Here is a big question. Feel free to insert your opinion on what game is better/more fun in Multiplayer Online.
Elaborate as much as possible as to why you feel it is better than the other game.
Please only vote in the poll if you have played both games and given them enough time to get a good feel for each.
____________________________________________________________
So far for me I am not quite happy with either game. But here are my thoughts on each.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2:
I never was a fan of the Call of Duty online, as always I was impressed with the single player (though I liked the first MW more) but online just feels way out of balance.
I dont particularly like the unlocks system, the level gaining is fine, but the way you have to use equipment over and over again, its like farming in a MMO so instead of enjoying the game your out there trying to shoot guys through walls with FMJ or only using a handgun all stage long hampering your enjoyment of the game and hurting your team because your farming for the unlocks you need or trying to get the XP boost.
Thats another problem, to level up you really want those XP boost so you obviously get a huge head start on unlocks with the starting equipment, so you ding a higher level and finally get a gun you really like/want and now your faced with a harsh decision to use the new gun you like and have to start all over again with the unlocks and sacrifice the huge XP boost from the final unlocks on your old gun, or use the old gun and then give up the gun you really want to use till maybe a much later time.
I feel this is a superficial way to force more replay and more time invested into the game, but the games fun because of the gameplay not the farming of unlocks so I wish they had done it differently.
As for the gameplay. I like the variety of modes, most of my games have connected and started fast, and I think I have only had lag in a single game so far. But like I said I dont like the feel of MW online.
It seems like people just drop like flys and that the game is unbalanced between the mass of weapons and perks. Especially better players that get those kill streak rewards so quickly and easily they just dominate the game causing the score board to become very uneven.
I like MW2 much more than the first but just not enough to commit to it for a long time.
A major annoyance of mine is there seems to be "time lag" in the games code. Example: I run around a corner and spot a guy and unload a clip into him, then I see him fire 1 or 2 shots at me and I die and he doesn't.
When the kill cam comes on I see a totally different rendiditon of the event, when I see the camera he see's me first and starts shooting before I do. Its not lag because my ping is great and the game runs smooth, its just how the game processes things. So it really makes it hard to determine why things happen the way they do sometimes. I have also seen kill cam vidoes where people totally missed me by a mile and I still get hit and die... so the game code seems kinda wacky to me.
I also seem to run into scenarios way too often where I cant see a guy to save my life way off in the distance like I just see him barely as he is behind cover and try to shoot him dead. Then I suddenly die. On the cam I see him out from the cover way further than I saw him in my perspective and he also see's a lot of me exposed from cover giving a clear shot.
It seems to me that this game leaves little room for error and for experimentation. You either use the right weapon/tactics/stage areas for that stage and do good, or you try to do what you feel is fun and suck.
I like to snipe and for the most part I found sniping is very bad for leveling up (again a conflict against enjoying the game and trying to farm xp and perks) and also very hard to do since most of the assult rifles and LMG's can pick me off faster at sniper range than I can get 2 shots off, leaving only the single shot kills being viable, and those are kinda rare because everybody is moving too fast, behind an obstetrical or behind you killing you before you even had a chance. I have been better off with a rifle and a scope than a real sniper rifle so far... so that kinda bums me out.
Sniping is of course very stage dependent sometimes I do pretty good, but other times its just plain horrible. Still does not change the fact that a few short burst with a assault rifle or LMG can give the same effect without the lost mobility and limited ammo supply. So the sniper only has one advantage and thats very large distance and thats hard to hold in this game.
Battlefield Bad Company 2
I was very surprised by the single player mode, it was quite good right up there with the Modern Warfare series IMO. I just beat it and today started the Multiplayer.
I was upset to find that my first impressions of the multiplayer are just like they were with the Beta. I just cant seem to capture the feel of the Battlefield 2 or Battlefield 2142 games at all and I LOVED both of those. I spent so many hours on each, they were great games online.
Graphics and stuff look great, I like the destructible environments and sound effects are top notch, but the worlds feel empty and just not as fun to play on as the older maps from the previous games.
Killing people feels lifeless to me and weapons feel a bit odd. Sniping is way better. I was able to score a ton of kills easy with a sniper rifle. Other classes really have no chance at distance because the stages are so much more open and large. Despite this its not like everybody plays a sniper because there is armor and stuff to use, so you see a even mix of players using other classes.
