The highest resolution I see is 1280 x 1024 but my notebook has a WSXGA screen and I've run other games in 1680x1050.

I searched around and found that I have to input the following line in the target line of the shortcut icon:

    +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

But when I start the game, nothing happens and it still shows the resolution as 1280 x 1024. How do I fix this?

Battlefield 2 goes up to 1400 x 1050 for my computer, same WSXGA+ 1680x1050 native res, no idea on yours. Update drivers maybe?

    When I try 1440 x 1050 or even 1400 x 900, BF2 won't even start.

800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200 are the only supported resolutions I believe. There are ways to get widescreen but they don't work so well, basically it just stretches the image to fit the screen.

DICE released a statement some time ago that they'll be releasing a last patch to Battlefield 2 which I'm guessing like Battlefield 2142 it'll allow widescreen resolutions through the game options.

Does anyone know how to check which version of Battlefield 2 I have by the way? Maybe I should update to the latest patch.

It should be visible somewhere on the bottom left/right corner of the main menu screen when you log-in.

MrPresident, here's what I use on my M860TU...

    +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +restart 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 +playerName A_Grounded_Pilot +playerPassword myPW

You can leave off the +modPath part if you're just playing vanilla BF2, and obviously change the name and pw to yours. Works well for me. The game will still say that it is displaying at 1280x1024 in the graphics options screen, but it's actually running at 1680x1050. What drivers are you using? I've been looking for ones from lv2go that don't stutter, but I haven't had any luck so far. Every game is smooth as can be except BF2. It looks like network lag, but isn't. Do you experience that?

    NP8660, 9800M GT, P9500, no OCs.

Edit- the patch that they are talking about is the 1.5 patch that hasn't been released yet, but is expected out in a month or two. The current version (as of 8 Jan 09) is 1.4.

It works, but the HUD is just a little stretched. Everything else looks great. I did have some wacky stuff going on with the screen text, though. It got quite garbled sometimes.

Yeah Widescreen fixer essentially just zooms your view out a bit. You gain some width, but loose some depth. On this tiny 15" screen, I deal with the small amount of stretching rather than having distant objects be rendered even smaller.

When BF2142 added the offical patch it was great. Still not true widescreen. It was a zoom & crop but better than nothing.

BF2 I think still has no offical patch. If you use one of our user patches it may no let you play online as punkbuster may see it as a hack.

Man 2142 I have not played that in so long, good days. BF2 was great too but I liked 2142 better after I got used to it.

Here's the direct link to the BF2/BF2142 widescreen fixer page. You don't have to worry about playing online, it is allowed by punkbuster.

Not to hijack, but rather than starting a new thread about an old game, what video driver is everyone using for BF2 on newer hardware? It stutters like crazy for me. I've tried the new official nvidia mobile drivers, the stock Clevo drivers, DOX 181.0, DOX 185.20, etc. No luck fixing it. Crysis and COD 4 run like butter. Any ideas?

Will they then focus on delivering a brand new game for us? Not BF:BC

    Bump.

Does anyone play BF2 on a 8800M GTX / 9800M GT smoothly? What drivers are you using? Does anyone still play BF2? lol

I play it pretty smoothly on a desktop 8800GTS. Haven't tried it on a notebook GPU. How does the 8800GTS compare to the 8800M GTX?

8800gts 320 is on par with 8800m gtx
8800gts 512 beats everything. the closest card is fx3700m with 128 shaders.

What drivers are you using roughman? My fps is fine (60-100 maxed out), what I am experiencing looks like network lag, but my ping is below 100 on the servers I play on. Any ideas?

    Using Vista?

I have one strange ping/latency trick you can try that messed me up long ago and its a hard fix to find as the problem itself is hard to find.

    Disable Network Auto Tuning:
