The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Call of Duty 4 for sure. The realism is just there for cod4 and is on another complete level. Yeah I do miss vehicles when playing COD4 but its not a huge deal. Teamwork and cooperation is more imporant in cod4 than bf2.

I voted the last option.
They're both great, the nice part of the BF 2 series is that you actually get to drive/fly tanks, airplanes, and choppers and the maps are much much bigger, (same thing as BF 2142, except BF 2142 has better running engine).
The COD 4 campaign is amazing with visual details, graphics, plot, and gameplay. The COD 4 multiplayer depends on your type of gaming to be exact.
BF 2 and COD 4 multiplayer are very different in aspects in my opinion. -
Thanks fro the insightfully comments; much appreciated!
-
BF2 had a sp? lol, I didn't even know.

I'm glad this thread is helping other out as well!

Please do not start a flame war in this thread, if you have something constructive to add, then please do, otherwise, just move along, thanks!

I dont know why anyone would sat BF2's single player is better then CoD4's though... Its basically the same as playing in a multiplayer match full of people who dont know how to play. -

COD4 is superior to BF2 and believe me I've been playing BF2 since it first came out.
-
I recently bought these two very games!!
And I'll have to say this: Call of Duty 4 by far has the best single player story-line and game play - it's like participating in a movie. Battlefield 2 does not have a story line; it's just multiplayer maps with bots playing instead.
I've played multiplayer on both, and Battlefield 2 takes the prize for that though - it has much more variation. CoD4 seems a bit more "dull" for me.
Well, I heard a Battlefield 3 may come out at the end of next year .... that game will be awesome. -
Thank you all again so much for the great and informative replies!
I've got a new HP 8510p on the way, will it be up to the task of playing these games well? -
the 8510p can run bf2 at 1680x1050 All on High, no AA, with just abit of lag. it is as fast as my 6800 ultra
-
I retired from BF2. I played that game way too much and I decided that COD4 is going to take its place. Plus, COD4 runs way smoother than BF2, it does not take much to run it. Also, with all of those patches EA gives us for BF2 that game still feels like a beta...
-
As always, I really appreciate everyone's input on this, you are all helping me out sooooo much, thanks!
-
i dont see how a cod game could REPLACE a bf series games ;\ they are so different -
BigBoy you're a moron, refrain from posting on this site please?
Voted cod4 because it's better suited for competitive play and i've always enjoyed the gameplay of the cod series -

BF2 is sort of fun but the action is rather unintense and comes in waves.
In COD4 the action is intense and constant.
Plus is COD4 you can play the way you want and still be good. You can use the MP5 combo and raid a building with sights up, or use the M16 and get into long range outdoor battles, its just very dynamic and cool, although it still needs some heavy tweaking. -
OK, at this point the majority, and most of the more experienced gamers I know of here all favor COD4 over BF2, but I've also heard a lot of good things about BF2 in general, so my question is this, would you recommend just getting both, is it worth it?
-
Yeah they're both good and I'll definitely be playing the BF2 multiplayer maps soon lol. But if you want to get only one, probably better to get CoD4 first.
-
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
In summary: Just get get COD 4 MW.
-
I have both games and here are my opinions.
Battlefield 2 is multiplayer only where as Call of Duty 4 has a single player and multiplayer so you could argue that it offers more which it does. However the multiplayer modes in BF2 are simply amazing, vehicles, jets where as in CoD 4 you get an intense infantry experience.
BF2 is more open in the sense you are free to mess around and experience with different things like planting c4 on your buggies then blowing them up while your going for a jump to get increases momentum at the expense of dying. Where as in CoD4 you really have to focus on the combat, which gives you a proper sense of war's intensity.
Then you also have graphics, BF2 was good looking back when it was released, but honestly when I play it now it looks crap to me, CoD4 however looks amazing.
No game has been able to overthrow CoD 4 when it comes to intense firefights that leave you satisfied, similarly I don't think there has been a game which has beaten the open ended multiplayer aspect of BF2.
Comparing multiplayer modes CoD4 has more variety than BF2. Leveling up in BF2 takes a lot more points than in CoD 4 which can be quite frustrating, also In BF2 you only get new primary weapons as rewards for gaining ranks where as in CoD 4 you get perks, weapon colors, attachments, weapons both primary and secondary
Anyway if your in a pickle over deciding which one to get I really think you should grab both since BF2 is worth about £8 which isnt a lot.
Personally I prefer Call of Duty 4 but I do enjoy a nice dog fight in Battlefield 2 here and then
However its your decision, demo's for both are available for download so you may want to try them out before.
Hope this helped -
Yeah, that helps a lot, thanks!
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
You can buy bf2 for like 10 bucks off of amazon.
-
Thanks for the heads up on that Forerunner; much appreciated!
-
Anyways, they both are great games and worth having.
swank -
they all have their strong points
-
OK, thanks for the input swank!
I didn't know about BF2142, so should I just go for BF2142 instead of BF2? -
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
I would go with Battlefield 2142 over BF 2. The game engine is smoother, slightly better graphics, and you will have a variety of types of games.
COD 4 is associated with modern combat. Why buy a game associated with more modern combat..You'll get bored easily.
How about getting 2142, for futuristic warfare!>=D
-
There is nothing more satisfying than playing in a squad with a good squadleader and members that works together to get the job done.
If I had to choose 2 games I would go for BF2142 and CoD4.
swank -
^ I didn't get BF2142 over BF2 for one main reason - I like games that have a more realistic gameplay to it. The first may have better graphics but BF2 contans games that have guns that should bullets instead of blasts of light.
-
I find BF2142 to be very dull, its all just differnt shades of grey and I hate dull looking games. Also the lack of jets in BF2142 draws me away from it
-
How is the multiplayer character system in COD4? I loved the character "development" in BF2, and I'm wondering if it's similar in cod4. From the reviews it seems kind of similar, but in BF2 there was all the medals/ribbons, weapon unlocks, etc. Just wondering what it's like from someone who's actually played it.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Link in sig.

