I've played battlefield 2 and own it but never seemed to get hooked on it like i did with the call of duty series or rainbow six vegas. I played it on and off for about 2 months and recently uninstalled it. Gameplay for bf2 seemed too much geared towards the use of vehicles and less close quartered combat skills like cod2, CSS or rb6 had (which is what i prefer).

Wondering what your thoughts are on bf 2142. Best Buy has it for $20 now so sometimes that makes buying decisions easier. Not sure if many are online for this game either? Thoughts?

Do you have to buy it on best buy?

I had Battlefield 2142, the disc broke(don't ask).

I'm waiting for the Deluxe Edition to come out. It's $30. Comes with the expansion pack Northern Strike.

I find this game very fun. If you play Camp Gibraltar, it is very intense. Especially on 32, 48, and 64 player servers.

    Links where to get 2142:

If you didn't like bf2 then you probably wont like 2142, its just pretty much the same but set in the future.

You can still download the BF2142 demo; should at least give you some sense of how much you'll enjoy it.

The Battlefield 2142 Demo is a great way, however, it doesn't show all the potential features, the unlocks and other maps make it very fun. :D

I bought it for $19.99 CAN at EB Games. So far Im completely satisfied in what I got for a mere 20 bucks. I could have bought CounterStrike: Source or Halo: Combat Evolved for the same price, but I think that BF 2142 with all of its unlocks and ranking system was the best of the three. I need to get a better rig to play this game though; my laptop with an integrated ati xpress x1100 just isnt built to play a game like this. I can only play the small maps without much lag - most titan maps are too laggy for me to play. Anways, I agree with you on one point: the vehicles in the game spoil some of the fun. I mostly play maps that only spawn FAVs or 1 Battlewalker at a time to keep gameplay focus on infantry combat. You can even play with bots offline in singleplay conquest mode which is pretty fun as well; just make sure you increase the AI difficulty because at the default of 50, enemies are pretty stupid to say the least. I usually play at 60-75 for a more challenging experience.
As for the ranks, unlocks etc. they add the the overall multiplayer experience. The thing I dislike is that you can only unlock items/weapons/upgrades in multiplayer ranked servers. This means you cant use the upgrades in singleplayer mode untill you unlocked them all by ranking online.
At the moment, Im a lancer corporal silver and have unlocked 1 of the upgrade trees for the assault class; I only found out later that the other tree was more useful, so now I have to work on unlocking that. Ive also earned quite a few awards after just a few days - but Im sure your familiar with this system if you have played BF2.
This game would be so much better if I had a decent computer to play it on; oh well, I guess playing at the default settings (1024x768) isnt so bad.
If you have a reasonably good computer, just download and try out the demo; I think that it only has 1 map (conquest/titan mode) though and doesnt include ranks or unlocks.

I bet you get killed very often playing on that GPU ;)

Anyways, the game still shows $30 on BB for me. Can someone link the $20 page?

BF2142 sucks, its a poorly made sequel to BF2 (which is a good game, it was great until they nerfed all things good in BF2 in later patches). If you want to know what BF2142 is its basically BF2 re-skinned and remapped not to mention the maps are depressing as hell.

If you see the $30 version, that is the deluxe edition which includes the NS booster pack. Im not sure if BB even sells the original anymore?
About my gpu... yes, I die almost as much as I kill; I currently have a 1.1 kd which isnt all that bad considering what Im using compared to most other people. At around 14 kills a game (0.7/min) and 1.3 points a minute, Id say that I can play the urban conquest maps decently. It really lags when those orbitals and emps strikes start to fall though. I bookmarked several servers which cap at 24 players - which seems to be the limit to what my computer can take.
