My 8800m died about 2 months ago, I got another one ordered back to my home in the UK via ebay.

I don't know if this is coincidence, but its not being detected.

I slot it, nothing comes up in device manager, same as my old gpu.

Could they both be totally dead or do I need to install some nvidia chipset driver.

GPU driver just comes up with an error saying installation cannot continue because there is no hardware installed in your system to carry on with the setup.

Any ideas? The intel integrated gpu works just fine.

Is the 8800 you got from ebay pulled from another Alienware? Because it's from another manufacturer (e.g. Clevo) it may be a vBios issue.

Nope, I reckon I was either sold a over cuddled card, or there is something wrong with the pci slot on my mobo.

Its a pretty tough one to test. Esp when it comes to notebooks.

Thanks for the input. I'll just keep reading around and see what I find.

    Cheers anyway.

Thats a pretty handy document, thing is, does Dell fall responsible for Alienware? and also, I can't find the service tag number for my laptop, I think it may have been on the sticker underneath where the battery sits.

If thats the case, the heat unglued the sucker and for the life of me cannot remember where I put it.

I think I'll give that number a ring tomorrow and see what they have to say.

    Cheers for the post.

Won't effect your 8800 I'm afraid as it was based on the G92 core, which never had the issue if memory serves, still a high failure rate but not the bad solder.
