great news!! do you guys think it will be modern warfare again?

I've mixed feelings about Battlefield 3. I'm really excited to play it, but there are a ton of problems with BF2 that have yet to still be ironed out. It will be interesting to see how EA/DICE plans to tweak BF3 to avoid the early (and some on-going) pitfalls that still plague the franchise.

With Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising to be released soon and ArmA II (Armed Assault II) already released, it looks like EA/DICE has some competition.
Personally I believe this is the main reason why DICE has delayed their Battlefield 3 release for so long. At this point EA/DICE mainly has Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising to compete with, since it looks evident that OFP 2’s gameplay is to be more along the lines of Battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 4 within a bigger battlefield, while ArmA II being more advanced in terms of engine and graphics attracts less players as a military simulation game.
At any rate you can’t beat ArmA II when it comes to a war game:

Woohooo!
Battlefield 2 is fantastic and still played by thousands all over the world
Lets hope BF3 takes some of bad companies destructable trends. -

Arma II and OFP 2 are more like war simulations, while BF3 is certain to be on the more arcade side of things like BF2.
No doubt BF3 will be a great game, they've learned a lot from BF2142 in terms of how to get people to work together and balance things out and also how to streamline a game with patches after release like BF2 (Which still has one final patch under development ATM).
I'd expect a release in June 2010, possibly on the five year anniversary of BF2's release so this is not coming out any time soon, it will probably be months before we even get any screenshots or anything. -
Cool! Will be looking forward to this one (hope it's modern warfare), but I'm still more anxious to play Opflash 2 (Operation Flashpoint 2 : Dragon Rising
).

Those videos were cool and all, but not once did I see actual infantry combat on the ground, nor did I see many other infantry men.

bf3 wont be out till like late 2010 or 2011. they still want to sell bad company 2 which is supposed to come out sometime in 2010. so arma 2 and of2 will be really old by then so its not they won't have to compete against it. also bf2 was insanely popular. they don't have to worry about competition.
and a lot of the major bugs like the hitboxes in bf2 was pretty much fixed in 1.5, which is still in beta. it was supposed to come out last christmas. and knowing dice, bf3 will probably be delayed even more. -

I'd definitely expect BF3 will be released in Q2-Q3 2010, I don't think it will come out later than that. BC2 in my opinion is mainly a console game which EA is porting over to the PC to try and make some money off of it, but definitely not a AAA PC title. BF3 will likely be PC only.
A lot of people want BF3, there are over 12,800 people playing right now on a Thursday mid-morning alone! That number usually swells to over 16,000+ at night and on the weekends! BF2 is still immensely popular nearly 4 years after it's release and will continue to be until BF3 is released. EA is still raking in money from BF2 server rentals alone. -
If Battlefield 3 is consolized, I won't touch it. If it's PC only then definitely. I can see Bad Company 2 coming out on consoles and BF3 on PC around the same timeframe.

Looking forward to it i guess. But its going to be a beast to run. BF2 was one of the first games to require 128mb graphics memory and that was back in 2005. I barely could run vietnam well back then.

Battlefield 3 should ONLY be for PC. No question about that. I can't wait for this!
By the way, what do you mean by 'AAA PC'? -

Yea but BF@ netcode and hitboxes are aweful. It needs to be a notch more gamey to me. BF2 netcode WAS REALLY BAD I am glad that it is coming out but BF2 was even slow on the FPS with my 8800gt card.

Hopefully patch 1.5 will fix the hitboxes for good. Otherwise everything else with BF2 is fine as is, but I would definitely like to see a few improvements in BF3.
In order of most importance IMO:
1. Better autobalancing to prevent one team from rolling the other team round after round.
2. Better netcode.
3. Bigger maps.
4. More players.
5. Better balanced and teamwork provoking gameplay.
6. Better GFX and maybe destructible environments.
Battlefield 3 Confirmed!!!
