Battlefield 2 or Battlefield 2142? I'm looking to get one.

Which is better? I'd be getting all available expansions as well.

 

battlefield 2 is a tad more realistic, battlefield 2142 is a tad more up to date.

a lot of people don't like the prevalent balancing issues in bf2, but battlefield 2142 still seems like a downgrade in fundamental level design for some reason.

taking down the titan is really fun though.

i would go bf 2142, but barely. i would *almost get battlefield 2.

 

I personally like BF2 because its Modern Combat. 2142 is too futureistic for me. Both are great games though. I think BF2 is actually the more favored game now...there are still 3000-5000 servers on 24/7. Its kinda a matter of preference.

 

Etiher or and you'll be happy. Both are different time settings (i.e. present to future) but fall under the same genre. I love BF2142 as that's what I play. I just got BF2 and will eventually get around to installing it. BF2 just had an upgrade so people are back to playing it. For a while, when BF2142 came out, most gravitated from BF2 to it. Now it's full circle again...since BF2 has an upgrade, people want to try it out again.

 

Id have to say theres a bunch of AIMBOT using hackers on both games....which is SOO anoying!! I wish Punkbuster could elmiinate those stupid programs. It just ruins it for us folks who just want to have fun.

 

Overall fun factor BF2 wins.

More serious, more in depth, team work factor then BF2142 wins.

Still, people can't be wrong. There are thousands more players playing BF2 rather than BF2142.

just because more people are playing it doesn't necessarily make it better. a lot of that has to do with system requirements and performance. battlefield 2142 recommends 1.5 gigs of ram. i bet that turns a lot of noses up. most people have 1 gig of ram.

You have a good point. But its easier to find that certain map preference in BF2 because of the larger population playing it. So either way. And i think its funny how so many people are going back to BF2. Theres gotta be a reason other than 1.5 gigs of ram.

i side with bf2142, but i think its close. i would almost recommend bf2, but i lean slightly toward 2142.

the ram thing is just one reason among many.

edit: better idea- just get bf2 and bf2142 and don't waste your money on the expansions. almost no one hosts expansion servers.

The thing with BF2142 is that it gets kinda boring quick, while it may have a whole bunch of unlocks and tools they don't make much a major difference. I would much rather just have all new guns rather than little upgrades or gadgets.

BF2 is faster paced than BF2142 and the RAM thing is no big deal, anyone who has played BF2 for a little while knows that they need at least 2gigs of RAM for the best performance.

With BF2 you can go back game after game and its still fun, especially if you have the expansion and booster packs, it gives you variety while still being familiar.

BF2142 in my eyes was a total failure for EA and DICE even though I still play it. EA and DICE should have kept improving on BF2 which they already had found the winning formula for a modern military multi player FPS.

 

I think of 2142 as the Halo version of BF2. But not at the same caliber of halo.

BF2 definitely. As a huge fan of BF1942, BFV, and BF2, I thought BF2142 was a bunch of balls.

BF2142 is just, too complicated to be much fun.

Heck, my only drive to play BF2142 is to rank up to unlock more of the almost worthless little gadgets and upgrade guns which get boring after a day or two, leading you to want to rank up again to get more of which soon you will be bored of.

P.S. I love playing The Iron Gator map from BF2 SF.

You have to make sure "run as administrator" is checked, and I think that fixes it.

 

Im getting my new laptop soon but never played Battleifed 2. Is it hard to get into as im used to playing Wolfenstein Enemy Terrirotry wheres its really easy to understand.

 

I guess I don't play either game enough to see the difference other then the unlock system. BF2 does have more players and expansions, and BF2142 does kind of seem like just a mod of BF2. Though recently I have found BF2142 to be more fun for whatever reason.

 

Battlefield 2142.

The maps at BF 2 aren't as intense as 2142. Trust me, you'll like 2142 over BF 2.

A LOT of people Grenade spam on BF 2, and there are tons of glitches in the game, which help people cheat. And that's 1 thing I don't like.

Battlefield 2142 is a lot better because the kits are now combined, making things more convenient on the field. Assult is also a medic, engineer is also anti armor/aircraft, support is still supoort, and recon is now sniper and special ops.

BF 2 is too slow for me. 2142 gets you right into the action, and it has the titan mode! excellent way to rank up.

On BF 2, your badges/ribbons DO NOT give any points whatsoever. -_-

As far as cheating...theres quite a bit in 2142 and bf2. So that shouldnt matter. Any PC game will have hackers/cheaters. Combineing units kinda takes away from the individual kits. Its kool at the same time it makes things kinda bland. I think mechs in 2142 is a bit ridiculous.

And I dont think badges giving points or not makes the game more fun. Both have badges. In BF2 you have to rank up twice to recieve an upgrade/weapon. 2142 seems to be faster between ranks to get little gadgets.

Graphics wise...Id like to think 2142 looks better. But I think its because its in the future and certain edges and things have been cleaned up. I still prefer BF2 graphics. Just my opinion.

 

BF2 All the Way. The Iron Gator and Gulf on Oman are my favorite maps. Somewhere, someone made a version of The Iron Gator that was at night and had the sf stuff useable. Wish i could find it again

 

I have 4 gigs of ram and would vote for BF2 over BF2142 any day. I tried BF2142 several times. Don't get me wrong it's loads of fun, I just prefer BF2. I miss air combat in 2142 and maybe it's because I've gotten used to BF2.

 

...besides the fact that BF2 has been out longer, costs less than BF2142 now, and more people are used to BF2, as well. Although in general it seems like the BF2 folks are here to stay; I don't see the BF2142 community lasting as long.

 

BF2 Complete Collection DVD $40. You cant beat that. Comes with the original, Special Forces, two booster packs, and all the patches.

The BF2 community has so much more to come in the way of mods and such.

I'm sure the BF2142 community will die out before the BF2 community.

 

I hear what really killed BF2142 was the in-game advertising, which borders on spyware.

 

It is true that BF 2 has A LOT more mods, but, in my opinion, it's the other way around. The BF 2142 community will actually grow and expand more rather than the BF 2 community.

 

GET BOTH!!! You can get BF 2142 for 30 bucks off dell's website, and BF 2, is like 20 bucks at Best Buy. But my vote goes to 2142

 

Actually if I get BF2, I'm going to get the BF2 DVD Collection for $40. It has all the booster packs and BF2:SF.

 

I recommend BF2, but it is still buggy. I mean I played the beta of Quake Wars and it is less buggy than BF2! The thing is these are EA games and EA rarely give support of their games when it comes out... Actually if anyone is deciding between the 2, they should find another game.

 

My point is, even though BF 2 is great, it's going to die out WAY before Battlefield 2142 does. Why buy a game that has so many servers with 0 amount of people(don't get me wrong, there are still decent amount of servers with people in BF 2).

I just don't like BF 2. I have it myself, look up SASDropCommando on BF 2 stats.

It's just too slow for me.

I like the sci-fi features of bf2142 but bf2 is also good.....but i think i vote bf2142

 

See I think I'd like BF2 slightly more because of the "modern combat" approach, but if BF2142 is going to be alive longer, I don't want to waste my money on BF2.

 

2142, is deffinently going to last longer, mainly because its newer. Also, then endless amount of fun involved. And if you want a modern combat game... Download America's army, its free, and its online... did i forget to mention its modern... get it at americasarmy.com

And NBR has a clan... (i use that term loosly) that we all try and hook up and play together.