I have not given it enough time to get a feel for it yet. So I am really going to withhold judgment of BC2 for now and thus not vote on the poll yet.
I think I can in summary say that MW2 makes me feel like I am in a battle, while BC2 makes me feel like I am in a war.
This translates into a few things. I feel BC2 can put more emphasis on who as the bigger brain and better teamwork rather than just the fastest reflexes and trigger finger.
The fact your not under fire every 2 seconds constantly makes the game less fatiguing so I can play longer and enjoy it without getting all high strung and needing to take a break.
I enjoy the excitement that MW2 can bring though, but I like that twitch shooter style gameplay mechanic much more in games like the Unreal Tournament series, not in a game like MW2 (and I was pretty darn good at all the UT games)
I think I like that larger more open feel to BC2 more and think that once I get used to the change from the older games and MW2 I will prefer BC2 over MW2, also I think I would get sick with MW2 with its unlock system anyways and that crazy way people can kill you before you can kill them.
Look forward to my larger BC2 summary and my final vote when the time comes later this week. Till then I would like to see the input from everybody else and see how the poll grows.

2 different types of games in my opinion. mw2 is run and gun while bc2 is a bit more tactical.
To me mw2 was just fun for a few weeks then I got bored of the mp.
with that said, im a match/competition so ill take bc2 over no dedi server support in mw2.
Sniping is fun in bc2 except everyone want to do it, assault is good when you get m4 and m16, engineer is my favorite with the ak74u and the ump45, medic....meh...medics are for wussieshehehe who needs a medic when your a marine?
-
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
@Vicious
MW is pretty much run and gun while i feel that BC2 is a mix of tctics while still being able to run and gun.
They are the backbone of the attacking team without medics you will most likely run out of tickets even before getting to your objective.
-
I did not like MW2 multiplayer at all. Just basic nothing special gameplay.
I feel like ViciousXUSMC somewhat if you relate to Battlefield 2. I love Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. Never got much into 2142 though. But I don't think BC2 is really meant to be a substitution or replacement for Battlefield 2. So far I'm having fun.
BC2 can be frustrating, mainly due to a number of bugs, and I am very surprised at the number of hackers. On a good server where they monitor that stuff, it seems like a few people are banned every round. I'm glad for that, but why do people have to cheat? So stupid. -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
I was actually shocked that there were a LOT of hackers out there.
I also ask them myself "Why do they cheat" for single player games i can understand.
I also ask "Why switch teams?" i mean people who switch teams only makes things worse. WHy dont you just leave the game. Also you will only get better when you are usually on a outnumbered team or losing team. Sure it sucks to lose BUT this kind of disadvantages will only make you stronger as a player.
-
I don't find BC2 tactical at all. Not even a little. Almost all rush games I've played, whichever side had most player just steam roll through with tanks won. And tanks, they just blow up everything, including their on teammates if FF is on.
And to me Tactical doesn't mean crouch and gun, it means communication. I played about an hours worth over Rush, Conquest and not one time, in I think maybe it was 5-6 rounds, one person communicate. Not once.
Where is the tactic in just rush into tank, blow up everything, get into Heli, blow up everything with zero communication? -
Ive been frustrated with MW2 lately from noob tubes(seriously every other person is using one) to the crap connections, even though I have a really good connection.
I have not experienced any lag so far in BC2, and while it is frustrating at times, I only started playing it yesterday. IM on the fence at the moment cause I do run and gun most of the time, which is what gets me killed. -
I don't get BC2. I can't kill anyone. People are freakin' bullet sponges.
And the mouse aiming feels really unnatural for me. I need to tweak the configs a bit, I guess. -
The mouse smoothing can't be turned off in BC2. You have to do some file editing to do it. Pretty lame if you ask me. -
But may times I shoot the guy from behind in the head, doesn't die. He turns around, I blast him again in the head, doesn't die. I get one more blast off before he kills me with his pistol (in the chest no less, huh?). Then (on non-hardcore servers) when it shows your enemy he has like 80% health. I don't get it. I figure it's a hack, otherwise it's really really bad hit detection. -
-
For those that mentioned about not being able to kill people in BC2, try playing in Hardcore (HC) mode. It makes a drastic difference in terms of how many bullets it takes to kill someone and in most cases, 1 shot, maybe 2, is all it takes. I found Normal mode too frustrating for the same issues as you guys.
