Hey guys I was wondering what you think would be better for gaming, high or medium settings on RPG's and racing games. Ultra would be awesome but I'm not fussed.
The GT555M is 2GB and the GT650M is 1GB. Would the processor affect this? The RAM would be 8GB @ 1600MHZ.
Thanks

go for what the clueless guy said, 650m without a doubt. if its between a m14x r1 and r2, always the latter

I'm looking at a Clevo re-brand.

A gt 650m gddr5 beats the gtx 560m and the 650m takes similar power to the 555m.

650M hands down.
My new laptop has just arrived today with a DDR3 650M. I am going to post the benchmarks I have been carrying out tomorrow. Safe to say they are extremely impressive, even if it is just a DDR3 version. Samsung have provided it with a generic 295.55 driver which isn't optimised for Kepler and it shows by strange glitches I am getting in a few games. Once official supported drivers are released performance and stability are guaranteed to improve. My first impressions of Kepler summed up in one word: AMAZING
Your 650M will have GDDR5 and so be even faster than my 650M! -
Thanks -
Was just having a mooch around on the Sony website and customised a Vaio for a pretty decent price, £800. Anyone know what the AMD Radeon HD 7650M 2GB is like? It would be running a Intel® CoreTM i7-3612QM,2.1GHz with 8GB RAM

Much worse GT 650M. Should have around the same performance as GT 540M, half the performance of GT 650M if not less
Here you have roughly about how the 7650M will perform

VAIO have always been overpriced. It`s like Apple, mediocre hardware at high cost

I had an old one from around 2007/8 I think and the only thing I can say that deserved the price tag was the screen. Very good for 5 years ago

Point me towards a good package like the vaio S13, from any OEM out there. There is no notebook that have all that it has.
The S15, before SE, they were one of the lightest and still packing power, not to mention quite thin, 15'' laptops out there.
Vaio Z, nothing comes close to it.
Now if you go for the E series and so forth, you are going to get less quality and design but with a price that matches the other OEMs out there. -
I have just ran 3DMark11 on the 650M and got a result of P2308. This was with an 'unapproved' driver (295.55). I expect official 30x.xx drivers to perform better.
-
Any chance you can break that down into a simplified form? -
It's basically a powerful card for mid resolution gaming. It should have no problem keeping up with current games and skyrim should perform on high/ultra at 30fps or more easily.
These GPUs are basically on par with 560m/HD5870m even for DDR3 versions, provided resolutions are not insane haha.
If you want to compare, check my 3dmark11 score for my HD5870m. I can play Skyrim ultra at 1920x1080 at around 50fps. -
Much love my friend
thanks for the help

Hey guys, any idea how a 2GB GT640M would run?
-
Benchmarks (note that in these it is paired with ultra-low power CPU which is holding it back somewhat)
Between the 555M and 650M. About same speed as 555M in DX9 games but significantly faster in DX10 and especially DX11 games. Again those benchmarks are based on a 640M which is paired with low-clocked ultra-low voltage CPU which is the bottleneck and holding the 640M back. Paired with a faster CPU it will be a bit faster. -

As promised, benchmarks of the 650M

Thx for benchmarks this is good comparison. Before buying Clevo I thought of buying Alienware m11X with 555gt in. Finally i went customized clevo
This damn crappy 555gt...
