When I first installed BF2142 on my system before formatting is was very buggy, and I thought this game needs atleast 2GB RAM even at low medium settings but after a manual format, the game runs like a charm, extremely smooth in the following settings:
Resolution 800x600@60Hz
Terrain = Medium
Effects = High
Geometry = Medium
Texture = Medium
Lighting = High
Dynamic Shadows = Off
Dynamic Light = High
Anti-Aliasing = Off
Texture Filtering = Medium
View Distance Scale = 75%
Enhanced Lighting Effect = ON
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with following specs:
Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz
1GB RAM (512MBx2) Dual Channel
ATI X1400 256MB
80GB 5400RPM HDD

Looking good for an X1400, have you considered OCing your GPU?
-
andrew.brandon Notebook Evangelist
those look amazing
-
wow...if an x1400 can do THAT then i wonder how good this will look on a x1800!!!! overclocked too!!!

The demo does seem a bit buggy at the moment though; moving around(walking and running) and the controls for the walkers could be improved. Otherwise, the game's looking great. All I need now is a mouse. Yes that's right, I've been playing with my touchpad and getting pwned. It's very frustrating. Anyways I'm gettign a cheap mouse very soon -

BF2142 isnt such a great game at all.
BF2 is much more stable and better in overall gameplay and feel.
BF2142 feels like another generic sci-fi shooter. -
-
Well I know I loved the BF2 demo, even though it, like this demo, had issues!
As USA patriot said, BF2142 is just a boring, unoriginal and cliched shooter....not actually a terrible game, but just a bit...yawn for me. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
It may be a demo, but it has surely turned me off about the whole BF2142 thing.
The demo made me make my mind up, im not buying it.
Plus. id rather keep playing BF2 which I still like and is fun to play. BF2142, is just meh. -
I personally love the titan mode, and the new vehicles, weapons, and even the fact that what were helecopters in BF2 now have thrusters, brings the game to a whole new level imo. I mean we cant use the customizations yet, but those will be amazing. Active camo, its just stuff you could never do in BF2. But yeah I tried the demo out on my 1210. Here are the settings I used.
Specs in sig, 7400 is about even with X1400.
1024x768 (1280x800 not supported in demo, or else I would have used it)
Terrain-medium
Effects-medium
Geometry-medium
Textures-high
lighiting-medium
Dynamic Shadows-off
Dynamic Light-high
AA-none
Texture Filtering-high
View distance-100%
Enhanced Lighiting Effects-off
I was averaging around 40 fps according to fraps. Im not going to change the settings because when I play it @ 1280x800 on the finished game it should be around 35 or so, which is still good. Looked great, played good, other then the bugs. Choked up when I break out of a launch pod, and if theres a big explosion nearby, but all and all it runs good. -
Hurray!!! I got the full game, and I added a couple of more screenshots from the full game. Also I have changed the settings to the following:
Resolution 800x600@60Hz
Terrain = Medium
Effects = High
Geometry = High
Texture = Medium
Lighting = High
Dynamic Shadows = Off
Dynamic Light = High
Anti-Aliasing = Off
Texture Filtering = High
View Distance Scale = 100%
Enhanced Lighting Effect = ON
(The Terrain and Texture can go at high settings in the X1400 but u need more than 1GB RAM)
-
What kind of FPS are you getting with those settings mbushnaq00? And how do you have the full game, its not shipping untill the 17th?
-
It is available via EA Downloader.
And those screenshots don't look too bad...except the very last one on the bridge, which looks really untextured and flat, but other then that looks decent -
Yeah if I were you mbushnaq00 I would turn the lighiting, geometry, and effects down to medium, then crank up the resolution. That will make everything look alot better, since 800x600 is very very low. Then turn textures up, thats what my setting are and it looks alot better then your does.
-
-
I think the reason those screenshots look a little low quality is the fact they look like low quality JPEG.

Thanks for posting the screenshots. I am tempted to try the game but was never a fan of BF2. The pictures remind me of a bit of UT2004 and Quake 4. -
Yeah, I never got into BF2 either. I just couldn't shake the feeling I got whilst playing it "Counter-Strike with tanks."
-
So I decided to do some overclocking to see what I could get out of my 7400. I got it to a core freq of 532MHz, and mem frew to 1.06GHz, stable. I turned the terrain textures up to high from medium, same with geomety, and turned Enhanced Lighiting Effects on. I believe thats either bloom or HDR, does anyone know? But yeah the game played good, no artifacts, and I was getting 35-40 FPS. Should be the same once im able to turn it up to 1280x800, then it will look really good when its actually in a widescreen aspect, and not streched.
Pictures.
I thought these door and wall textures looked pretty good.
Effects only on medium, as you can see FPS droped to mid 20's during explosion, but still looks pretty cool. I just blew up another walker when a tank hits me from behind, sneaky...
Very nice looking clouds, and you can see the lighiting effects on the gun, looks pretty cool.

