Hello, i have finally purchased a laptop that can play these games, and i'm wondering if vista will support them.
I have tried the demos, and they do not work on my machine. But things like counterstrike: source, Half Life 2, and Call of Duty 2 work fine. So i'm wondering if i can go out and buy the game, and if it doesn't work, i can just return it.
Sound like something you would do?![]()

they work. but I had to turn a lot of stuff off (vista security crap) to get it to work
-
what did you have to turn off? do you remember?
-
Your best bet would be dual booting vista and XP, using XP for games, but if that really isnt an option expect about 10 - 15 frames less in vista than u would get in XP.
My assumption is the 'security crap' andrew was reffering to would be:
-windows defender
-user account control (the popups windows executes to verify running a program with admin privaleges)
-setting the games to run with admin privaleges (prolly the most important one, punkbuster will boot you out if you dont, unless thats been fixed since the last time i played in vista)
-you could try disabling automatic updates while playing as well
-turning off aero glass if its on and turning off the sidebar should also be done for optimal performance.
with all of that done 2142 ran pretty choppy on my Sager 5720 on vista. I couldnt take it anymore so i dual booted. Maybe some GPU drivers and other updates have been released since that will help you though, I wish you luck.

i have a sager 5760 (specs in sig) and i can turn bf2142 on max graphics and it runs smooth on vista 64bit haven't ran into any problems yet...cept for punkbuster but thats not vistas fault

max res is 1600x1200 I believe.
@OP: Bf2142 works with Vista with no problem, be sure to manually upgrade punkbuster (main cause for getting dc in multiplayer games). Also you need to run BF2142 as Administrator so punkbuster services can run or you can't play online.
You can set the Run As Administrator in the Compatability menu of the shortcut. Or you could turn off AUC and a bunch of other security things. -

I installed Bf2142 on Vista Ultimate X64 yesterday.
No issues really, EA link downloaded and installed no issues, then downloaded the game and patches in about 20 min, they all installed no issues.
I started up the game and played, first game seemed laggy and I figured it was vista x64 and that indeed there were some performance issues. I left that sever and went to another one and everything was fine.
I think I notice a small performance hit but nothing super major, I was already playing the game at settings incredibly high for my system.
1920x1080 everything max except AA only at 2x (default)
I noticed the score board after a match is not drawn correctly eather.
I did some research and think I can fix this by turning off the desktop deal on the compatabilty tab when I boot 2142, that also may get rid of that very small performance hit that I think is there.
I say think because I have not confirmed it, the drawFps 1 command is not working for me to test my average fps, so I have to get fraps installed.
There is one more thing to note, Im comparing this to my XP install of the game, but last time I played BF2142 on XP I was using hardware sound rendering with my X-Fi soundcard. Last week I broke my X-fi when I was soldering on some new opamps. So im now using my onboard audio and using software rendering.
Its a well known fact that this uses some cpu resorces, and given bf2142s pretty poor coding, I wouldnt be supprised if thats the cause of my supposed decrease in frame rate and not vista at all.
Im going to do more testing today with various tweaks and try the diffrent compatability modes and see if anything changes. I'll insall FRAPS and do a fps check and swich over to my XP boot and see if my performance is the same or better.
Note that this is x64 Vista Ultimate, BF2142 hates x64if you are using the x86 vista you should have even less issues and have no problems with it hopefully.

the biggest problem I had trying to get my friends computer to run it was that punkbuster was having problems with vista. there are 2 programs that punkbuster has to run for the game to work and in vista it would only run 1 until a patch for punkbuster came out. so that issue should be resolved now. -

As of what others said, I agree, MANUALLY download the punkbuster for the 2142 & 2. And run on administrator for vista

anybody else have some scoreboard corruption after a round is over, you can see everything fine but the board itself is missing most of the background.
Im going to mess with it later and see if turning off the aero stuff in compatabilty mode fixes it. -
i have a toshiba runing with a 1.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor, 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB RAM Intel 4965 AGN wireless LAN connects to draft 802.11n routers (as well as 802.11a/b/g); Intel GMA 950 video card ,Windows Vista Home Premium (with Media Center capabilities.

Would battlefield 2142 work?

hi all - i have a question concerning my new laptop and being able to play bf2. I HAD until about a month ago an alienware area-51 with 2 gigs ram, vista, go 7600, fast hard drive... yet when i installed the game - it ran just fine. but then when i tried to play it on multiplayer - i would click to logon to the servers and it would just crash
i called EA and they just told me the typical this game is not supported with vista in mind and to just wait for a patch or something.
well the alienware malfunctioned and i demanded a refund in which i got. so i shopped around and found the hp pavillion 9500 customized laptop. it has a T7500 2.2 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, 2 gigs of ram, geforce 8600M GS video card, 120 gb 7400 rpm hd, windows vista home premium.
can anyone, with a very good certainty be able to tell me if i will be able to play this game on my system? i have no idea what was up with not being able to join multiplayer games - and the only explanation they could give me is that not all systems with vista.laptops will play the game although some will. luckily i was able to return the game at walmart, but i know i will not have that luck again. i just want to make sure this game will run fine on multiplayer so if i buy it i wont be throwing away my money.
can i play my laptop with this game on multiplayer? is gamespy stopping me from being able to do so since it does not support vista as of yet i heard? someone please help me so i can go out tomarrow and buy this game if i can play it online. THANKS?! -

BF2 and BF2142 require a dedicated/discrete graphics card, whereas yours in an intergrated GMA 950. The games detect your graphics card before launching and will refuse to launch, so even if you could manage in on ultra low settings, the games prevent you from even entering the game.

i was wondering if these specs could run battlefield 2142 on Max Settings
Core 2 DUO 2.00GHz Processor
4GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT Express with 512MB Video Memory
on Windows Vista Home Premium -
They work fine for me but battlfield 2 plays and looks like skata (crap) but the 2142 demo plays fine
-
I can't get the demo for 2142 working on Vista. Is it because the demo isn't patched for Vista? or is it my hardware?
VGN-NR110E Vaio
X3100 -
most likely the demo. bf2 demo didnt work for me but the game runs perfect.
-
This is what happens when I load the 2142 demo on Vista:
I tried "Run As Administrator" and "Windows XP SP2" compatiblity mode and turned off UAC.
I tried the demo for BF2 and when it loads it just crashes back to desktop with no notifications. -
Battlefield 2 and 2142 will work fine on Vista. I notice a great deal of performance drop with BF2 under Windows Vista over Windows XP Pro. I can manage all high at 1280x800 with AA x4, but in order to achieve 40+ FPS I'm forced to have textures set to medium. Now I've tried both BF2 and BF2142 on Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and at present time I’m running them fine on Windows Vista Ultimate 64 without any issues. As I said before, you'll notice quite a performance drop in both of those games on Vista over XP, but they will most certainly run on Vista (depending on your system spec's as well).
Now hers what you will experience and will need to do while installing both games on a Vista machine:
While installing BF2/2142 you will recive a warrning message from Battlefield telling you that the game has not been tested for operating system, and may not work correctly; don't mind the message and continue as you were. Now afther the installation you need to right click on the BF2/2142 icon, go to properties and under compatibility tab checkmark "Run this program as an Administrator".
Such as this:
Other performace tips which some have been mentioned before include:
- Changing Windows theme from Aero to Windows Basic while playing both games
- Closing Sidebar
- You might experience stutter while playing some Battlefield mods such as Project Reality under Vista even with a very capable system. To fix this issue you might need to change texture settings to medium while everything could be kept to you desired settings
