Activision will wait until a couple months before the release and then go crazy with advertisement. EA would have probably spent a good portion of their advert budget by then...
-
They should spend more on development IMO...
100 000 000 / 2 = 50 000 000 to development and 50 000 000 to advertising...
That would be much more fair... -

12 mins of awesome, yeah it's mostly stuff we've already seen but this time it's all pieced together properly

Those Jerks! I don't want to wait until Fall 2011

Exploding cars everywhere. Gasoline doesn't explode unless it's pressurized. I guess according to DICE, parked cars are always filled with propane tanks, rofl.

So they got 1 million "likes" then.
-
Nope. But now they're offering producer's commentary if they get 1m likes.
Also, Fileplanet has a FHD version of the video for d/l at 1.8GB FilePlanet: Battlefield 3 'Fault Line' Complete 12 Minute HD Gameplay Footage -
That city level with all of the tall buildings looks to be completely awesome
If they make that a multiplayer map with all of the buildings being accessible on the inside, that would be epic. -
Thanks! +1
But Quicktime .mov file? yeck. -
some sites are saying the sys req to run this game at maxed out settings will be insane i think min gtx 560 sli so as far as running it in single 485m will not be worth it
-
I can imagine that when Battlefield 3 comes out, all current notebooks with single GPU's will be incapable of running this game on max. Perhaps with the new M18x that's coming out that has 6970m SLI, it might be able to eek out 30fps. Maybe.
Unless DICE somehow manages to optimize Battlefield 3 insanely well, to a point where it's not optimizable anymore. But I doubt it, considering what a crappy job they did optimizing Bad Company 2 for PCs. -
Not my preference either, but they seem to be the only one of the major game sites that are offering it.
-
How about we all agree that since the game's not out yet, nobody knows how it's going to run, and nobody will know until it's out? Any speculation as to the game's performance without any actual proof is just that: speculation.
-
the game will be super awesome i have a feeling
-
Running the game Max will have no impact on the gameplay or how well you play the game. Why are some laptop gamers are obsessed about running the latest DX11 games at Max? Should be excited about BF3 in hoping it brings some exciting gameplay, not whether the smoke is at maximum quality or not. Haven't you all been paying attention to how video settings work in the last few years? Max settings have minimal improvements on visuals yet maximum impact on performance and the differences between low and max are so minute that it's not even worth mentioning sometimes. Especially when you will be paying attention to who is shooting you and where your squad mates are. Not whether the pebble on the ground looks extra realistic or not.
-
Thanks! Good thing the server is fast, only a 4 minute download.
-
I would be happy to be able to play BF3 with no AA and a mixture of high and medium settings at DX10. Some people want max settings because it increases the realism and suspension of disbelief, the others are just graphic obsessed.
-
Geez guys! It won't be like Crysis! It is certain that it WON'T be heavier than Metro 2033, so if you can max M2033, you will be able to almost max BF3.

INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
Can't wait. Updating the Desktop when this game comes out. But it looks like its more CoD-ish as opposed to good ol team play of BF2
-
We only saw Single player gameplay, so you will see the good ol team play of BF2 in multiplayer. They show the single player to blow us some nice graphic perf. Multiplayer gameplay should come out on E3 in June.
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
That's true. I was just assuming since its more of urban warfare setting. But like you said we've only seen single player and even that has been limited.
Sucks I wont be able to view E3 cast.
-
I am 110% sure they will broadcast it live like last year. IDC, I will be up, even if it's 3AM, to watch BF3 live lol.
-
INEEDMONEY Homicidal Teddy Bear
I'm sure they will, i'll just be in a location where I wont be able to see it lol. *sigh* -
That YT trailer is the best gameplay trailer I've ever seen for an FPS....wow...

Make sure you watch the Full HD version: jaw dropping!

