Can anyone make one with parts from Newegg? I've tried a few times, but the GPU is what really puts it over 900 bucks.

Cheapest dGPU systems would be a Lenovo Y470/Y570 (GT550/GT555M) and HP DV6T (HD6670M):

Else consider any system in the thin-and-light link in my sig + ~$200 GTX460-768MB DIY eGPU. Factor in the cost of an external LCD for best performance if you don't have one. From all reports, BF3 runs great with an eGPU. -
