So I have a weird issue with Batman AA on my g72 laptop. I have to have physx enabled in the game's settings or else the game will randomly freeze - it tends to freeze 10+ minutes in whenever I throw the batarang.

I have to have it set to at least the normal setting in order to play. The reason I don't like this, is that I prefer to play at ~60 fps. I tried disabling physx in the Nvidia control panel and then disabling it in the game but it didn't stop the crashing. I have also tried lowering all game settings and tried multiple drivers and physx versions. I also experience this issue in the demo version. Any ideas?

There are three settings for PhysX in the game, disabled, medium, and high.

I could never get it to work with PhysX on high (it crashes after the first cutscene, and game saves don't load past that).

I assume you're using the v1.1 patch, since that patch brings all the PhysX features. Have you tried reinstalling and playing without the patch? Have you been setting PhysX on medium or high? You can change PhysX level through a .ini file in the game directory, if the game menu won't let you (there are instructions online, since the menu option doesn't come up for some people).

Incidentally, it's probably the buggiest game I've ever played. It constantly had about a 50% chance to crash to windows every time I died or tried to load a save. I had to install three times to avoid a weird door glitch that prevented me from getting past the first level. And browsing internet forums reveals tons of other strange, game-breaking bugs users have run into. A real shame, since it's one of the best action games of the past few years.

i think this is all because of the 1.1 patch and phsysix.
i read in some forums that the game was ultra stable in the version previous to 1.1.
if you dont want physix then my suggestion is to reinstall it in the 1.0 original version.

Thanks guys. I will try the 1.0 version of the game.

Edit: Unfortunately 1.0 still freezes a bit into the game when I throw a batarang. I've tried uninstalling the realtek drivers because they are a known issue but so far no luck :(

Good luck finding a solution, hopefully because it does it to me to, so you are not alone.

Just replayed through it again after about 3 months, and it froze 2 maybe 3 times on me through the whole game. Real pain because I couldn't alt-tab out of the game.

Well I found the solution. Batman does not play well with my OC'd gpu. Which is kinda weird since all my other games play just fine.

really? what driver version are you using?
ive never had trouble with batman even on o/c. i have stuck with 1.0 though because of stability issues others were having with 1.1
i also use 186.81 drivers and they work great with almost all my games

With GPU overclocks on my previous GTX 260M, I have had games that functioned perfectly but Arkham Asylum was one that always crashed.

Well the 260m was underclocked and undervolted to 0.95 by Asus. When I overclocked it back to stock settings I did not mod the bios back to 1.00 V, which I guess can cause some instability issues in a few games.
