Battlefield 2142 (BF2142) Reclamation Mod allows players to play Battlefield 2142 Online Multiplayer again, providing an Alternate Master Server System, as a replacement for the now shutdown GameSpy master server system. It provides ALL UNLOCKS and NEW STATS & RANKING! This is all thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Dethklok Clan.

There are other listings as well, and more sites. As for a downloadable, I think they removed this and BF2 from pretty much all major sites. I'm surprised it's even on Amazon. I don't think there is any LEGAL way to get it downloadable considering EA pretty much abandoned a gigantic list of games when GameSpy shutdown, even though plenty were playing the games. Luckily, alternate master server systems were made by fans for the more popular, like BF2, BF2142, etc.

Ugh. Thanks, but I was hoping it was downloadable. Running off a DVD is not really an option for me, and I don't long for it that much.

Do you mean just running it? It doesn't require the DVD to run it, ONLY to install it. I don't remember how it used to be way back when, but I guess EA put a NO-DVD crack in one of their patches.

As for a CD/DVD Player, I recommend a USB detachable one. They are usually made MUCH more durable and are more resistant to vibrations. Most importantly, they last MUCH MUCH longer because they don't have to start up when the computer starts (don't attach unless needed). Not to mention, you can probably just have one for a whole household and friends.

I have a USB DVD/Blu-Ray player. That's not the issue. I thought you needed the DVD present to play. That was going to be the issue.

Ah, wow I didn't know they made USB BR player yet, because of the increased through-put, since writing requires 2 USB plugs (Maybe USB 3.0 helped?). Very cool, although I might need one at some point in the distant future.

No, no DVD required to play. EA, and most others, finally realized everyone was cracking their installs to be NO-CD/DVD. According to Clinton's digital privacy bill, you're allowed 1 digital backup, so you could just rip the disk to an ISO, and mount/use the ISO on your computer from then on.

As stated, after patching both BF2 and BF2142 have the disc check removed. Also, if you redeemed BF1942, BF2, or BF2142 on your Origin account before they were removed from digital distribution, you can still download and play them. Likewise, if you have the boxed copy you could contact EA support with your activation key and they might be able to add the digital edition to your account even though it is no longer for sale.

But the main problem isn't obtaining the game, it's finding people to play with. Even before the GameSpy shutdown, BF2142 was a graveyard compared to BF2. Now I can't find a single full or nearly full BF2 server in the US ( ex1 ex2). 2142 is even more dead. According to this, there are <50 players online worldwide. Since these games have no singleplayer (unless you count bot matches), there's no point revisiting them except for nostalgia.

Hmm... I posted on there recently but they don't have the 2 servers Dethklok have up. At least 1 server is full almost every night, and there are always people playing. The bots on the other are tuned to a high skill. That's really too many people for the skill level of the players usually on there:

There is also Battlelog.co for Online Multiplayer BF2 (which Gametracker also shows). 40 Ranked Servers (164 Total) and 288 In Game at the time of this post:

Ah, Gamespy must be why Battle for Middle Earth is also no longer available at Origin. So dumb.
