BF2 loosing its shine??

I have just got back into BF2(last month), installed the patches and started up. I noticed that there arent as many servers, let alone 1.3 servers so I can use my unlocked weapons and rank. I am only seeing like 22 servers now(used to be 50 something a month ago), and all of them seem to be 1.2 and below. I like the game alot, but its unbearable enough to not be able to use my medic weapon, but its even worse that I dont see many servers. Ill check my settings and all, but I was wondering if this is common fopr all of you guys that play?

 

aww, that's sad. i haven't played bf2 recently either, but its something i'd like to get back into. but if my unlocks wont work... -sigh-

 

are you playing SF? Cause in BF2: SF there are like 80 servers tops. But in regular BF2 I get up to like near 750 Ranked servers. I just checked now and got 832 servers

Be sure you have these items checked: Ranked, Same Version Only, Populated, Not Full, Same Mod, Punkbuster, Large Maps, Medium Maps, Small Maps.

Also be sure you have the updated punkbuster client. You can DL it here: http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

 

yeah I may have that punkbuster thing screwed up. I was getting worried like it wasnt a popular game anymore, and it worried me cause the LAN and single player modes are extremly dissapointing.

 

like i said, i haven't run bf2 in awhile, but whenever i checked "not full" it would return 0 servers. as soon as i unchecked that, i'd get over 1000 if i didn't stop if before then (do i really need to choose from that many?). i just have regular bf2, none of the expansions.

 

well I usually checkl for a split second and that yeilds me 500+ servers. After that I narrow it to game ranked, size, and map(I dont like much of the china maps). I would never think to sift through too many as you can filter and control to every aspect you can think of.

this is tough to decide. battlefield 2142 is coming out in a few months, should i wait for it or purchase bf2? i played the demo and loved it but im woried that as soon as 2142 comes out people will just switch over and leave the servers barren...

and if i do buy now, shud i get special forces for n extra ~$10? is it worth it, seeing that a much lesser amount of people are playing it online

 

wait and buy quake wars ea/dice has run this game into the ground i cant wait until steam comers out with a similar game because you know they'll do it up right

 

oo that does look promising, but unfortunately wont be out til early 2007 at best =/... id like to experience bf2 soon

 

I have BF2 and all expansion packs and Im gunna get 2142 and im hoping it's just as good.

with battlefield 2142 comming out.
people might be a getting a bit borred of modern online combat games
with very less good online futuristic online games BF 2142 might attract
the borred audience to it
but hey no one has even reached maximum rank in BF2 so it still has some gas left in it

 

Yo wassup Citric dude. I got heck a lot of points and badges since I last spole to you. Anyways, don't worry bout BF2 losing it's shine. On 1 occasion last month, 90,000 or 900,000 users logged on at once worldwide. Judge that. I think right now even more people play BF2 that CS.

 

I haven't played in in about a month, and I used to play it for about 2 hours a night, but I played for ten minutes last night before getting bored. Its good, its still very active (-/+ 1000 servers), but its a bit stale now....

 

Counter-Strike with vehicles... I think it suffers from the same plague CS does: Generally annoying players. Thats why I only play it at LANs.

BF2, IMHO, was stale from the start. Give my my OFP anyday.

 

Well let me explain a few things to you that might help.

#1. BF2 patch 1.4 comes out TOMMORW! This allows for map restrictions such as cartillery, bugs, new maps, and better overall gameplay.

#2. There are not many servers currently running vanilla BF2. Alot have moved over to Armored Forces and or custom mods and map packs.

#3. Check your filter settings. I find over 1700 maps when I do a full refresh of the server list. Granted not all maps currently are full or house people, but I see them. I would say that about 2/3rd of the maps currently have people in them and are ranked.

Another problem is that 1.3 has not only been crashing clients pc's back to desktop and causing a host of problems but the HOSTING side of the game a.k.a. the servers have been having the same problems! This is one of the reasons why some servers seem unpopulated etc.

Hope this helps, and download and install the 1.4 patch tommorw however DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE INCRIMENTAL UPDATE!!!! Download the new full version, it saves problems.
