For the first five minutes of in-game play, i seem to stutter, as if i was lagging. Yet, after that five minutes, its fine no problems at all, ping is a steady 55.
It happens on every server i join; it doesnt occur when i start a new round, but it does happen when i connect to the first time.
My frame rate doesnt drop, it just sorta lags. Specs in sig. Any solution?

It's still loading some of the textures. Happens to most of the guys I play online with, myself included. I'm not sure if more than 2GB of ram helps... I'll ask around.

But i have friends who have worse spec PCs than I do, yet they dont get that problem...

This is a BF2 issue with Vista. If you are running textures on high bring it down to medium and it should solve the problem. Also had this problem with my X1600 on Vista. Could run everything on high at around 40+FPS, but had to keep textures on medium, because it would cause massive stutter. After upgrading to 3GB of RAM though I didn't notice this problem.

I installed and played BF2 on my original Dell XPS M1730, spec's were a T7700 2.4 ghz, 2 gig RAM, 2 x 160 gig HDD 7200rpm, SLI 8700.
I had the same thing happen, upon loading into a server, the game would stutter alot for around 15 - 30 seconds, then it would settle down and become smooth as silk, thats on pretty much max settings as well. Never really bothered me, always thought it was the computer struggling to load the whole level, all the textures and what was going on in the first few seconds? -
I reinstalled it on 64bit vista just yesterday and it seems to work fine for me except im only playing single player.
Abit off-topic question (new to bf2): How are you supposed to unlock the bigger maps and add more bots? I can only play the 16 player/bot maps.
Im currently downloading the latest v1.41 patch so i can play online -
me and my buddies call it begining lag

Happened to me when I played BF2 and I have 2gigs of RAM, a common known problem, very annoying but nearly impossible to solve unless you have a super fast HDD or two HDD's in RAID.

Like I said beforel if you're running BF2 under Windows Vista turn textures to medium, it should fix the problem.
Off-topic, I suggest all of you to try Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. It's the most popular BF2 mod and certinatly one of the most unique mods ever made. It's a little bit more system hungry than the origional BF2, but I'm sure most of you can run it fine. -
Skipping happens on my laptop when my HDD light flashes. My desktop is fine, but then again it has Raptor 10,000 RPM and 8800 GTS.
