that looks really cool! and free too.
the models look exactly like team fortress... -
I'm not a fan of the cartoon look. If the gameplay is good I'll check it out.
-
If it retains that classic battlefield gameplay I'm all for it!
I also wonder whether or not they will have a more realistic battlefield based off of the console game Battlefield: Bad Company, would seem like an odd choice if they didn't. -
the only thing good going for this game is that its free, i play battlefield games because of the reality (you can argue this in your spare time) .. going to cartoon, i'll jus load up tf2
-
you can always count on EA to ride high on others recent success.
-
First I thought "They can't be serious", but updating BF1942 and making TF2 like can't be that bad. Most of the great successes were copied anyways.
-
I can't believe that EA makes FREE content...anyway who cares if it's cartoonish?sure it will be optimized and less performance demanding...and it's free
-
From my experience, especially with EA, nothing is free. You will pay one way or another... With this you will pay for upgrading weapons and such, maybe even rank....
-
I totally agree
+1 -
Maybe they'll make some ingame advertisement of their games

I'm sure that's no mistake. -
spyware FTL...
Im a big bf2 fan and stop playing it because it was still buggy after all those patches. If they can make this game run smooth and runs well then im all for it, but seeing as it is free ill doubt it. -
Somebody is jumping the TF2 bandwagon
But if it's free, so why the hell not. BF series are good games anyway, so maybe Dice can bring something new exciting into this.

It will be paid for by ingame ads and "micro-transactions." MT's are small payments like, for example, $1 for a new sniper rife.
From the press release:
Battlefield Heroes is leading EA's new web-focused free to download, free to play business model which generates revenue through advertising and micro-transactions. With zero barriers to entry, now anyone can be a hero on the battlefield!

In that case they can drop dead
I'd rather pay full price and enjoy the game, than get annoyed every time I level up and have to pay "only" $1 to get a new item/gun/whatever.

Especially if you have to reinstall, unless it's stored on their server. Which means you still need an internet connection to play.
I really don't like the direction game companies are going these days. -

This game may be free, but expect lots of in-game advertising...
I read that this game is supposed to be a 'cut down' version of the BF series and the game play is designed to last 10-15 mins each time. This is apparently used because EA wanted to appeal to a wider audience. Ref -
Free from EA? I knew there would be a catch.
Why charge $40 or $50 for a game, when you could probably make $80 or $100 or more from upgrades, plus in-game advertising.
-
Not so bad.
Free to download, and $1 upgrades? If you keep an account online, then I'm sure it will be an instant click and go.
I'm curious how this will turn out. But if its not to the massive scale of the current Battlefield 2 maps, then forget it. I can't stand the small maps of TF2 as it is. -
* Battlefield Heroes is a brand new Play 4 Free game from the people that brought you the multi-million selling Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2
* It's a fun cartoon-style shooter which caters to players of all skill levels easy to pick up and play, but with deep character development
* It will be released for the PC as a free download in Summer 2008
Uh... yea it should be free to play. -
I read some report somewhere which states that EA did something like this in Korea a few years back, releasing a free version of FIFA. It has approx. 5 million players, which generates 1 million in revenue for them. Out of this, only a small percentage are people who buy stuff.
-
For the casual gamer, who plays only once and a while, this will be good, but for the hardcore gamer, to compete in online gameplay, you would be almost forced to upgrade weapons as others do, or you'll be at a disadvantage... I guess it wouldn't be too bad if the prices are reasonable.
-
Sound like war rock with cartoony graphics.
And war rock sucks because of the pay to get decent weapons aspect. -
No, War Rock sucks because it is just a terrible game. And, like others... looks just like TF2.
-
Am I the only that doesn't like TF2?
-
you're not alone. it's fun but it gets old pretty quick. it doesn't have the lasting appeal like TFC did back in the day.
-
Is this like a cartoonish WWII FPS? Or a Modern Warfare (more like BF2)? It probably won't be WWII but it would be funny seeing cartoon allies/axis soldiers lol xD. hehe!
-
Judging from the thompson and sherman... it should be WWII fps.
