I bought the Battlefield 1942: The Complete Collection which includes:

    Battlefield 1942
Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome
Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII
    Battlefield Vietnam

Which of these are played the most and is there any benefit to installing or not installing any of the others? The reason I ask is because I plan on installing to play on my Eee which has limited storage (16GB SDHC card). I did install Battlefield 1942 at one point, but just did a reformat and don't want to spend all the time installing (it can be slow) and wasting space if the others aren't played online much.

I know 1942 is still popular, but the others, not so sure.

vietnam is the best but your by no means going to be play that well (if at all) on an eee pc. try 1942, but i doubt it. you cant install the expansions for 1942 with out intstalling 1942 first.

I would go for Vietnam since I think there will probably be more servers

Don't install Secret Weapons, the only reason people played that expansion was the jetpack

Lethal Lottery - FYI, 1942 plays fine on the Eee. So does Joint Operations :) Pretty much anything released pre 2004 works great.

I just didn't want to add a bunch more stuff on there if they weren't going to be useful. Maybe I'll add Vietnam on there.

1942 would work fine, I'd imagine Vietnam would also work OK, though bringing the CPU up to the 900mhz mark would help out.

I prefer Vietnam as a game; 1942 was great, but I didn't like it when I went back lately. It's not much fun to play, feels clunky and unresponsive.

1942 with the Desert Combat mod... if I remember right, there are 2, Desert Combat, and DC Final. Get a stick and learn to fly the helicopters, you'll like it.

Always bump up to 900MHz when gaming. From benchmarks and other comments, it seems the 900MHz Celeron is roughly equivalent to a 1.5 or 1.6 GHz original Pentium 4

I stopped playing vietnam 4 months ago caus there is a very limited server count. Install 1942 and then mods Desert combat, desert combat final and Forgotten Hope for the most fun.

Desert Combat and DC final are the same mod but dc final is like the name imply, the final version. Anyway I somehow find the helicopters in dc more stable and easier to fly than the one in bf2 even without the hud... And the ac-130 is a pleasure to use if the crew do what it's supposed :D I wonder why it's not in bf2.

Well for the games I'd be trying to run on it, I reckon the 630mhz would be fine, being probably, as I guessed, about equivilent to a 1Ghz P3. Games that require the extra speed also probably require extra T&L calculations for the GMA that would place extra strain on the cpu, which in turn equals choppy performance...

Think I saw you posting on an eee-pc forum incidentally!

first on my list: Call of Duty, Medal of Honor...

I've gone online in BF1942 a few times in the past year and there always have been plenty of servers (though not necessarily many for Road to Rome/Secret Weapons). Haven't tried Vietnam online, in my experience 1942 was a much better game. More fun, and ran better on my old system. Shorter load times, too, and much farther view distance. Always bugged me that in Vietnam the snipers were hardly more effective than AK-47's at range due to fog of war.

I'm not sure why you'd want to play it on an EEE PC instead of the Vostro in your sig, though. Sure it's more portable, but isn't the screen a bit small? And even with BF1942 I think you'd get better performance from the Vostro.

I play on Eee because I can take it to work and play on my lunch hour. It fits nicely in my work bag along with all my other crap that I take with me everywhere (a man purse I guess).

What version of Desert Combat mod should I play? It looks like there's several beta versions.
