and i average like 20-25 fps, i don't call that stuttering. I wonder whats good fps for usapatriot...

Yeh 1gb ram is fine for bf2. 2gb is nice though - if you can afford it :)

Well not lagging, its more like stuttering, the lowest I dip is never lower than 35fps in the heaviest combat.

Hmmm, time to check some settings.

Its not really, I think he meant that he was lagging, as in, his ping was probably really high?

Because if you're stuttering at 40-50fps, it could be a problem with your ram or something....I get about 35fps on my 6400 on 1024x768 with options on medium, and its perfectly smooth. I get about 50fps on my desktop with all options on high, and smoothness wise, theres no actual difference or feel between 50fps and 35fps.

You can't really notice a difference once it passes about 30fps to be honest unless you have the eyes of an eagle, but 20-25 does sound a bit low headshot....still playable though I'm sure!

Basically, 35fps should be completely smooth - even in the most combat heavy situations. If you're still stuttering, as I said before it may be either a lack of ram, bad ram (maybe try running memtest to make sure its ok), or something similar, but if the fps is still past 30, thats not whats causing the slowdown.

Actually the funny thing is that my pings from my wireless connection to the wired connection only differ 10-15.

i've always thought its best to run with 2 gigs, but after having it on my desktop with 2 gigs, it runs just fine with 1 gig on my laptop althought some of the settings were toned down.

if you notice stuttering at that fps, its not the graphics its your internet connection. havok is right, once it hits 30fps and above, the human eyes can't really notice a difference.
