I used to play pc games couple years back(quake2,3 time frame)
I could not keep up with pricey graphic cards so went for console games.
Now I got bored with my playstation3(MGS4 rocks!) so I'm back to PC game.
I dont think i'll go back to ps3 until they release FF13.

Just got my 6831fx and only game i have is warcraft3.
Any good games I missed out?

    going to get
    half life 2 ep1-ep2
    bioshock
    resident evil4(missed on console)
crysis?(is this good game? or just good graphic)
Devil May Cry4(heard its better than console versions)

or you can get the Orange box instead!!

an acquired taste....felt unfinished and rushed especially towards the end!!, the terrific level design gets repetitve after a while, the story is odd but some find that interesting....one thing is for sure: this game LACKS VARIETY..

one of the best games i've ever played and easily the best in the series..
worth getting the pc version as there're many patches out there that add high-resolution textures and models and better lighting effects...there's even a patch that adds a mouse and keyboard support which makes it an improvement over the console versions..

    Nah, it's just pretty graphics..

yep, that's true...amazing graphics and terrific gameplay and there're not many games like it on pc..

I'm going through Far Cry (bought a couple months ago and hadn't gotten to it yet) and so far it's pretty good. Maxed @ 1280x800 on my HD2600 with intense scenes dipping to about 20fps (though an OC could fix that I guess). You can also pick it up on Steam or in store for $10 IIRC.

    COD4!

Bioshock gets boring halfway through the game, and the shooting mechanics are kind of clumsy.

Don't forget GT5 for you PS3 :) That is if you like racing games of course...

A lot of good choices so far that make the rounds. I guess I can add some titles not mentioned yet.

You obviously like FPS, so you can go with the Tom Clancy games.

Rainbow Six Vegas 1/2 are (depending on who you ask) good action games with solid SP campaigns. Vegas 1 is quite a bit longer. Multiplayer communities aren't terrific though (Vegas 1 is pretty much dead), so keep in mind.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1/2 are also very good games, but these are much more difficult and fit into the tactical shooter category. Also, the PC versions are different than the console versions if you are familiar with those. I haven't gotten into MP on these.

The Splinter Cell series is also enjoyable as a stealth 3rd person shooter. A little too slow paced for me though.

You can try Prey as well. It was on sale a few weeks ago (for what, $5), and it's a cool FPS based on the id Doom3 engine. Also, the graphics hold up well on high settings.

It seems you like RPGs, so here's a few very good ones:

STALKER - The oldest of the RPG group, this is a great FPS/RPG hybrid. Difficult initially, but the game gets more manageable so stick with it. Also, a lot of mods to improve the already good graphics and add gameplay tweaks.

NWN2 - A great traditional RPG based on D&D. Long campaign, interesting story, a lot to do. Definitely play on a higher difficulty though as the game is kinda easy. Also pick up the expansion Mask of the Betrayer - terrific. Shorter but packed with awesomeness. Very active mod community, so check out the NWN2 vault for tweaks.

The Witcher - Another action RPG, unique combat system makes fighting play faster, solid story, cool alchemy system. If you can, I'd wait for the Enhanced Edition coming out in a few weeks. Bugs fixed and 2 new modules from the game devs (although 1 is available now).

    Ok I'm done.

    Thanks all.
Ordered orange box, resident evil, far cry, bioshock.
    hope these games last long.

I'm huge huge fan of GT series. Played all 1-4.
But got bored with GT after getting evo 9 few years ago(cant beat real feeling of spool).
Evo 6 was my dream car ever since i drove it in GT1.
BTW I found out I'm great GT driver but suck at driving real car.

Story: it was not great. It was F-ed up.
Graphics: a lot of games has graphics like that, maybe it was astonishing three years ago.
Gameplay: it's just a shooter with a little skill building. DMC can match it. Fable can match it.
    Variety of weapons: Fable...

The game fails to grab attention after a few hours of playing, and its weirdness and monotony bored me quite a bit.

People who bought the original version of the Witcher will get the enhanced edition for free (download). I think I heard that you will have to register with their site though (not really a problem). Though, I would wait for the enhanced edition if I hadn't already bought the game.

Crysis is a great game. I play it on my ATi HD 2600 so it doesn't look amazing, but I'm still not tired of it even though I have finished it 4 times. The gameplay is varied and gives you lots of options to tackel each situation so it doesn't get boring quickly and has high replayability. The more inventive you are with the way you play the game and use the Nano suit, the more fun and rewarding it is. But it becomes more linear for the last third of the game; which isn't as fun, but still good. I think it is probably one of my favourite FPSs; alongside Half Life 2 (and Episodes)...The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was very good too, though I played it on Xbox.

I heard this was buggy on Vista, so was put off buying it. Have patches sorted out the issues?

The EE is a new retail package. It includes the Witcher, the short modules, and patches. Basically you are getting everything at once. Otherwise you can buy the current edition and DL the patches and modules yourself when all available.

I purchased STALKER maybe 6-8 months after release, so I never ran into any problems playing it. I am running Vista HP 64. I can't think of anything that was broken, the game never crashed and I was able to finish it. I never checked out the MP though.

EDIT: With all this Bioshock talk, I guess I'll add my 2 cents (which used to be a dollar - don't sue me Colbert)

I was looking forward to it's release and bought it early. I've played through it once using high graphics settings. I liked the visuals, I thought the environments were done well. The atmosphere was also great, probably the most interesting thing for me. But I never really loved the game. I thought it was a little too linear in design, ultimately the 'moral choices' seemed contrived and didn't phase me, and the games last sections were not on the same level of quality as the earlier ones. The story was ok but did become interesting at a certain major point. The Plasmids were a nice touch, although I remember it being difficult to fully utilize some of them with the uneven AI. Overall, a good game. And the intro was fantastic.

I do good in games, but better in real life. Just need a better car. :D

Bioshock doesn't suck, but it does lack the shooting mechanics. I think that it's a very creative game, but just wasn't done the way it should've been.

COD4, Counter Strike, Unreal Tournaments, Doom series, Crysis, FarCry, Battlefield 2 (PC)....should I keep on going...lol. I agree with you on all those features except for the gameplay. Bullets go all over the place; can't even get a headshot in. :( Other games just feel more solid when you are shooting the weapon.

I can't believe IGN gave it the highest ranking (9.7) FPS where it tied with HF2. I agree with HF2, but not Bio.

    Steven,

As for Stalker, the game is kind of buggy, but can be fixed with a patch. Just make sure it is patched first because when I had it a half a year ago my save files got erased after being patched.

2 extra modules, improvements and a few additions to the existing campaign and it's free to download to existing registered owners. It's going to be a huge download though if the last patch was anything to go by.

Don't get Ep.2, get the orange box if you havent played it already.
Don't get Re4, wait for Re5 on console.
Crysis is more fun with more gpu, its hard to explain. (your system should be great/good)
I'd pass on Devil May Cry on PC and look into:

    Company of Heroes
TES4 Oblivion (If your into that kind of thing)
and of course Cod4 if you don't have it already.
    Mass Effect

I personally think Bioshock is too much for me.
