Circuit City has a 10$ PC game deal going on and im thinking about picking up Battlefield 2142 and IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946

Im really into multiplayer FPSes is Battlefield 2142 fun? I haven't played Battlefield 2 yet, how are the two in comparison?

Do a lot of people play BF 2142? In other words, how big is the multiplayer community ?

And what about the Sturmovik game? I've never heard of it, but I've been wanting to play an Air Plane game for awhile now.

Quake Wars seems alright, I'm not sure if Quake Wars uses it, but for some reason, any HL2 Engine based game crashes on my computer..i think its vista, but who knows.

I have Unreal Tournament 3 for my mass killing needs, but i'm craving something more strategic and stuff

BF2142 is fun to play, and at $10, I'd recommend buying it. I haven't played for a couple of months, but when I played last, there were still lots and lots of people playing it. I'm assuming that there still are.

If you are looking for something a bit slower paced and more realistic, pick up BF2 for $10 and download Project Reality. It's a free mod that turns BF2 into a completely different game, with more gameplay changes than anything. Emphasis is placed on tactics, coordination, and communication. Suppression actually works, armor rolls together to survive, and you can even light up targets with a laser designator for one of your team's pilots to hit with a laser guided bomb. There's no AI - it's all actual people and it's the best multiplayer game I've ever seen. The community is big enough to keep plenty of servers up and small enough to keep out the idiots (for the most part).

at very odd hours there are probably 150 running servers, during prime hours over 250. i enjoy playing it even though punkbuster gets very annoying. the array of weapons, vehicles, and maps keeps you from monotonous game play. just my opinion

Its a great game. I've put in over 500 hours in BF2142. It's a real blast.

ET:QW runs on ID Tech 5 (4.5 actually, 4 running megetextures). I've got Vista and it's seemless. At any given time there are about 300 ranked servers responding, with 100 or so ranked/unranked at healthy population levels. It's NOT slow, and definitely NOT realistic, but it's fun and very deep from a gameplay standpoint.

Ok, enough pimping. To answer your question, yes. Buy BF 2142. I mean WTH it's only $10!

As a veteran in both BF2 and BF2142 I can definitive recommend BF2142, and at that price, no problem.
The game is at it's best when it comes to teamplay. Nothing is more rewarding when u join a good focused squad with a good squadleader.
    The multiplayer community is strong.
