I tried playing BF2 on high settings offline and it was fine. Online, I can't even play medium settings without any problems. A friend of mine with the exact same laptop (LG S1) who scored 600 points less than I did on 3dmark, plays it on high settings easily. The only + he has is 2 gig rams.
Any ideas?

First of all, Bf2 needs ALOT of ram. 1 gb is minimum and 2 is even better.
You also say that you can play offline fine, so...
What is your internet connection + can you play other games fine? Even if you have dsl with 2 mbit, still your ping can be crap, so check other games. -
what is happening when you play? does it stutter (i.e. 3 fps) or does it lag (i.e. 1967ms latency)?

I agree with relachs,
BF2 really needs 2 GB of RAM. And the second point is, when you play online the game may play less then offline. Thats because the things are unpredicted, while offline they are all the same. And online more people play and the action is much more. So that may also cause the lag.

I played it with 384 mb ram, it was playable...

When you join a server which has 50 players (and every +/- 5 players coming in and going out). It will cause you to lag...As it needs more RAM...(yum yum yum) and it needs a lower latency connection as well. Its useless if you have very good lappie specs ...Please do state your latency and your fps [as pointed out by pbcustom98. Oh yes if you're multi-tasking (i.e running antivirus , running BitComet or p2p applications , you should close'em)

It kind of lags and stutter, the ping is fine. I would be playing with a few friends on the same connection and i would lag and he would be ok. This is only online. I think your right, it's probabbly from the rams. That is the only thing different between us.

my brother plays it on his macbook pro, with the his x1600 he runs it perfectly. And i have heard that the gpu on the mbp's are under rated too.
-
yea, definitely a ram issue....when i went from 1gb --> 2gb the difference was very noticeable.

going from 512mb to 1gb was the biggest hop in performance for me, 2gb was just extra icing on the cake. But yeah I dont fly with anything less then 2gb of ram on any of my pc's.

you laptop is messed up, I play bf2 on low/medium/low with PC2100 768mb's of it which runs at a whopping 133mhz!
Maybe my 9600 256mb Pro Oc'ed to 515/261 has something to do with it? Because the 256mb of onboard mem for it might really help out. -
Just by the way, i own my asus for only some months and my 3d marks has been decreased -300 Points...

Your HD filling up?
More program installs, more background tasks.....
Update Your Drivers
Back up and reformat every 6- 12 months.
Disk Defrag, Get one of those cleaning up apps, scan for spyware/virus.
Get some more memory. 1gb + -
1. yes
2. well, i dont think bf2 creates a background task if you don not put it in your startup folder
(and not start it manually of course)
3. naww, update gpu drivers does not really cut it
4. true, this by far the best way but who can be bothered to install all the programs again every 6 months (and configure) Well of course you can save config files etc. but that cost you time to copy and paste them and you must know exactly where.
5. naww, cleaning apps..., makes more problems than it should solve, just my expierence (and some more
)
6. That helps to increase for some more "3dmarks" and after that decreased? Upgrade to 4GB?
