okay, i finally decided to try my luck again with bf2 since everyone on here has told me it has to work. it did not work with my alienware laptop and now i am trying with my new hp. i have a 8600m gs card, vista premium, 2 gigs ram, t7500 core 2 duo...

with the alienware it just wouldn't load the server list....

with the hp i can't even get the game to start - it loads and does the adjusting of resolution for the game, then right when its supposed to start, it just goes back to windows desktop - and the program is no longer running.
yes i've go admin mode on and yes i've got xp sp2 compatibility mode on. what am i supposed to do? i was lucky enough to be able to return this game last time, but i dont think they'll let me do it this time. after reading all the posts and everything, i was sure, and so was most of this forum, that the game would run and so i bought it. can someone please help me get this game working so i know i didn't throw away my 30 bucks?? :( :( :(

    thanks :(

Have you downloaded and installed the latest patch? BF2 works fine on my desktop, which has a 7600GT and Vista Ultimate, but I installed the latest 1.41 (or something around that number) patch before I even bothered starting up the game.

omg, once again, it does not work. it does the same thing that it did before i patched it. it just starts the intro bf2 screen, then adjusts resolution for the game and then just goes right back to the desktop and closes the program...

i dont kno what else to do????

i patched the game, i have all updated drivers, i run in admin w. xp sp2 compatibility mode.. what is making this happen? everyone else with my setup has no problem playing.. this is my second laptop now (the first was the alienware) that will not play this game.... someoen please help!!

    :( :( :( :( :( :(

    no good :(

this just doesn't make sense - the alienware laptop just doesn't load the server list but at least i was able to play single player...

this laptop doesn't even start the game up! it just closes shortly after the bf2 startup thing comes up .. and then im back at my desktop..

is this just my luck or what - 2 laptops, 2 different configurations, neither can play this game and i can't figure out an explanation.

i can actually see the program opening in my task manager - run for the process of starting up the program when the bf2 startup screen start, then when the screen flickers over to the game i see the bf2 in the task manager close down and im back at desktop....

why???? does anyone out there play this game on a laptop or what - theres gotta be a solution to this (considering this is the second "gaming laptop" i have tried this game on and neither worked)

I was looking at other forums, and someone said that they completely uninstalled the game, uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers from LaptopVideo2Go.com, and then proceded to reinstall the game, then the patch and then ran the game.

I had the same problem with my laptop. I tried everything. I reinstalled it maybe five times, reinstalled different drivers multiple times, did everything it just wouldn't work with my laptop and vista. Did the exact thing yours did black screen then crash to desktop.

battlefield 2 does not support widescreen resolutions. you need to do some tweaks to the game to make it run i think. go to www.widescreengamingforum.com and find the solution under the game.

dunno wat to do. cant find a solution :( someone saying something about the refresh frame freq or whatever needs to be changed in teh video.con file in your profile - but there is no video.con file in there... then i tried right clicking on the shortcut and adding the resolution of my screen which was supposed to work but it didnt do anything once again. i was hoping it was this "widescreen issue" and it probably is because people are having the exact same thing happen to them. if anyone knows of somewhere with a solution to this to get it up and running i'd much appreciate it - thanks:confused2:

Try updating punkbuster. Also make sure that in your task manager there is a file called ~e5.0001. If this file does not run while running bf2 it won't work.

You could always buy a new disk. That just might fix your problem.

You said the serverlist wouldn't load. Did you try turning off your firewall/configuring it to work with BF2?

Have you tried updating your audio driver? Might be worth a try.

well, it has nothing to do with the alienware hardware, i can tell you that much.

this is a class A software problem.

its probably some driver or some software loaded onto your machine that is incompatible with the game for some reason.

if i were you, i would do a clean install of xp, and just install the basic driver components, and the newest released gpu driver.

then it will play no doubt.

No it doesn't support widescreen resolutions therefore it would just scale back to 1024 x 768 or applicable on your widescreen monitor.

as a last resort, you could do a clean installation of windows xp sp2. install the laptopvideo2go.com driver, i recommend 162.18

install the minimum amount of drivers necessary for you to insert the bf2 disk and install it. also get the drivers required for you to access the internet, and the drivers for your audio. get the latest intel chipset drivers for your motherboard (assuming you have an intel motherboard)

update punkbuster manually. get the latest updates for windows xp sp2. install the most recent bf2 patch.

    that WILL work.

I dont know if you read my post last time you posted about this problem.

Anyway first can you check what refresh rate your monitor is running at?

is it 60 hz or 59 hz ?

if its 59 hz and there is an option to change it to 60 hz then please do so and then try to run the game.

if your stuck with 59 hz this is how to fix it

    go to this folder

    C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

open up the file named video.con with notepad

    change this line

    VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz

    to

    VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@59Hz

if your monitor doesnt support 800x600 resolution then change the resolution to one your monitor does support (a non wide screen one, maybe 1024 x 768)

save the file and try again

and if your refresh rate is 60hz then just change the res to a non widescreen one supported by your monitor
