So I've recently picked up BF3 tonight again (played it alot months ago) and I've been having hair-tearing connecting issues.

For the first 30 minutes of the night it played fine. Now that I want to play a different map, it's hit-or-miss. I'll select a game for example, it'll login/load and then it's stuck at "connecting" followed by:

Could not communicate with running game. Please make sure it was not launched outside of the web.

Sometimes I can get in a game, sometimes I have to spend 30 minutes of my time trying to get into another one.

Now before I make my decision on never purchasing an EA game again because of how frustrated I am right now, are there any workable solutions?

I was browsing through other people with similar issues, but could not find a solution. Did a recent patch or something break the game?

Usually when I get the "could not communicate with running game" error I just open up Task Manager, go to processes, and manually kill the BF3.exe process. Then I try again and it launches normally.

The technical support rep suggested that. He also suggested I delete the BF3 screenshot folder in "my documents" and it did nothing. Kinda bummed out about this game. I had 3 hours of free "game time" tonight and most of it was wasted (I got to play for 30 minutes tops) :(

I checked the BF3 forums and there's massive threads regarding it with no answer and apparently it's been going on since release. Will troubleshoot tomorrow one last time and if I can't get it to work, I give up on this game.

Repair the install and see if that works.

when i used to have connection issues (although not specifically the one you're describing), i had to manually update my PunkBuster to be able to connect to the servers. it was also very random, sometimes connecting and sometimes refusing to connect.
