First off, I'm no n00b to the battlefield series. I've been playing BF since the release of the Battlefield 2 demo in 2005, since then I've played Battlefield 2142 and a bit of Bad Company. I was excited to hear that BC2 would be released on the PC since a Battlefield 3 game was/is nowhere in sight as of yet. Naturally I jumped on the BETA and was a bit disappointed. I ended up canceling my preorder but decided to give the retail game a go.
First things first, some of the missions are little bit too cliched and fakish. For example, the first mission where you are a WWII commando and you go under the bridge with the two Japs on top and they don't notice. Or the part where you supposedly sneak up on the Japs to stab them. Honestly, they would have seen you coming in both instances but whatever.
Now, I'm having a real issue with the SP. Mouse lag. The mouse lag is terrible, it practically makes the game unplayable. Its as if the game was designed for use with a controller and not a mouse. I hope they patch this up soon because I will be not be playing the game till the mouse lag is fixed.
I heard that they attempted to fix the mouse lag in the BETA but apparently it was not successful because its not fixed in the retail game.
Otherwise the GFX look great, the story seems ok and the gameplay can't really be evaluated until the mouse lag is fixed. As of right now the multiplayer is broken so I will reserve judgment on that till a later date.

Yeah, it's off to a bumpy start that's for sure. I still haven't played the single player, but probably will soon. For me, I was planning on the multiplayer. So far it's been horrible. Can almost never connect, high pings, constant drops.
However, I did find that if you download the latest punkbuster, and add Bad Company 2 to update, but make sure you change the path to the proper one, because for some reason it isn't, then it updates ok, and seems a little more stable.
They're actually displaying pings now in the multiplayer list. Thank goodness. That helps. -
Bugger, shame to hear yet another game released with flaws. Still, eager to play this one, loved the first one, and it now being available on the PC is just icing on the cake!
Unfortunately I just bought a PS3 along with a new laptop. I got MAG, really enjoying it... Now there is BF as well... Dammit! -

My first game that i have to BUY!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing Multiplayer!!!! Awesome graphics specially in SP in the Forest Area.
My Ping(300 and i face guys with 100) sucks when in USA servers but that does not stop me from getting my Avatar

Still waiting ofr Asian servers I still cant find one.
there may be problems connecting to servers BUt considering the amount of people i guess it is a given. Playing high and Mid settings with my RIG. -
i've actually been having a ball with this game... singleplayer is fun, and honestly, multiplayer shooters are not normally my thing, but this is a blast!
Tanks and 4 Wheelers? Can play it slow and sneak in to the next point, or go blasting in high speed on a 4 wheeler. And I haven't seen this yet in the retail, but in the beta it was fun flying a remote drone into battle. Fun stuff, really enjoying it.
Also, I didn't notice this as much in the beta, but the destructable objects, walls, building, etc are really cool... blast enough and the cover that somebody's hiding behind gets destroyed. And when you are on the receiving end, can't just hide behind cover and be safe.
Haven't run into the mouse lag issue that I can tell? Controls seem fine, and so far no crashes or the like... performance isn't great, but it's playable, and there are tons of objects flying around, so I can forgive it some.
So far so good, pleasantly suprised. -
Yeah the game seems well optimized and for one, it is actually fun as be77solo says it!
-
Yea with all of this talk about how bad Battlefield Bad Company runs on people system so I was worry about buying it for my system. Low and behold it runs great on my system and looks good too! See my sig for my system. I play on 1280x800 texture medium. Just got it today and I am in love with it! I thought the intro playing in Japan was nice it and the first snow level reminded me of a reminisce of medal of honor allied assault.
So I just started the second campaign then decided to jump into multiplayer real quick and it was fun. I was playing squad deathmatch and other squad had 3 or 4 people and mine was me and another dude. We were the one in lead the whole game and I love knife kills because it is so easy. Also I don't know what lag mouse you are having maybe something might be wrong with the mouse you are using. And this game is well optimized. -

the multiplayer just felt weird to me... it didn't feel right.
something was off about the actual gameplay. -

It's almost as if mouse acceleration is turned on even if it is disabled in Windows and in-game. -
I think the game is awesome. Really nice graphics, awesome physics, DEDICATED SERVERS.
I just have a big issue with the damage output from the weapons. In normal (not hardcore) mode it takes like 4+ shots to kill someone with an M249 at point-blank range, and with the starting assault rifle it takes like 3 burst shots to kill someone. Besides that there are little bugs here and there. Sometimes at the end of a match my game will just force close automatically. -
I was really let down, just bought it yesterday and the multi player sucks.....I like the old bf2 physics and game play way better. I guess I am spoiled by cod games..time to start playing single player mode.
-

Even though I doubt BF3 will have as much physics as BC2 simply because the maps will be a lot bigger, there will be a lot more players and a lot more going on. -
drop your settings down an octave (if you have it set on high because you thought your system was sweet...drop it down to medium and watch everything get better. if you're on medium now, go to custom and tweak individual settings or go straight to low settings). consider dropping your resolution as well.
voilia. fixed "lag" issue.
if it's still lagging on "Low" settings and a low resolution, game over for you. -
I just have one question. Can I play Bad Company 2 singleplayer offline? I'm going on a trip where I will have no internet connection...
-
Loved it when I could play multiplayer, which wasn't as much as I'd like. I played just fine on High as long as the server ping was reasonable. Mouse wasn't QUITE as reflexive as I would have liked but I lived with it.
-
I have this:
Sony Vaio FW:
P8400
HD3650 512mo DDR3
4go DDR2
And I can play the single player in medium at 1400x900 -
Yep, singleplayer is just fine offline, no problem there. Also, trying to notice a mouse lag, but so far can't tell any issues.

