BF 2 and 2142 do not support widescreen resolutions, due to EA thinking its "cheating." What have any of you done to resolve these types of issues? I'm running Vista and am not sure how to adjust the resolution. Can someone give me step by step instructions to make my new notebook have two black rectangles on the sides of my screen so I can play :p ?

easy. nvidia control panel: find the scaling option and set it to "do not scale"

that will create the black bars. just make sure your screen's vertical resolution matches the resolution of the game- or else you will have 4 black bars.

otherwise, the image will be interpolated to fit your screen.

as an alternative, you can enable native widescreen custom resolutions, that are full screen, not interpolated, but have the same horizontal FOV as the 4:3 resolutions. i think they manage this by chopping off some of your vertical view? i dont remember exactly, but it doesn't look stretched and its not cheating.

google wide screen gaming and find battlefield.

under the nvidia control panel "change flat panel scaling," the options under "when using a resolution lower than my displays native res..." (which include "do not scale") are all grayed out. "Use nvidia scaling" is the default selection, but can be changed. How do I fix it?

no need to do the Nvidia Scale stuff....

Both BF2 and BF2142 support widescreens fine.

Just go to www.tweakguides.com for the configs.

well, there are ways you can make them go widescreen, but punkbuster immediately kicks you if you go on multiplayer. I really would like to just get the two big black rectangles...

To set a custom resolution for BF2142, change your command line to look similar to this:

    "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

Note the addition of the +szx and +szy commands which respectively set the width and height of the custom resolution to be used. Substitute other values for other resolutions (e.g. +szx 1900 +szy 1200).

    Like This: :D

Works perfect for BF2 and BF2142.

I feel sorry for those that play stretch, non-native resolutions, or aspect scaling.... why have a nice widescreen, if you are not going to game with it.

I have played BF2 since it first came out using the command line that Gophn describes without any problems. I do believe though that it does cut off your FOV, kind of as if you were staring through a horizontal slit in one of those steel doors that lead to a private club / party as if you were the bouncer (I can see it now... "Whats the password?!", haha)

If you have Vista you can try running it as administrator....happened to me if I don't run it as administrator in F.E.A.R....they would kick me out.

even if you set a custom resolution for battlefield 2, you aren't REALLY playing widescreen. its basically a stretch. you are rendering the full detail of whatever custom res you set, but your field of view is still constricted to the standard 4:3 field of view.

i think the OP wants to make the screen as large as possible without distorting the field of view.

Ok, here are some WUXGA native 1920x1200 screenshots.

As you can see no stretches on the weapons, maps, crosshairs, etc...

    Sweet... :D

    [IMG] [IMG]

Now thats how you game... widescreen and native... no lame stretch or aspect lock BS.

i was mistaken. it cuts off the top and bottom of the 4:3 image to give you the appearance of a wide screen image. if you play that way you actually have a narrower vertical FOV and an equal horizontal FOV... for whatever thats worth.

if you have a 1920x1200 monitor, and you play full screen, it is just displaying a center cut out of a 4:3 1920x1440 display.

    your FOV IS LOCKED.

you can play with native widescreen, but you will reduce your vertical view.

BF series does not support proper widescreen, you can change your resolution to match the native of your display to simulate widescreen but you cut the top and bottom of your screen off. I still played this way and found that it did not handicap me enought to cry about, I was always one of the top players and when you play on a 37" screen like me thats alot of screen to lose if I play letterboxed in 4:3.

We had a hack long ago for BF2 that should also work for 2142 to get REAL widescreen but you can not use it online because punkbuster detects it as a hack and will kick you.

If your really interested you can hunt around widescreengamingforum.com and find that I have like 3 whole topics on these two games, including MANY screenshots with different settings photoshoped to show the screen differences and my petition to EA to let us have real widescreen. They say its an unfair advantage as there official response and thus why they did not support it.

You registered just to say that?

I've played BF2 with all settings on HIGH and 6x AA @ 1920X1200. Looks pretty good and the sound is amazing with the Ultra High setting enabled. :D

Exactly. What do you expect from a three year old game? Yes graphics are antiquated, but the game is still a blast.

I think game consoles have ruined the true gaming experience any more, it's all about visual effects.

hi i seem to be having problems with my notebook to LCD monitor settings.

my notebook resolution is on 1280x800. My LCD monitor is 1440x900. I can't remember my 2142 video setting but i think it is at 1042x. Everytime I tried playing, I get alot of lag and slow response time. My ping is at 10 FPS so I don't think it is due to that.

Does anyone know what settings I should use?

What GPU do you have? (Graphic Card)

This "delay" you have is probably because your computer is not strong enough to handle the in game settings.

*EDIT* Nirvana is quick... like a cat...

Not sure if it was said since I skipped right to page 3 but BF2142 DOES support widescreen natively as of the latest patch.

    BF2 still does not.

You can however still manually force a wide screen resolution and have it crop the top and bottom of the screen off, and you wont really notice, I still always was in the top 5 so it doesn't effect your playability.

I did post a thread on it and how to do it so search it up.
