    Hey guys,

I recently purchased an ASUS a8js with windows vista premium. I have downloaded the video driver from the website, and proceeded to install FEAR.

The game runs quite bad, and is chuggy to the extent that is it unplyable. I have noticed this "chuginess" even in Titan Quest. I hae checked my power settings and they are on max peroformance.

How do you guys with the Nvidia 7700 run the game? Is there anything I can do?

    I have 1GB of ram, and a 2.0ghz, core 2 duo.

    any help would be appreciated!

you can't run fear on max settings on your go7700, unless you scale down the resolution a little bit, on what resolution are you running?

1024 x 768 ive set most options to medium...the annoying lag i was talking abt also persisits in games such as oblivion and as mentioned above titan quest. not as bad as fear, but enuf to be noticed.

edit - downloaded the demo for fear extraction point (expansion) and it ran superbly.

turn off the velometric lighting option, this would improve performance greatly, and if you still get slowdown try turning off the AA or set it to 2x instead of 4X, this should do it

    allright will do thank you!

also about titan quest..i was running at 1024 x 768 with all options set high. If I reduced these options to medium and only set the texture detail on high that annoying stuttering dissapears.

I guess, I had wayyy too high expectations of the 7700, so you must excuse me.

edit - i tried what you said and turned a whole lot more down but it still continues to lag.

I even ran a "test" with my desired settings and the average fps was 67, however for some reason IN GAME it lags like hell!

Be sure to turn off the blended shadows option...it looks like it drops 2 sets of shadows and really slows down the game. That was the option that made the difference from unplayable to 30fps for me. Maybe lower the shadow quality too but for a game like FEAR you gotta have'em somehow.

I have turned all my settings to minimum and run at 1024 x 768 and it runs allright. I will install the latest updates for FEAR and see if this makes a difference.

I think its a compatability issue with Windows Vista.

In the future when you have installed any new games, always install the latest patch for it before actually playing it. When PC game is released it always, has somekind of issues or bugs in it's release version atleast on some system configurations. Try to remember that. Updating is really a procedure, which every PC gamer should internalize, before starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the system.
