So the BETA was released today. I just got home and set it up on my desktop but it appears that the EA Master Servers are down and it is impossible to get into a game.

I can't wait to try it out though.

It does look very good. Let us know how you guys get on (some of us don't have beta keys/computers that can run it... yet!).

I'm personally looking forward to AVP more than anything though! I reckon that will be the definitive FPS of the year for me.

fileplay has been down since 5pm for essential maintanance and still is down at 11pm
and finaly just managed to get fileplanet to load with 600 od people in the Q waiting for downloads.

aww i just love when you have to download 1.4gb files NOT!

Downloaded it at home from work via a remote server, checked to make sure key was there and I should be able to pull it to my desktop and external drive to play it at home and to put it on my notebook for work. iPhone is to slow to download it at work and work internet is filtered (and I have been flatly told not to SSH tunnel out of work to my server at home).

Played for about 3 hours now. It is definetely a BETA. Crashes on server browser. The worst part is this game brings my 260m to its knees, its worse than Crysis. ~20-25 fps on any settings really.

Well it's a bust so far, play now button leads to connection errors and they are aware of the server browser crash. On the bright side at least they released a beta ;). Back to Mass Effect 2 in the meanwhile.

    Update:

Running in DX10 gives me an extra 5 FPS. And trust me you will need it. This game is a resource hog. I might have to get a Quad core for this game. Either way on ALL high or ALL low, no AA, no HBAO, 1680x1050, i still get about 25FPS.

The lag could have something to do with my FPS, as the servers are screwed and EA is working on the problem at the moment.

Resource hog or badly optimized a la Crysis? If you're getting the same FPS at high settings compared to low, I'm going to lean towards bad optimization. I'll say a patch will drop sometime in the next few weeks. Hopefully it's playable then.

it's a BETA, that's what they try fix. the community complains and DICE fixes.

    @ ViciousXUSMC

Let the website fully load for 1-2minutes, then if you see the captcha pic, enter it. Press "Get BETA Key", then just wait a while. Don't press anything on that website after pressing that button, and check your email to see if you got it.

the whole process took 1 minutes to do for me, so i don't know what problems other people could be having.

ON 8800GTS I play on high and medium qith 1440x900, opted to stay with medium settings just incase. And I gotta say I regret buying this game on Steam, had to pay in full to pre-order and can't cancel like in gamestop or ebgames. Game is horrible on graphics, it's just too dense, with 1000s of things on map, u can't focus at all. Also it feels like like aiming with ps3 controller, the movement is not smooth at all. And I consider myself pretty good fps player, with taking first place in games like bf2, tf2, mw, cod:waw, cs long time ago. something just doesn't feel right in this game.

Sumik, you can cancel pre-orders on steam. That's one of their things on "refunds". As long as the game has not released yet. So yeah send in a ticket and request a refund!!

I'm pretty sure this game is very cpu dependent, hence why they are recommending a quad core over the minimum dual. I found that many of the settings seem to run pretty similar. Although I do see a difference in each of them.

    On my Asus G51vx-rx05 - upgraded to a T9900 3.06 - ran with turbo mode at 3.4ghz

Low - 30-60fps at native 1366*768 with no sync or the other thing, 2x AA/AF
    Medium 25-50
High 20-40ish never seen below 20fps yet

Temps maxed out at 91C, and was in 80s during play even with OC. This game runs much cooler for me for some reason.

Ok after about 45mins running the game I'm happy with how it runs on my system my specs are in sig. I am running at 1600x900 with textures high and the other settings at medium. 1x AA and AF which looks the same as 2x as far as I could see and awarded me an additional 3-5fps. I am getting solid 35-60 fps (60 when only a few players or vehicles on map 30ish when action is heavy)

I think the game is probably fairly CPU dependant considering we both have GTX 260m. I am running stock clocks with everything and I think with some tweaking and a mild overclock I can run BFBC2 even better. Also consider that the final game after a patch or two comes out may be a little more polished and optimised thus possibly running smoother but as is my game experience was still really good, I will be buying this ASAP.

how do you run it at 1600x900? i dont see the option for that...

as for me, i think i'll be delaying this purchase (not anytime soon), it looked fun but the sniping isn't like COD, insta-bullet travel...soo i suck at sniping = me don't like >: (

your screen probably doesn't do 1600x900 which is why you can't see it. My old Dell with 1920x1080p couldn't do 1600x900 but many other resolutions.

I'm beginning to think it is CPU dependent seeing an i7 kick some though. That's awesome man.

Battlefield games in general play much differently then CoD games IMO. It's an aquired taste I think, Ive been playing the series since 1942 so the controls felt very familiar to me, feels like the game 2142 wanted to be. I just bought mwf2 for 360 yesterday because thats what alot of my friends play but they wont see me on xbox live when bfbc2 comes out, Ill be buying for pc. On another note I thought I remembered hearing that crysis and a few others came out with patches post release that made the game run a little better on some peoples systems, is this true? I dont have a ton of experience with beta's the last one I did was PlanetSide (lol at that game)

I know it has to be cpu heavy, usually my 260m heats up a lot more than what this game causes. Im only hitting a peak of 91C, usually it is higher in games that are more gpu dependent. And I'm hitting much higher temps on the cpu, where usually it will peak around 65C, I'm hitting all the way up to 70C before it fans up to cool down.

I'm thinking I'm going to crank up my T9900 to see what else I can squeeze outta my frames, hopefully it won't get too hot.

I wish I could upgrade to a quad, I think that would help immensely, but I'll just have to settle for a fast overclocked dual.

I'm happy with the way it runs, at 1366*768 - low except texture detail on high and 2x AA and AF - gets between 25-60 in high density combat and next to no combat or vehicles/soldiers around. Its very playable even when the fps hit their lows. I'm sure with patches and further optimization this game will run even better.

Try the 1x AA and AF button it still takes most of the jaggies out and will probably give you slightly better frames. Also I'm running hardware vsync. What is the consensus on hardware AA vs software??

Alright, here are my impressions after playing for a couple of hours.

The game is still clearly a BETA. There are quite a few bugs. And the lag can be quite unbearable at times. I'm not sure how I feel about player movement, it feels sluggish and unresponsive. And guns take way too many bullets to kill. Also, knifing has this auto-aim kinda thing, which I don't like too much. However, the gameplay is solid, the graphics, environment and sounds are excellent.

This game taxes your GPU heavily, especially at higher resolutions.

dam, my monitor doesn't support those resolutions in BF? all other games let me choose it -_- i have to use 1280x720 to maintain the 16:9 aspect. that or 1920x1080...two choices. i would love to do 1600x900 though, or even 1366x768.

My 4850 512Mb managed to pull through at 1920 x 1200 with all settings on high, except shadows and effects both on medium with 1xAA and 8xAF with HBAO off. A solid 40-60FPS.

    EDIT:

    Performance on my desktop:

    Time: 286535(ms)
    Min: 31fps
    Max: 72fps
    Avg: 42.675fps
