The next release of the game client is currently in QA.
The client update will be roughly 500MB in size.
Changelog:
Server Side Changes
- Some potential sources for lag/rubberbanding have been eliminated
- The old reserved slots has been replaced by a kick-on-demand system like in BF2
- Log file for server admins: all remote admin interface commands/events are logged
- Log file for server admins: major server events + all chat messages are logged
- Idle kick is controllable
- Profanity filter can be disabled
- Teamkill-kick system is controllable
- Ticket counts and bleed rate are controllable per-level
- Infantry only mode available per-level
- Initial spawn delay and respawn delay are adjustable
- Server description can be up to 400 characters, and use "|" for line breaks
- Banlist can contain up to 10.000 entries
- reduced latency in packet handling
Admin Interface Updates
- fixed the player.onKill spam that occasionally happened
- ensured that player.onJoin events always report the player name Interface - events triggered when people spawn
- much more info on kills
- detailed stats are reported at end-of-round
Gameplay Changes
- Various minor level bugfixes
- Helicopter handling has been tweaked
- Weapon tweaks have been implemented based on PC public feedback
- Fixed technical hang when a crate was armed outside of the combat area
- "Victory is near" message was shown for the wrong team on Valparaíso, this has been fixed
- Countermeasures can be fired when driving a helicopter
- The brightness of the pilot view in the Russian helicopter has been reduced
- Advanced Spotting scope works better
- Knifing people in the back works again (we backed out the change that we had done for Server R11)
Server Browser Changes
- Servers are sorted into 3 categories: Normal, Modified, Hardcore depending on their settings
Added support for retrieving update progress
- Now refreshes information
- Join queue system when attempting to join a full server
- All settings are automatically saved between sessions
- Pings are sent via an alternate mechanism, which should work for non-Administrator users as well
Client Side Fixes
-Fixed DX9 issue, which likely caused graphics glitches and perhaps crashes
-Fixed some crashes
-Toggle/hold crouch is user controllable
-Toggle/hold zoom is user controllable
-Vsync bugfixed for DX10/DX11 - Rewritten how settings are written to disk; this should reduce/eliminate the spawn lag
- Fixed bug where a player could join a server before the stats has been downloaded causing faulty stats in "EOR-unlock progression"-screen
- New chat system allows chatting when dead (but not during end of round) and keeps a 100 lines log
- Improved Play Now functionality
- Removed K/D ratio and Skill Level filters in the leaderboards
- Any points you get while being dead will be added to your score - Reduced negative mouse acceleration
- More informative disconnection/kick reasons

Presumably this means Play Now will actually do something other than repeatedly spit back "Server is full"?
I hope that a patch means a new PunkBuster release that fixes the kicking for "Multiple Direct3D loaded" on hybrid graphics laptops. The game runs fine on my U30Jc at 1366x768/medium-low detail, but I can only play on the small handful of servers that aren't PunkBuster protected. I opened a ticket with PunkBuster support over a week ago, in which they told me to post a list of running processes, I did, and then they stopped responding. Bunch of tossers. -

Bad company 2 has automatic updating even on the retail version.

Every time when you launch the game, a separate BC2 Updater will be launched before the actual game. The updater will check for updates, if no updates are found it will proceed on launching the game. Everything's done automatically so you don't need to manually download/install anything.
You can bypass the updater by simply launching the game via a short-cut to "BFBC2Game.exe" found in the main game directory.
It's usually not required to update Punkbuster manually, but it's a good idea to update it manually once in a while just in case:

Hopefully Patch will be out tomorrow. Tough when your developers are in Sweden, Testers in Romania and STEAM which is in California. Global might be cheaper but it certainly isnt faster...

. Then the hold zoom is just cool because this can changes the game for me quite a bit, in a good way of course. People can maybe quick-scope now and assault can be a little more efficient, and I hated having to toggle it. Great patch. Now I can't play the game anymore until Wednesday because it would feel too glitchy for me now
. Can't wait. I'll just play Bioshock then, Steam Sale FTW!