It's not FPS lag it is MOUSE lag. Maybe you haven't played enough PC FPS's like Counterstrike and Battlefield 2 to know what mouse lag is and what it means. And yes, I think my system is "sweet" and rapes yours. -
could you explain what mouse lag is for me as i never experienced it myself, except when its closely connected to low framerate (30 or less)?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Play Counter Strike and then try BC2. In CS, the mouse moves instantaneously, in BC2, it does not.
This is a real issue, DICE issued a BETA patched which was supposed to resolve the mouse lag issues but apparently it did not do so completely. -
My first impressions with BC2 aren't that great. The single player is like a bad imitation of MW2.
In the first mission I honestly thought I had the wrong game due to it being ww2... and then you hear the horn sound or whatever and I could have sworn it was crysis in ww2.
The physics and destructibility are awesome, big improvement!
Is the sound "muffled" to anyone else? It's almost like you're hearing the game through ear plugs. The sound effects are good, like gunshots and explosions. Yet they never sound "close".
I haven't played too much multiplayer yet. I was really in to BF2 though so it has some big shoes to fill. -

what you're describing sounds like fps related lag. i wont jump to conclusion and say you dont have a mouse lag, but you should test running game in normal fps, 60+ before concluding your problem is not fps related.
cs is a very old game and it runs smooth on any pc, i have played it just as i have played many other fps games and usually first thing person learns when playing fps online is that you need high and constant framerate, as i said, 60+ is a must. there are games that run fine with less fps, for example sims can run fine with ~30 or so, but shooters are a different story. -

different games usually have different engines, and sometimes difference gets even bigger if games have different input methods, its possible that bfbc2 is using direct input which is very sensitive to fps drops.
you should try running the game on lower settings that will give you higher fps and see if the problem persists -___-
if you're mouse was crap you would have problems in any game, not just bfbc2, since you dont, and you're the only person reporting "mouse lag", its not excluded that problem lies in low fps until you prove otherwise -

It does not make sense why I have input lag 100% of the time when I am mostly getting 45+ FPS. Input lag shouldn't even be an issue until you dip below 30 FPS anyways.
Being primarily an FPS gamer, I demand precision in shooters. Otherwise it just messes me up. I play L4D2 maxed out with no problems, same FPS range as BC2. Yeah, I plan on getting a 5870 s00n, once Fermi drops and the price wars begin but it should still be no problem with my 4850. -
you should get your story straight, first you're talking you have 30+ fps and now its 46-48 average in beta which would mean you probably have even more in retail. i was answering your post on the top of the page, if you informed us that you have ~50fps right away, we wouldnt waste these last few post discussing how to solve problem the wrong way :x
-
I have no mouse lag issues as well.
I am going to repeat though... the damage output for the weapons still seem ridiculously low. -
-
and i'm quite he'll die like a fry... looks like i'm staying away from this untill it is patched properly and i get an Asus G73...
-
As for patriot having mouse lag are you using a gaming mouse or playing it on a monitor that doesn't have a great refresh rate? Me and my deathadder run smoothly together. -
Still looking for mouse lag, curious, but even on my M11x, which runs it around 25fps or so, i have no lag issues that I can detect... still enjoying the game quite a bit.
-
and I'm playing it on my desktop on maxed settings @ 1920x1080, 1xAA, 4xAF, HBAO on, with 60+ fps average...

I still haven't been able to play online. It's unacceptable that it's still broken on day three after release. Especially after the long BETA.

I finally got to play the MP for a couple of hours. It is great, it's fun and the graphics are awesome. There are a few bugs that need to be ironed out but otherwise its quite fun. I was playing on a hardcore server the longest and it was great.

I love how once again an other company has split the community with an unneeded and noobery which is hardcore mode. -

I like realism, and that is far from realistic.
If I whip out a shotgun at point blank range and can't kill you in one (or even 2 shots in some cases), then there is something wrong with the damage.
Don't call someone a noob if they play HC, maybe your the noob if you hate HC because you die constantly because it only takes a couple of shots to kill you. -
Do you know what is Hardcore servers?? -

In single player, does the AI do the same thing everytime? For instance if you reach a part of the map twice (say you died or something) does the AI do the exact same thing OVER and OVER again? Or is it varied and give you a multiplayer feel even though it is a linear campaign? I really appreciate your feedback!
Thanks,