With BC2, I'm really loving the destructible environments. Initially, I thought they'd be kind of cheesy or gimmicky, and had my expectations low, but the system works really well. Not only do the destructions look realistic, but they add a whole new dimension of strategy to each map. No more camping inside buildings or sniping through the windows. You can literally have the whole wall you're hiding behind blown up to expose you.
One gripe I have with the game is sniping, however. I think how steady your scope/crosshair is when you zoom in on your sniper rifle is really unrealistic and makes sniping easy mode. There is some movement, but it's very minimal. I really liked COD's system of having to hold down SHIFT to take in a deep breath and steady your hands.
My other gripe is the lack of other groups to play as. Every map it's just Americans vs. Russians. I really liked BF2 when it was U.S. vs. China vs. Middle East. I know it's mostly cosmetic, but it was nice to play as different groups.
Getting to import some maps from BF2 would also be awesome. I'm assuming EA will release those maps as DLC later for some ca$h.
I'm a huge RPG nerd, so I really like the unlock and "xp" system. Yeah, it feels very much like grinding for levels in whatever MMO, but I enjoy that aspect, so I have no complaints there.
I just completed the single player campaign this weekend. It was pretty fun. There was definitely a lot of humor, and plenty of action. It was my first run through and I started off in Hard mode, and I found it way too easy still. For one thing, your squad mates are literally invincible and do most of the grunt work for you. They can literally NEVER die. No matter how many enemies show up, they'll stand there like Rambo and hold them off for you. The only times I died were when I got careless and rushed blindly into rooms or whatever. You also never run out of ammo. I just wish Hard mode would've been actually hard. This aspect, unfortunately, made it feel a little like a console port. But take it for what it is, and you'll have an amusing time. I bought it for the Multiplayer mode anyway, so the single player campaign was just an added bonus.
By the way, how the heck do you add a particular server to your favorites list? -
I played MW2 for a while... I think Ive gotten 6 nukes in the time Ive played. BC2 is just a better game all around. MW2 might have my vote if it had bigger servers instead of 9 v 9 max.
I find myself enjoying BC2 much more because the action is always intense.. Ive knifed more people than I can remember as well by playing ninja and running around. As far as Im concerned, MW2 is dead to me lol.
**
Kingtz, I think you click the > button next to the server name and it allows you to add to favorites. -
I think MW2 makes for a great fast action FPS shooter. MW1 gives me more of a deeper battle experience. However I think MW2 is a very well coded/optimized game which produces very good graphics and effects compared to other games. The characters look amazing.
I'm still hoping to grab BC2 soon (crosses fingers) but even without it I will comment on how deplorable the multiplayer system is for MW2. Just to get in a quick game can take 3-5 tries of disconnections from iwnet/steam/hosts/time outs etc. BAH. Non dedicated servers is one of the worst things to happen to PC multiplayer fps IMO.
Hows the BC2 online/server experience? -
I, personally, haven't noticed anyone hacking, but I have joined a few servers that kicked out alleged hackers. This clamping down on hackers makes multiplayer more balanced and very enjoyable. -
im personally enjoying BC2 much much more than i ever have with MW2, there are to many OP classes in mw2, scavenger/tube/dangerclose is a particular fav of mine, sure BC2 medics are slightly OP but not to bad, the single player is a blast and the multiplayer is great fun, as one of the earlier posts said its much better when you have unlocked weapons gadgets etc, i have unlocked all weapons and gadgets for all classes now and like using assault the most, although medic is where i have scored my most points.....
id love to see a couple of changes to BC2 namely nerfing a couple of the weapons, maybe limiting the amount of mortars that can be called in, and also maybe making it so assault class cannot reload from his own ammo kits so we don't get camping assault class tubing constantly.....other than that id love to see it made that each squad can only have one of each class to balance out the game a wee bit more, one game i played last night the whole team where basically medics and recon......
all in all this is my first Battlefield experience and its the best FPS ive played to date. -
I'm kinda confused about the mortar strikes and A10 attacks. Are those called in by someone and how? Is the mortar strike just the call in (left click) by the UAV? And at the start of some levels an A10 attack actually strikes a certain spot.
