    Hi all,

Ive had a fairly long break from games and wanted to try a few new ones. The last ones I really enjoyed were all around the stealth theme e.g. Splinter Cell, Hitman, Thief etc

Can anyone recommend games from the last 3/4 years in a similar vein?

    Thanks in advance

The core mechanics of the game are incredible, and many people (myself included) had a blast with it, but some feel it gets repetitive.

Also the No One Lives Forever series (though a bit old) are brilliant spy parody FPS games with stealth elements.

assassins creed is NOT a stealth game, not even close. it's more of a sand box action game.

Velvet Assassin is coming out soon. Supposed to be a Stealth shooter.

I, too enjoy stealth type games, and recommend ALL the Splinter Cell games. Hitman games are also pretty good, and one came out in the last few years.

farcry 2 with silenced mp5 and camo suit is SO GOOD! People didnt like it before, but its more stealth now with the newest patch and I am having a blast sneaking up on African villages and smoking people without them knowing what hit em!

I was just about to ask:

    'what defines a stealth game?'

Is it 3rd person perspective like Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, etc?

    Is it hiding in shadows?

Because Assassin's Creed has a different sort of stealth: blending into the environment then the traditional night-vision/peer around corners games. I am also one that enjoyed AC.

Farcry 2 has stealth elements as well, depending on how you play the game.

Rainbow 6 Vegas may be played through with stealth (especially on the solo portion).

Stealth nowadays is within most FPS games, and with that I'd recommend FC2 and AC (I would have loved it if Mass Effect had a stealth element).

Outside of the box, MMORPG rogue/archer classes are sometimes very stealth based. Anyone here play DAoC in its prime? The stealth side game was amazing.

sorry, assassins creed has NO stealth element, jumping into a hay stack/roof garden, or walking with scolars while retared AI loose sight of you doesn't count.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one, I played through most of assassin's creed being stealthy. Sneak behind people and kill them before they ever knew you were there, make sure others don't see you, and staying out of the eyes of the enemy. What's NOT stealthy about that? Sure you can go through the game just killing everyone, but then you'd have a search going after you. The game can be very stealthy, as can FarCry2, all of the splinter cells, and the stalker games.

In a way even Crysis can be stealthy. I reckon the whole game can be played through without them knowing you are there, killing them all silently. Just got to use the right tactics :p

Warhead even more so than the original

For me. its not rushing around shooting everyone. More about working about the best way to achieve a goal without major carnage.

A good storyline helps as well

    Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Its not a stealthy game per se, but you can play a character focused around stealth and it works really well. Experience is only for quests too so you won't miss out on sneaking past potential targets you would've killed. Also, arguably the only game of its kind out there in terms of the atmosphere and style

I'll suggest Crysis; you can play almost the entire game in stealth. And of course, you can go guns blazing too. It's a very dynamic game.

Just make sure you have the computer to handle it.

    Here's one:

solo the Baldur's Gate Trilogy (Easy TuTu or similar mod to connect them) with an assassin (thief kit).

Edit: If you don't want it to just be shallow stealth tactics (aka just killing all the enemies with stealth) but rather dodge obstacles using stealth and minimizing carnage...) that rules out most games these days.

Batman looks to be something of the sort. But honestly, aside from the Splinter Cell series I can't really think of a modern pure stealth game rather than just an FPS with an NPC detection level algorithm.

I would really like games that have a rogue class to be purely about stealth rather than stealth attacks. But it seems like the mainstream audience wants a more bloodthirsty experience, owell.

DOUBLE EDIT: I forgot, as someone pointed out earlier, you can play through Oblivion with stealth and it awards you pretty well.

Nothing's going to give you a comparable experience to sneaking through the Shalebridge Cradle at 3AM all alone in your room with the lights off...

Have to agree with subsequent posts. Assassin's Creed unquestionably has stealth elements, though it is not a stealth game through and through.

Whoever said Far Cry, I'll second that. If you like stealth, you can get around using it quite well. Nothing's more satisfying than throwing a rock to distract someone and then running up behind them with a machete.

Far Cry stealth doesn't work real well though. Sometimes they can see you and shoot you with one shot from 200 yards away with a machine gun while you're prone in the grass. Other times they basically walk right over you and don't notice.
