Im going to be buying either Battlefield 2 or Battlefield 2142 pretty soon and they are both around 30 bucks. I was just wondering which one people think is better, both in terms of gameplay and online activity. Also, should I get the booster packs if i get Battlefield 2 or does no one play them?

    I own both.
I can't stand 2142. Its extremely beginner unfriendly and laggy. So's regular BF2, but I find it nicer.

Only way to be competitive is to get unlocks, only way to get unlocks is be competitive. Or, you can follow the really good people around and kill-steal off of them until you get unlocks. But the default equipments in both games is kinda bad.

I've played both demos, and been doing plenty of research on em as I wait to get my laptop that can actually play them so I can buy em. Here are the major differences.

    Battlefield 2:
+Newbie friendly, the upgrade system is basically just stepping up the guns.
-Jets are insanely overpowered in the right hands.

    Battlefield 2142:
+More customization ability in the upgrade system, once you get a few unlocks, you end up with more options even though it has fewer classes.
-In both games you're at a disadvantage without unlocks, but a little more in 2142, though it does have a system where you can get temporary unlocks that last one game without having to spend valuable unlock points.

Both games have similar gameplay styles and the same game engine, though 2142 is refined more and should give you slightly more bang for your buck on performance. The games are different enough that you can play both and they don't feel like the same games, so I highly reccomend getting both if you can afford it.

You'll want to get the expansions. Better weapons are always nice, and more maps and vehicles means more replayability. Plus you can probably get sweet bundle deals compared to buying the games when they were new and buying each expansion as they came out.

when i played the bf2142 demo, there was literally no one on the battlefield and everyone was just using the machines. I didn't want to play mechwarrior or w/e so I don't like it so far.

Battlefield 2 is more infantry-oriented. I suppose this might be much better when it comes to teamwork and whatnot.

Battlefield 2142 is more vehicle oriented. There are some amazing moments of teamwork, such as the times your entire squad is in a fully loaded APC or Goliath. You'll just rip through everyone that way.

Ultimately it's up to you. Battlefield 2 feels much more farmiliar, but there are a few crazy moments in BF2142 that will blow you away.

Battlefield 2142 is a lot better. BF 2 is too slow for me, not enough action. Worst part is, some maps that are huge, that require vehicles, some servers turn vehicles off, so it's ANNOYING to walk/run halfway across the map, and get killed instantly.
Greande spamming is also VERY CHEAP in BF 2, especially Strike at Karkand.

Battlefield 2142 has a smoother engine in my opinion, and the graphics are improved just a bit. And, you don't die as easily, since kits are merged, making things/getting jobs done are much more efficient and practical.
