I'm basically looking for some tips on getting Battlefield 2142 to run more smoothly. Sure I get the pauses in the first 10 seconds of a match, but those end. Then it just gets jumpy, it feels like lag except I know it's not... I'm pretty sure it's accessing my harddrive which on my system is not a fast one.
System Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 1.88ghz
ATI X1400 (128 Shared 128 Dedicated)
1GB Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium
Yeah I only have 1GB, I'm curious if upgrading to 2 will solve this problem completely? Also what about using ReadyBoost? Will any kind of flash drive do? My performance didn't get any better using my psp which has a 1gb memory stick in it.
Again it's not my FPS, this thing is smooth on pretty much any settings, it's just jumpy. Even with settings on low it still gets jumpy. So I'm leaning towards upgrading ram, so are there any good places that sell dependable ram? thanks in advance

Well, I have a PC with the same specs as you, I'm running the game at 800x600 with most of the stuff on low-medium (everything on medium except texture filter, lighting, shadow, dynamic lighting, and post processing off). I get around 50-60FPS, but it does dip pretty low sometimes, almost randomly. A lot of people, even the tweak guides for BF2142, says that more RAM helps stabilize your FPS, which could be the problem why you (and me) are having lag issues.

Are you on vista or xp?

Im really glad i found this post.
My computer does this too with 2142. I get the same FPS i got in XP, and everything is smooth when i stand still, but as soon as i start moving my mouse around to look at things, everything gets choppy. For me its not really really bad choppy, but its enough to bug the crap out of you and make u dizzy.
I thought it was prolly jsut my laptop, considering i havent heard of any problems with anyone else, but it makes me feel better knowing others are suffering too
It must just be some problem with the graphics drivers. My comp specs are in my sig, and ull notice that my 2gigs of DDR2 RAM arent helping this problem. I tried it in single player as well to see if it were a connection issue, and sure enough it happened there also.
Guess us 2142 players with Vista are gonna suffer for a little while. -
Make sure V-Sync is off and that the game is in Windows XP compatibility mode?

I have XP Home at the moment, I haven't decided to upgrade to Vista Business. I noticed that the game rubberbands sometimes when I'm running around even though my ping is like around 30.

Something that could help out a lot is turning off the in game AA and texture filtering, then using a different program to control that if you still want your game to use AA and texture filtering. I think you can do that with ATI tray tools, I have an nvidia card so I don't know for sure.

well i think dougq and my problems are related at least. I doesnt matter what graphic settings I have Battlefield 2142 on, as soon as I move my mouse to look around, things get choppy. Id say its more than likely the nvidia drivers considering they are still trying to get out of the hole they've dug themselves into, but I figured the newest 100.xx drivers from laptopvideo2go wold be vista gaming friendly, considering nvidia spent months perfecting it.