pfft, the demo runs horrid on high settings on my system.
I have an X1600 and 2gigs of RAM. -

hmm, well I turned off AA and maxed out everything. It runs much better.
Im kinda mad it doesnt run well with only 2xAA. But oh well. -
[EDIT] Well since this is the only active 2142 thread right now I thought id report it here. I just checked the offical site for some new news, since its shipping today I wanted to see what they had to say. So I clicked on the new bulletin and it popped up a download for the first game patch. It said that they wanted to be very proactive on this game, so they're releasing patch 1.01 at release. It adresses performance and stability issues, so definitly get it asap. -
mbushnaq00 and sheff159,
I gotta say, I really appreciate you guys taking the time to upload your screenshots and results with BF2142 on the forum. Though I've been an ungrateful lurker for most of my time here, I've noticed few people actually take their time to upload screenies, post specs and FPS and rather just say ambigous lines like "oh [insert game] runs fine".
BF2142 is a new game and people are *really* curious to know of a laptop with your specs can run it. People gauge their laptop purchases on threads like this one. Hell, if I didn't already have my laptop pretty much ordered, I'd be pounding the thread with questions (wait...). I think from what I've seen here, BF2142 will run very much like your guys' setup on my laptop. And that makes me smile.
A short video wold be awesome... (but I totally didn't say that). A question though, how are loading times? Are they still insanely long? What has been the average thus far for the map/server loading screen?
Thanks (and all the best with your BF2142 gaming). -
Lucky you if your new laptop will be able to display and play the game at those settings. See "BATTLEFIELD 2142 on a Budget" to see my screenshots on my ATi X1100 IGP graphics card.
Loading times are actually very short for a game like this. Map loading times usually take 30sec -1min for me (unless you previously changed a video setting). Server updating/refreshing is also very fast (time varies according to numer of available servers).
Looking for a video? EA's official site has some good ones, including the one that's included on the demo (the titan tutorial).
This movies is my favourtie of the bunch: ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/movies/Battlefield/2142/BF2142pcVIDeu800x450.mov
Enjoy -
My FPS's are in the top right corner of all my screen shots if your wondering what im getting. As for the loading times, it depends on your processor. When I played BF2 I was doing it on a P4 1.6GHz for most of the time, before I upgraded to a 2.4GHz, which wasnt much different. So yeah then the load times were long. Now that I have a 2.16 Core Duo they are very fast, like no more then 10-15 seconds. Optimizing shaders still takes a minute or so though.
-
Wow, that's impressive you two.
I guess I haven't really optimized my home PC, but it's has an AMD X2 4400+, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB SATA 7200 RPM Seagate HDD and a Geforce 7800 and it still takes like 30 seconds to a minute to load (that and I seem to be the first person to load on any given Counter-Strike: Source map). And that's when it's not optimizing shaders. Heck, when it does that, it would take 2 min+ easily.
And I thought that, wow, if it takes this long for my home PC to run it, I don't want to imagine how long the lower specs on my coming laptop would take to load. I suppose, I just need to defrag my current PC though, looking your guys' loading times. -
I hear that .... Jesus i have
3700+
1gig Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5
10k Raptor
6800 gt < going buh bye in november
and I must say battlefield 2 runs alot better and so does Source
Its playable, but i have on med setts with AA 2x and 1024x768
Makes me cry that a 1500 computer ain't worth crap for gaming a year and a half down the road. -
Have just been playing 2142 with my M1210 hooked up to a 20.1 widescreen LCD. No problems, but i am using the lowest settings. What can you use to overclock the video card? Or the rest of the system for that matter. I thought they had this clock locked. Thanks
My System:
M1210
2.16ghz Duo core
4GB single channel ram
100GB 7200 rpm
256mb Geforce Go 7400 -

Do you guys think this will run on an Nvidia GO Geforce 7200 with 32mb of dedicated memory and 96mb intergrated. I can play BF2 at medum settings, the terrian at high, and af 4x.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
if you can run BF2 it will run this game fine.
Dice just released essentially a mod to BF2, every engine it uses is the same. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
Well, I wouldn't say Battlefield 2142 is a MOD, as it is a really impressive improvement, a bit more than the BF1942 to Vietnam transition. Also, I was playing this on a mate's Core 2 Duo, 7900GTX desktop system. Wow, it sure looks AWESOME compared to any of our systems (no offense). Constant 60fps, Highest Detail, AA + AF = WOW!!!
-
The game is not even that pretty. The landscapes and terrain are quite good but overall, it's just average looking. -
lappy486portable Notebook Evangelist
UMM.. I think I might be able to push medium settings with Lighting at Low and no Dynamic lighting or shadows, at 1024x768.
-
metalneverdies Notebook Evangelist
i run every thing maxed and normally listen to music witht he pc in my sig
-
I run it maxed out when it actualy runs for me....
-
My friend gave his battlefield 2 to me for free.
I can run everything in high too. 7400 Go not bad.
Medic is fun. -
can an x600 run it at med setting?
-
-
lappy486portable Notebook Evangelist
Well, I downloaded the demo [finally], and I can run it at 1024x768, no Dynamic Lights or Shadows, Terrain, Geometry, at Medium, Medium filtering, and it appears to run quite smooth. The only things that are at low are Lights, Dynamic Lights, and No Dynamic Shadows. My view scale is at 75%. I would say I get around 30- 35 FPS.
-
Anyone playing this on a go7400+ 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo+ 2GB 667mhz ram???
I hope at least 30FPS on high.
Any chance this game will support dual cores like Battlefield 2? A patch maybe?