I can't wait either. I really love this game on the console. I prefer the speed and "accuracy" of the pc. I have always considered myself a pc gamer first.

Ive been having a serious problem with the audio in this game.
Tried several solutions including changing some values inside the.ini files... didnt help.
The problem is that the audio repeats, lags, repeats, lags, stutters, repeats, and lags.. this even causes the game to lag! While Im running it on medium gfx on a quad core i7....
side note: this happens frequently while playing single player.
Is there a patch that fixes this? I think im running BFBC2 version 1.0 -

I just played one game and I can tell that hit boxes were fixed. Even though I was able to kill people very easily I still experienced severe rubberbanding. Hopefully it was just a bad server.

Sigh. New Intel and nVidia drivers and a BC2 patch, and still getting kicked from PunkBuster servers after 5 minutes for "Multiple Direct3D loaded."
Going on two weeks with no response to my ticket with Even Balance. Ain't PunkBuster great? -

@spaghetticheese - I know right? I downloaded but have not had time to play. It was frustrating that I would come up behind someone, stab, and then they would turn around and shoot me at pbr. I hope the shotguns get adjusted too. The under barrel shotgun should more powerful up close..
Any performance differences? Average fps go up or down?

The Helicopter is way too easy to drive now, adding counter measures and tweeking controls is asking to be over powered.... Its tough enough to take one down .

So just finished playing with the new match and the knife is still sometimes hit or miss. But what I love the most is how awesome the .50 has become. Before it was weak and other sniper rifles were better, now I can shoot a guy miles away and bring down a chopter (without having to kill the pilot, but doing that is fun too!). -

It takes skill to fly helicopters and IMO i would be more than happy with having it over simplified otherwise it would take days or months to learn how to fly one properly. Even games like FSX simplify helicopter flight to an extent. -

And say what they added counter measure to the chopper? That thing was already the ticket to easy street for #1 kills/points and now its better?
Tracer dart did not mean instant kill, it took a couple of rockets and a good pilot would have it landed and repaired between hits or get behind cover to avoid the rockets. -
It never took me more than one rocket 99% of the time.
The counter measures in bad company 2 work well but will not save you every time. -
just finished a couple of squad deathmatch games and definitely felt like they fixed the hitboxes. i only used assault though, no vehicles either. ill be back on tonite to check out the other classes and choppas

Hitbox seems a little better but the CG and 40mm seems to be almighty powerful again. Plus flag cap is +150 points now instad of +80. That put me at the top of the boards even though I had 7 kills/15 deaths lol.

I like increased flag cap since I do often cap flags while everybody else is busy being a sniper or something. -
If I can't blow someone to smithereens, then at least I can get points for capping. -
Has anyone else noticed that since the update, the shadows on high settings look like they used to look on low? I wasn't experiencing poor performance before, and it baffles me why they would make the graphics worse with an update like this.

Got 150pts for capping a flag today...sweet! hahaha!
They fixed the bug with the M1 Garand as well, so I finally have a star for all weapons. Too bad they didn't fix the glitch with the award for that one, LOL!
Have noticed minor performance changes, but nothing too drastic. Slightly higher FPS if anything actually. -
I've noticed higher CPU usage, but no noticeable performance changes.

I finally got some game time in after several months off. Checked our teamspeak server several times on Friday and Saturday night, was surprised to not see anybody on.
I did like 5 or 6 full rounds in a 32man Rush server.
I got like in the top 5 each time, very much to my surprise because I was really rusty.
Did they add bullet drop to the .50 caliber sniper? I read somebody say they made it much better than before. So I tried it out on a very long range map to take advantage of the fact it has almost no bullet drop and the drop was pretty bad, it seems like its the same as the other 2 bolt action snipers now, except of course way slower to scope/shoot and leaves the bullet trail behind, so IMO it totally sucks. -
I've noticed semi or auto guns are more accurate now. But shotguns with slugs are horrible. I used to do fairly well with the slugs but now they are way off. So guess I'll skip recon now and use the other three classes for a while because I'm getting 2:1 k/d with the other guns.