For games like BF3 they really need to make these games like campaign online. Have the same level designs used in SP except instead of fighting AI, one team plays the bad guys. That would make the game more interesting, since I know players can snipe way better than that scripted AI sniper in the video. This wouldn't replace the SP, but you could have it so that each level could be replayed in this co-op multi-player mode.
How would I do it? Just like campaign, the protagonist team will progress through the level and make checkpoints. At that point, the game is locked in, can't go back. The Antagonist team cannot push the team back once the protagonists reach the checkpoint. The Antagonists job is to prevent the protagonists from progressing. To make it interesting there will be a timer. The protagonists have to make that checkpoint within a certain time.
So yes the match could end in 5 minutes if the team doesn't make the checkpoint or it could be 30 minutes if they do make it. Have each level be preceded by a story background or cut scene to set the tone and the mission.
I don't really see why FPS games haven't done this yet. This I think would be the best mix. This would be pure squad play, pure teamplay. Timer, gotta work together. This is not death match and kill random anyone like a headless chicken. It combines the fun of SP with campaign targeted missions, but with co-op style single player mission, but instead of fighting AI, you fight other players in MP style.
For BF3 you could have this mode + the traditional MP mode. Of course in a the above scenario you would be limited. Say 6 on 6, and each team only gets ONE sniper, that's it. It would somwhat similar to Rush... except Rush is just one giant map and it gets boring just watching the ticket counter go down. And setting the bombs to blow up gets really boring and it's pointless. And even in rush, most players don't play squad, they just go solo. You could make it interesting where at a certain point of the level, after a checkpoint, antagonists get 2 two tanks only, makes it tough for protagonists, but once the tanks are blown, they don't respawn. Gives it that same SP rush feeling. Protagonists maybe get on helicopter, once it's shot down, you gotta run on foot to the checkpoint or whatever the end mission objective is. Unlike SP, you can still have large area and give players choices which way they want to progress. But the timer would force them to move in one direction. You could also set it, so people play as a team, you can't just have one player go commando and reach checkpoint, you have to reach the checkpoint as squad.
I like MP because the opponents are just as smart and as good if not better than you. And it's not just some difficulty setting so you die in one hit if you get shot in the foot idiocy. But this would combine the fun of co-op. Co-op usually lacking because you are combatting dumb AI. And I also prefer co-op, SP over MP because MP is almost always boring, and mindless and I ask myself, what's the point of this? In this scenario your k/d would mean nothing. You only get points as a squad for mission objectives and wins.
Points: In one checkpoint part of the match, there is 2,400 points available for everyone, both Protagonist/Antagonist. The faster protagonists reach checkpoint, more of the points they get. The longer protagonists get to checkpoint, more points antagonists get and less for protagonists. It's just an idea. but I think it could combine the fun of SP/Co-Op with MP. -

I just saw the first BF3 commercial on Spike! It was over 30-seconds long for sure. Man, EA is really spending money on marketing BF3 early on. They really do have their sights set on COD.
-
Was it good? I bet it was
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
It was ok. It just showed clips from the same trailer we've been seeing and at the end it shows two VERY short clips of tank combat in a desert and airplane combat in cloudy skies.
It said everything was actual game footage, it did look really good. -
And here we thought we were looking at Pre-Alpha footage.... is it still Pre-Alpha if it's showing on TV?
-
Unreal Tournament had this mode. At least the original, haven't played the newer ones.
-
After watching the new 12 minute gameplay video, im super stoked for this game. All the guns look like the handle well, and they actual look like real weapons, there was something off in BFBC series, they looked cartoony almost. Regardless, theres tons of spread fire adding to a more realistic bullet pack, more strategy in how you shoot your guns will be important, no more spraying hopefully, or less anyways.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well, it was the same footage they've been calling pre-alpha. Although I'm willing to bet the game is probably nearing internal BETA status already.
My thoughts on the 12-minute gameplay video:
I thought it looked pretty good overall. For the most part though, it seems like infantry only infantry combat was shown. The combat was rather similar to other modern war shooters. Shoot, reload and move constantly to avoid dieing. The guy playing really wasn't taking cover and was just shooting poorly hidden enemy soldiers who were running in the open under fire. He was also rather exposed most of the time and did not die at all. SO, to me the infantry combat at least, doesn't look amazing besides the awesome graphics and guns gameplay wise. -
Is there any different way to play modern shooters (save 3rd person/tactical ala tom clancy games)
The real variety will be the multiplayer, with the different roles, vehicles, etc - prompt a lot of diversity in playing styles and tactics! -

I KNEW I had seen a show on TV with a similar situation where soldiers are pinned on a roof by a sniper and they counter with an AT4! DICE copied!

Its a show!
lol...nice copyLast edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
They have even copied the signs... it say "Hotel" in Arabic just like the game lol.....

I'll say this :
If you want an FPS boost in BF3, the first thing you want to OC is your Memory clocks.
As BF3 uses deferred shading/rebdering/lighting etc, it LOVES your VRAM. So, more bandwidth and the higher the mem clocks you have, the higher the FPS.
Ofcourse OC'ing the core also helps, but not as much as a memory OC. -
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
^^You might want to repost that after the game releases so that it is more helpful.
-
I think we can all agree that since the game isn't out yet and nobody's played it, nobody knows for sure what will do what, and we won't know until we have the game.
-
I'm basing that statement on research and on Metro 2033. I did a slight OC, and I got a nice increase.
Deferred Rendering <3 VRAM. -
Metro 2033 has nothing to do with Frostbite 2, so you can't really assume they'll work the same.
-
Yes, but I can presume that the performance will be somewhat the same
Rendering shaders, lights, etc, is what uses more GPU horsepower. Textures are not that power hungry as shaders. Therefore, when 2 games use the same rendering techniques, we can presume more or less the performance. -

Back to Karkand DLC map details released: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/05/11/Back-to-Karkand.aspx

So awesome. All I can say is that this game better not disappoint. I loved BF 1942, BF2 was the best, BFBC2 is ok, just not what I'd like from a Battlefield series game. BF3 better be in the tradition of BF2, PLEASE!
Releasing classic maps like Karkand is awesome though. Want Wake Island for certain. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Man o Man. I've never put more hours into any other game than BF2. I don't really play it anymore but when I did it was the best FPS multiplayer experience I ever had.
BF3, is gonna be killer. -
^^^^^^QFT^^^^^^
I must agree 110% there