-
motor strikes can be called in with the recon class when it is unlocked.
i have only played mw2 on ps3 and i would say i like bc2 ALOT more. when you first start playing bc2 it can be a little hard but after you start unlocking better weapons/gadgets it gets better. -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
I find it "ok" to kill people in normal mode. Although i usually empty a whole clip just to kill 1 person but i blame that for the fact that they die late because of my ping. Just to make sure.
AS for Browser experience. I never had problems with Multiplayer. Even at the first week. -
I've read some of the posts before mine and I agree that Single player in BFBC2 is a bit tad easy with the unkillable allies and the infinite ammo. Still it's well made and enjoyable. I think the Single player in MW2 is much, much more epic though. The storyline, the well made combat situations and the first person cutscenes are really fantastic. The multiplayer is definitely superior in BFBC2 though, and the destructible environments are something I've wanted to see in First Person Multiplayer shooters ever since Red Faction for the PS2(and it wasn't all that great back then). Really enjoy the level of combat and tactics in the MP great game overall and smooth gameplay on my Laptop!
I have some gameplay vids of Single Player campaign modes for both games on my Youtube channel, if anyone wants to check them out -
cod4 looks nicer, and has a better story.
-
BC2 is a little bit too slow paced for me and I don't really like the vehicles in a game that is primarily a fps..
yeah I know they add to the experience but I like a straight up old fashioned shooter, so MW2 for me
yes, theres a TON of glitches out etc, some what people may consider 'exploits'/unbalanced, but whatever, just don't take it too seriously, its plenty of fun. I'm sure dedi servers would fix a lot of this if IW wanted (restricted weapons/perks/whatever, better ping etc)
I love how MW2 can really keep me on my heels, I have pretty fast reactions so I generally do pretty well there. It can get quite frustrating at times though, due to a variety of stupid reasons haha.
Some people complain about campers but through 2 prestiges I've never had a problem with them. They might get me once or twice right when I"m about to get a chopper gunner or pavelow or something and that might be annoying, but theres seriously so many ways to flank them or embarrass them/otherwise own them it makes them easy to deal with. It helps that their gunskills generally suck too, making it easy to evade/outmaneuver them. I've made a living in MW2 flanking asses, its seriously extremely fun just running around and still ending up with the top score in the lobby a good amount of the time.
I do wish that it was a bit more skill based sometimes though, aka make it more important to aim for the head. It's basically point-->hold and shoot-->compensate for recoil if any most of the time. Not always though, and I've had great success bursting but yeah.
I've been a long time fan of CS so maybe that's why I like MW2 so much, it's kind of an updated version of it minus a bit of skill and throw in some randomness. but it's all good. Fast paced is fun for me, it keeps m on my heels and makes me think of tactics/what to do on the fly.
My experience with BC2 is pretty limited though. SP in the PC, MP on the PS3 (beta). On the PS3 beta all I would basically do is get a sniper kit or an assault kit, run to the nearest stationary gun (either rail gun or flak cannon type thing) and proceed to . kiddies couldn't compensate for bullet drop correctly, and it is actually kind of hard to kill people with rail guns behind those shield things. So I basically went like 16-5 every game just using stationary guns, or tanks, or other stuff. It was fun for a while but got boring for me quick.. I did flank a little too and that was fun but idk..I just don't like how unsmooth it seems and the slow-pacedness. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
i really disliked the BC2 beta, not even because of the bugs. the feel of the game is just off, and i've been saying that for a while.
the aiming feels weird, the graphics look weird, the mechanics are all weird. -
-
Bad Company 2 all the way.
The reason? CoD is SO random, it's ridiculous. I can't tell you how many times I have spawned to get killed by a Grenade/Air Support, or just flat out spawn killed.
And there is SO much wrong with this game, and it should of had a beta.
Wanna know what I am talking about?

... anyways , i still find MW2 better than Battlefield... its just that there's more variety in MW2 than battlefield....