you dont get ribbons or badges, you go up by ranks only
You gain points and hence ranks by getting kils or completing chalenges. New ranks in turn provide you with weapon unlocks, weapon camuaflage designs, perks, weapon attachements and new challenges.
Challenges help you get extra points and are fun to do, some of them are like M4 marksmen challenge which is to get X amount of kills with that weapon to unlock scope attachement. Destroy cars in the maps to get bonuses, jump from X feeth high, kill X people when crouched....list is endless and they are all very fun to complete.
Perks are also unlocked as you gain progress, perks are just different abilities which help your character out, you can choose 3 perks per class and you can create a total of 5 classes. Perks incluce last stand, where when your killed instead of dieing directly you lay on the ground and pull your pistol out to grab a few kills before dieing, or you have matyrdom which makes you leave a live grenade upon death, or sonic boon which increases explosive weapon damage, again the list goes on and they are all unique and fun to play around with.
Multiplayer stats are locked to your profile and not to a online server so be sure to backup "players" folder in instalation directory if you plan on uninstalling or installing on a different pc and then copy the folder over.
Overall character development as you describe it is much better and deep in cod4 than it is in bf2, you may not get ribbons and pretty badges to look at but you do get a lot more of hands on stuff which in my opinion is better. -
COD 4 is a nice refresh in war game category. The gameplay itself(multiplayer) is insane. No place is safe in those maps. One thing I really like about COD 4 is that first person to shoot has a leg up in the fire fight. I'm really hating the physics of bullet hits to the body in BF2. I mean unless you shoot the guy in the head you dont have a chance. Maybe some people are that good, but I dont see how. Anyways, in COD 4 I find myself that I dont have time to plan at all. Its balls to the wall all the time. The lack of vehicles is a minus, and that's why I'll keep BF2 for now. When Operation Flashpoint 2 comes out I think it will be the end of the BF2 reign. Untill then, BF2 is still the king of its gameplay.
(The AC-130 singleplayer level gives me a grin ear to ear everytime I play it. Very well done, as close as it gets to the real thing) -
i dont even see how you can compare these two games. cod4 is so much newer and A LOT better IMO
-
battlefield 2 is only rated T, so it'll be easier to get than CoD4. Parents. lol.
BF2 is also only $10 on newegg!! what a deal! i'll get this definitely for xmas hopefully. -
OK, so what's with these incompatibilities issues that BF2 has with wide screen resolutions and dual core processors I've been hearing about?
-
-
this is BS!!! pretty much EVERYONE these days uses widescreens!!! i'm still gonna buy it though -
-
Looks like BF3 is in the works, and I'm sure these issues will be remedied.

Battlefield 3 eh? I'd welcome the new engine; this engine is lag-infested. And I mean the engine, not the servers. Soldier appearance customization? Sounds incredible. Of course, we can count of another Call of Duty emerging with even more.
-
COD4 obviously for SP, seeing as BF2 doesn't even have an SP, so a bit of a strange option to include! Unless you count the training mode as a single player campaign...!!
Multiplayer is different in both games, hugely so. So it's not a just comparison, you're comparing different types of game, even if they both are FPS. I'm surprised someone said that teamwork is much more important in COD4 then BF2 - by all accounts, it's far, far, far easier to go rambo in COD4 then it is in BF2!
and yes BF2 doesn't support Widescreen, but neither do several other AAA titles from the same time period. Not a big deal, looks fine scaled to fit. widescreen hacks look crap. -
of course its EASIER to go rambo cuz everythings smaller... that doesnt mean you'll do better. Lets put it this way, if your a counterstrike player, old or new, you WILL become addicted to CoD4. Of course, some people like the bigger gameplay that BF2 has, and that is personal preference. But the customizing options in CoD4 and the medium size map make it Amazing for more close quarters strategy, as opposed to general tactics.

Good post, thanks for the info!

As a previous CS player, I must disagree.
I separate my FPS games into two categories-
The competitive style run-n-gun fest where realism isn't a huge factor. Then theres realism games like America's Army, Insmod, R6 series
In my opinion, the game mechanics of both BF2 and COD4 make them competitive made-for-gameplay games. For some reason, COD4 just seems like another typical first person shooter game to me. Nothing in the game is especially in-depth. It just seems so generic to me. BF2, however, has much more variety and the ability to play on so many levels. Infantry, inf and surface vehicles, and aircraft. The ability to play with 63 other players is also great.
I'm not a single player guy, so I really don't like either single players. The BF2 one is just boring, and the COD4 one, although much better than most, just feels so... synthetic. A constant stream of respawning enemies just doesn't appeal to me. I like games where you're just as vulnerable as the enemy. You should be put at a tactical advantage, not a power advantage.
