Hey all I haven't played bf2 on Vista in a long time but tried recently and its crashing at the end of loading a game (just before it gets in the game). Its patched to 1.41 and I tried to run the exe in windows XP SP2 compatibility mode as well and that didn't work.

This is probably the refresh rate issue. See here

I didn't realize BF2 had any issues with refresh rates, but I can say the game is pretty fickle and crashed a lot for me at random.

First of all, are you sure that your refresh is set to 60Hz?

Second, try to visit http://www.microsoft.com/directx and update your directx. That has fixed issues for me in the past as well.

IIRC, I had issues with my P-7811FX with Vista x64. Don't recall one specific issue, just a lot of installing using Administrator privileges, and making sure drivers and directx were up to date.

    Also, try going into:

    {USERNAME}\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

and edit video.con and set the following to 800x600@60Hz

    VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz

I believe my settings got screwed up somehow and wouldn't correct until I reset it to this.