-
Ah yes I failed

MW2 is like Bob Dylans All along the watchtower
BC2 is like Jimmy Hendrix' cover of All along the Watchtower
Both are good, Hendrix' version of the song on the other hand was an instant classic. -
Underlined because NOT AT ALL
Besides, we are talking multiplayer.. Havent played BC2 multiplayer but i know the MW2 one wasnt good, it was just pure retard action, but that doesnt make the story good. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Got more time under my belt, BC2 is getting better. Starting to feel a bit more like the older games.
I already like it more than MW2 for sure. Though I see myself visiting WM2 once in a while probably for some change of pace. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
I liked MW2 multiplayer a lot, because I am really good at it... I am either soloing and going 30-2 or better (and either nuking or just enjoying it and screwing the objectives), or with friends taking down objectives and winning every match.
However, I suspect most players probably can't find that same enjoyment. I nuke about 5% of the games I play, and I lose most games when I am going for the nuke (but it's fun anyway and I don't care) but I win EVERY game when playing with my friends.
BC2 was just a mess.
I will say that although I didn't like BC2, I think MW2 is more fundamentally flawed than BC2. But it just doesn't matter to me, I like CoD more. What I want is some kind of well executed mix of CoD and Battlefield 2 (NOT BC2)
Realistic art design, but make some allowances for fun in the mechanic of the game over realism. Super-low health. Tactical. Squad based. Correlation between teamwork and victory. Balance. No game-breaking bugs, no hackers. Then, the engine needs to work properly. I want high framerates with solid visuals, no weird mouse movements, fine tuned control. BC2 missed there big time. I still think CoD looks better, personally, and it runs at like double the framerate. -
I still don't see it replacing Battlefield 2 for me though. That is just too classic with way too much time invested to just abandon it. It will take a solid BF3 to get me to abandon BF2. Plus BF2 plays well on pretty much any PC made in the last three or four years. -
BC2 is the best game I've played in a while, no need for MW2. Not paying for that garbage unless it's fixed and gets a price drop.
-
bc2 by far multiplayer wise
mw2 is just glorified deathmatch to me that has a touch of michael bay in it lol. Game goes a full speed sprint super soldier pace and the real world isn't like that.Guess you can say mw2 is a popcorn action movie and bc2 is like a war movie.
Bc2 feels way more real world like and the maps are more organic. When I play bc2 it feels like hey im outside in the middle of a desert and not in some confined deathmatch arena level.
The audio also in bc2 is by far some of the best audio I've ever heard in a war game. The way gun fire cracks and echos through the air in the distance never gets old. Hearing people yelling across the way that has depth to it where you can tell where they are and about how far.
MW2 is just run and gun throw you in the meat grinder again after you spawn. BC2, a well manned squad can make all the difference in the game with supporting each other.
Mw2 just doesn't have them wow moments where you get actual memorable moments.
Nothing beats shooting a rpg into a 2nd story building blowing out a wall exposing the enemy. Then your buddies unload on them.
I traded in MW2 (don't get me wrong it's a good game and has it's place but to me just didn't have a lot of substance.) clerk that took trade in said they have had a huge influx of everyone getting rid of mw2 for bc2. -
*learn to aim/burst fire. Turn your graphics on all low -- like most FPS game your hit reg is based off of you frames-per-second.
cheers -
Full auto only works with the SMGs up close. -
I play mainly on my desktop which has no issue achieving over 50fps continuous. And hit reg really has nothing to do with fps. It's the network code, and server side issues too.
There are hit reg issues. Just because you don't have the issue, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyCMdzwo4sE
bc2 does have hit reg problems... -
.
-
People been complaining about the hit box in BC2, for both assault and recon. This isn't just among the few NBR fans here, I've seen this posted in other gaming forums.
- And all FPS players don't just spray, we all know what recoil is. To even suggest that you need to burst fire to FPS players is just insulting.
Since I haven't unlocked weapons for Assault yet, since only played total of one hour between medic/assult and sucking at bothI picked up an assault rifle, the one used in the single player with a scope. I tracked a player a short ways through the woods. Scoped, red dot on his face, burst fire. That strafed and ran a bit to the right. Scoped again, on his face, burst fire. Then moved forward to a rock. Scoped, burst fire on his face, he shot me once and I died. He still lived. Probably thinking damn I am one lucky dude.
This happened consantly. In the map with the shipping boxes. I would trail a player, and using iron sights, burst fire the guy in the back. To make sure he died, I round the corner and see he is alive, burst fire in his face in practically hand to hand combat close and he shoots me once and I die.
But then it has happened other way. I know I get hit by an M60 a few times. I turn and burst fire once and the dude dies.
It happens over and over in BC2. -
-
I've had hit registration issues as well, but only in the sense that I feel that headshots while sniping are a little too easy to accomplish. Not that I'm complaining, but I usually aim for someone's clavicle area when only a small portion of them is sticking out from behind cover and - BOOM! HEADSHOT!
-
Now either you really are having terrible issues that a lot of people are apparently having that we cant explain, or you guys are just used to not having to AIM and follow your shots and using burst fire.
As it is, to me, it is really easy to kill people. I play on low-ping servers and have no issues with registration. Im not saying you do, but I wonder if those people that can't hit the side of a barn door are either terrible or their game is screwed?hmmmmm. -
It's pretty clear there are issues. And reason their k/d ratio is low is BECAUSE THERE ARE HIT REG ISSUES. I mean if they can't kill someone because of hit reg issues, they're going to have a low k/d ratio.
I'm not great, but I'm not that bad either. I know my k/d should be much better. I'm not making excuses. I can accept the fact that I suck. But I don't need help to suck any worse.
Congrats if you aren't having issues, but please don't minimize the fact that others are.
My issue with low or high ping servers is my server browser never tells me the ping! And I'm tired of randomly searching for servers that have decent ping. And you really don't know even in game because the ping times are all fubar. -
It is funny though that those people all claim tERRIBLE hit registration, but none mention lag at all. Its almost as if the game only make their bullets lag, kinda like, lets say bullet drop and recoil ( which is a KEY feature of this game), which this game implements in a very not-so subtle way.
That being said. This game is NOT n00b friendly like most games. Yes their are the hot carls and noob tubes, but aiming is very much on key with games such as cs1.3-1.6.
Honestly if you are having such problems so early on with the game, I would either wait for a new patch (and play something easier like MW2 -- huge hitboxes in that game) or move on to something else; it might save you the headache. -
I enjoy the game, I'm not gonna move on. I only commented on the hit registers because it is an issue, period. I never said I wasn't having fun. I probably move at a slower pace than the game encourages, but that's just me.
See my last round I just played:
That weapon is a high accuracy weapon. I don't just shoot willy nilly. And I only have a 12% accuracy, although I know a good 50% of my shots were on target and likely more. Still did ok that round, but it just gets a bit frustrating. -
Once again, im not trying to be a bag, but really i dont get it. This game isn't noob freindly that is true, but if you have any game sense, map location awareness you can own most people in this game, because most cant aim for . -
I'm not asking for your advice, if I wanted it I'd ask. I've probably played games longer than you've been alive, and probably own a couple games older than you that I bought new. I'm a veteran, and a long time combat sim veteran, mainly flight sims, but also old hat stuff like M1 Tank Platoon 2, etc. -
I was trying to give you some advice as I see you so very much need it.
Don't take it personal old man your aim will get better when you get your new reading glasses.
Honestly I didn't see the need for hostility, although you have the lowest accuracy that I have ever seen -- are you sure you have your monitor turned on? Are you in the same room as your computer? -
There are major hit detection issues. They are not quite as brutal as the beta, but I cannot count how many times direct headshot to a non-moving target got me nothing.
Im not sure whether it would relate to the ping, because sometimes I do really well because all of my shots are hitting.
I usually snipe and my KDR is right about one, but should be well above that.
IMO the assault rifles need to be fixed, because they have to have the most brutal hit detection out of all the guns. It should not be taking whole clips to down people. I have very good reflexes and that fact that it is taking a whole clip is irritating and confusing.
Anyways, I really am starting to enjoy it now that I have figured everything out.
@naticus, I see no need to get all huffy about it and demean someone because they are not having the success you are. The game has major hit detection problems, and while they have not plagued me they are most definitely there.
