hey, i broke my old laptop recently and im after a new one. having been thrashin battlefield 2142 for the last 3 weeks i was wondering if anyone could tell me if this: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=22972340267&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=117785
would run it. i know its hardly a top of the range laptop, but i get paid peanuts where i work so splashing out £1200 on a laptop aint gonna happen, not with xmas and car insurence all next month! im also aware that ill be running all the settings at low/med.
its got a 1150 radeon express graphics card and a sempron 3400+ 512ram. id upgrade the ram to 1gig. this is all basicly so i can get a couple of hours of battlefield a day in at work![]()
any help or pointers would br great.
cheers

That machine would struggle with BF 2142. A Sempron with the X1150 Radeon simply wont cut it.

Welcome to NBR!
That's a nice notebook for a good price. The processor is fine but the bottleneck (as you stated) is the RAM. If you are a frequent gamer and like to play BF2142 a lot, then I really suggest you to get another 1 GB stick instead of 512 MB stick. 1.5 GB will make this game run much smoother then 1 GB.
The 1150 radeon will run this game. Maybe not at the highest settings, but you can count on 800*600 with medium settings or 1024*768 (native resolution) and low settings. I think you might want to check this thread.
Hope I helped you.
Charlie
Edit: sorry for the wrong info, the 1150 will not be able to run at 1024*768. But 800*600 will run for sure. But for that you will need 1.5 GB.
Something I recommend: format the notebook after you have received it. Install all the newest drivers including Catalyst 6.10. Defrag your notebook several times. After that I am sure you will be able to run the game. -
thanks for the advice. i had kinda assumed all of what u have just said so thats great. its just backed up my thoughts. gonna place the order now and if it dont work ill either stick it on ebay or come after you
cheers mate

Hehe if you can find me... ooh oops I have my adress written under my name, oops!
I hope the advice I gave you is accurate. But you wont regret getting a 1 GB stick.
Good luck,
Charlie
Edit: a clean format can surely help. HP has a lot of bloatware installed on it that uses memory. Setting your page file higher can also increase your gaming performance.
Edit 2: and don't forget to defrag! It really increases the fps and prevents stuttering. Especially games like Battlefield and Oblivion hate fragmentated harddisks! -
thanks for the advice boss. just got it going now. i see what u mean about bloat software. tons of **** i dont need. gonna create the back up dvd's incase stuff goes wrong, but when there done a full format will be done. hopefully it will run the game. fingers crossed
thanks again mate

Heh, never though anyone woudl reference my post
Anyway, sempron should run it fine (as dual core doesn't really effect gameplay IMO). You also have the 'better' IGP X1150; I've only got the X1100, so it should be fine at low settings.
By the way, if you're looking for a poor man's Battlefield game, consider War Rock; its free and fun.
Cheers
