    I am having 2 problems on BF2 which I can't figure out:

    1) It seems I am restricted to 1024x768 when playing BF2 single or multiplayer. Under video options, I am given only two choices. Standard 800x680 (low detail) and 1024x768 (high detail). I can't run any higher than this? The screen's native resolution is 1280x800.

    2) I also tried running BF2 on the Inspiron 1520 with Geforce 8600GT 256MB. Same restrictions to 10x7 resolution. I expected the game to run quicker with a faster GPU but multiplayer is actually slower than my M1330. wth?

Can the difference in CPU speed be that much of a difference? T7500 for the M1330 and T7250 for the 1520.

BF2 has no native widescreen support(2142 doesn't either....DICE/EA is lazy). You'll have to right click your desktop shortcut, and under the shortcut tab where it says target, modify the line to look like this(or copy and paste this in):

    "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 widescreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 800

huh? I never had to do anything extra. when in the options menue for video, there's the resolution where I can pick what I want up to the screen's native resolution. How about try to reinstall BF2?

Sure you never had to do anything extra if you are talking about your Panasonic.... your max res is 1024x768, and not even a widescreen display. For him, he will need to do the cmd line mod to get the res he wants in the game.

After you do this, it will not show in the video options, but will be 1280x800 when you launch the game, the only problem(which nobody has a fix for) is the mini map is stretched, but that's easy to live with once you run at the res you want. You'll notice the difference.

Neither BF2 nor BF2142 have true widescreen as the field of view remains the same.
